PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION BELOW. IT WILL ANSWER ALL YOUR QUESTIONS. If you still have questions after, we are happy to respond through email. It is a long read and a long adoption process. Please understand we are ensuring that our babies go to great homes and we don't know you personally (yet). Understand that this is an adoption of a beautiful little soul that deserves the absolute best life. The average lifespan of a cat is 13 to 20 years. Some cats even live into their thirties, although this is far less common. So don't let that discourage you from adopting an adult cat! A lady on Next Door reached out to our rescue partner and asked if she could help a kitten. She was found in a bush alone in Torrance, Ca. SHELL was feisty and so small. Meet SHELL, a reserved three-year-old Diluted Calico Maine Coon from Torrance, California whose soft, pastel-toned fur reflects her gentle and quiet nature. With her long, fluffy coat that blends soft grays, creams, and whites, SHELL is a picture of elegance and grace. She may be shy at first, often preferring to observe her surroundings from a cozy, tucked-away spot, but with a little patience, she begins to open up in her own delicate way. SHELL has a refined personality and will allow pets—but only on her terms. She enjoys gentle head scratches and soft strokes when she's feeling comfortable, making her a true cat who values her independence. She’s skittish with sudden movements or new situations, but given time, her cautious curiosity will win out, and she’ll be quietly near, soaking up the calm energy of her environment. SHELL gets along well with other cats, blending into a multi-cat household without causing any fuss. Her mellow nature makes her unreactive to dogs, so she could live peacefully alongside a calm canine companion as long as they respect her space. While she’s never been around children, SHELL might do well in a quiet home where she can settle in at her own pace without too much hustle and bustle. Her Maine Coon heritage gives her a majestic look with a luxuriously thick coat and a large, regal presence. However, unlike the stereotypical social Maine Coon, SHELL leans into her more reserved, introverted side, making her the perfect match for a patient and understanding caregiver who will give her the time she needs to feel safe and secure. Are you ready to provide a calm, loving home where this beautiful girl can thrive at her own pace? If you’re looking for a quiet, independent companion who will blossom with time, SHELL may just be the perfect addition to your family. SHELL is a DILUTED CALICO / MAINE COON MIX. She is about 3 years and 9 months old and is good with cats. In her foster home, she was around other kittens and older cats. She will probably do best with a very friendly, loving and non aggressive cat or 2 cats. She has never been around children. We are not sure how she will do with dogs, but she is non-reactive. SHELL is currently located at our rescue in Hemet, California. ADOPTION PROCESS: 1. Go to Workinwhiskers.com (Click on ADOPT) 2. Fill Out Online Form 3. Submit Online Application 4. SