Story
LOOKING FOR MY ANGEL:  Approx. 10 years / Approx. 20 lbs. Hi, my name’s Rusty!  I lost my life-long home when my previous owner experienced medical issues & needed to go to assisted living.  I was sad about that, but fortunately, Mostly Mutts has been able to take me in & I’m in a great foster home while I wait to find my new family that is looking for a constant, sweet companion. I was adopted for a few weeks, but came back to Mostly Mutts as the home was not a good fit.  • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I like the dogs I have met in my previous home, & I like the older calm chihuahua in my foster home – sharing our people & walking nicely with her on our daily walks, so if you have a nice dog at home, let’s meet! / I lived with five cats in my previous home. / I liked the calm children I met in my previous home, but I don’t remember their ages. Since I have been known to nip if startled or accidentally hurt, it’s best the children in my new home be older calm kids (age 15+), & - of course, let’s meet!    • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I’m a sweet boy who, though initially nervous in new environments, adjusts nicely in a very calm environment which is what I’m looking for in my home.  I often find a lap to jump in where I’m super happy as I’m a true lap dog!  I’ll even settle in & lean back, as if asking you to hold me like a baby – so loving!  I’m used to having my person with me all the time, so a stay-at-home family member is a must for me.  A true ‘Velcro dog’, I just want to be involved in whatever you are doing! You want to watch TV? Great, I’ll sit with you on the couch. You need to work at a desk? I’ll be in the dog bed on the floor in your office.  You cooking? I’ll help! You get the idea? I’m a great constant companion.  I have been a bit protective of my home, barking at strangers & sometimes nipping at the back of their leg when they turn away.  My foster is working on this with me now & I don’t do it in public, just in my home. A home without a lot of people coming & going is best for me. I did nip in my temporary home, but it was also learned that they were not giving me the proper dosage of my anxiety medication. / My energy level is 4 - 6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  My foster reports that I am a smart boy, so they enrolled me in Mostly Mutts’ Adult Basic Training classes where I recently received my certificate of completion for Mostly Mutts basic obedience.  This means I have mastered the ‘sit’, ‘come’, ‘leave it’, ‘down’, & ‘stay’ commands & how to ‘wait’ before entering & exiting doors. I also have good leash-walking manners, only pulling momentarily in new areas if something makes me nervous. They also say that I’m so smart that I know what they are asking me to do.  I do not respond well to any physical force as I’m very sensitive & get my feelings hurt easily, so a calm home & quiet-natured family is what I will thrive in. / I don’t need a crate at all in my foster home & in fact I do better without one. When my fosters leave the house, I do howl for a bit (so best no apartment/condo type home please), but I haven’t been destructive, & I usually just hang out on the couch.  At night I sleep in my dog bed next to my fosters’ bed & that makes me happy. / My potty manners are great in my foster home, so hopefully that will be the case in my new home, too!  • LIKES/DISLIKES:  I enjoy going for walks with my family, as well as hanging out with them in a fenced yard.  I also really love napping on the couch under a blanket & I enjoy playing with squeaky toys & balls with my person.  Collecting all the cuddles is also very nice! /  I am not a fan of that confusing, pesky iRobot vacuum cleaner, so I bark at it – though I’m getting more used to it with time.  I don’t like being restrained or physically forced to do something – it frightens me. Otherwise, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love & attention. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped & neutered.  I have a couple old man lumps & bumps that don’t bother me, & I hope you won’t mind either.  I am  taking an inexpensive anxiety medication (fluoxetine), which has greatly improved some intermittent eye tremors & some separation anxiety I was experiencing. I will likely need to take this medication forever as it helps me so much.   I’m looking for a home where I will be a much-loved family member where I can be with my family a lot. My adoption fee is $100.00, & I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.  January 23, 2025, 6:37 am

Story
A SWEET & SHY GIRL:  Approx. 7 years old / Approx. 14 lbs. Hi, I’m Leni!  I came to Mostly Mutts from a home that had a lot of dogs! We needed help when our dad had to go into hospice care, so Mostly Mutts took me, and quite a few others, into their program. Now I’m ready to find a new home and family of my very own!            • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I came in with other dogs, and there is another dog in my foster home, but we mostly ignore each other, so if you have a dog at home already that isn’t looking for a playmate, let’s meet. / I’m also living with a kitty and ignore her too. / I am very scared of young children, so only older, calm kids such as 15+, please. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I was very scared when I arrived at the shelter since everything was new to me.  I came from a home with many dogs, and I’m still getting used to being loved on and getting the attention that was missing in my former home. I was adopted and unfortunately escaped from my new family almost immediately and was on my own outside in bad weather for over a week. That caused a setback in my learning to trust, but I am making progress despite that and look forward to having my own family!  They will need to be very patient with me, but I’m looking forward to a loving and calm family. / My energy level is currently 3-5. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I’m currently working on building trust in people and it’s coming along with my foster who is patient and kind. / I sleep in a crate in my foster home but my favorite place is on the couch with a blanket. I’m learning to be a normal household dog and it’s going great! / I’m doing well with my potty manners so long as I am taken out regularly. Due to my escape trauma, I will likely not go out on my own in a fenced yard until that memory has faded, but if you will be consistent with me on a good schedule, I believe I will master my potty skills. • LIKES/DISLIKES:  As I’ve grown more comfortable, I enjoy hanging out with my foster, though I can still be a bit hand shy.  My foster mom and I spend time sitting together and I enjoy cuddling with her!  Also, I love Pup-Peroni treats so that may help me warm up to my new family. I enjoyed walks before my escape episode and expect they will be less scary again soon. / I do not care for being picked up as it seems that I may not have been handled as softly as I would have wanted to be previously. I wouldn’t want to be rushed into new situations or relationships, so please know that I’ll need extra time to settle in. I also wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get good care and gentle attention in my new home. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I needed a good dental cleaning when I arrived at Mostly Mutts, and I’ve had that now so my mouth is fresh again. I’m currently taking an inexpensive anxiety medication which I may or may not need to continue once I settle into my new home. Since I'm a dachshund, I naturally have a long spine which is subject to injury, so please don't allow me to jump on and off furniture so we can keep me safe and healthy.      I am looking for a loving home that will welcome me as a furry family member!  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.  January 3, 2025, 6:41 am

Story
A SWEET SENIOR LOOKING FOR AN ANGEL:  Approx. 15 years old / Approx. 14 lbs. Hi, my name is Macy!  I had a great home with a mommy who loved me very much, but – sadly – she passed away, and her family couldn’t keep me, so I am in great need of a new home. Mostly Mutts is looking for a senior-loving person or family to adore and spoil me rotten for the rest of my life – long or short.  If you have a heart for the seniors, I’m your girl.  • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  There are dogs in my foster home, and I simply ignore them, so if you have a dog that won’t want to play and will just coexist with me, let’s meet! / I’ve not met cats in my foster home, but – my foster feels that I would likely do fine with them if they left me alone. / Due to my age, and over enthusiasm of people food, mature kids such as 15+ would be the best match for me and – of course, let’s meet! • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I am a sweet senior girl who is a doll.  I don’t play anymore, but I do occasionally romp around my foster’s home/yard and sure do have a lot of love to give.  My foster reports that I’m easy going and just want to hang out with my person, nap in a comfy doggie bed and watch the world go by. I’m the perfect lap dog on a cold winter day! I am very food motivated and take food way too enthusiastically, so I should not be hand fed at all – just drop whatever you would like to give me into my food bowl, and I’ll be a happy camper. My foster will talk to you and tell you all about me! / My energy level is 2-4. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I don’t know any specific skills, though my foster says I get the gold medal for my sleeping talent! Lol. / In my foster home, I fuss for just a minute when put in my crate but then I give up and settle in. / I am not potty trained, so my foster uses a diaper with me. If you choose not to use a diaper, I would do best in an area with easy to clean floors! • LIKES/DISLIKES:  I like to be held, and I like multiple comfy dog beds in my home.  Car rides are nice, and I am used to them, so let me tag along when you are out and about sometimes – I just fall asleep on the floorboard. / I can’t think of any dislikes, though I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, good care and attention. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed.  I have a grade 3 heart murmur, for which I take Vetmedin twice daily. I easily take this medication in a little piece of cheese dropped into my food bowl (not hand fed).  I also have a fatty mass under my arm on my left side that doesn’t bother me, and I hope it doesn’t bother you either. I had a dental cleaning so my mouth is fresh again. Since I'm a Dachshund, I naturally have a long back which is subject to injury, so please don't allow me to jump on and off furniture so we can keep me safe and healthy. I am looking for a home where I will be a much loved and deservedly spoiled family member.  My adoption fee is $100.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.   January 25, 2025, 11:37 am
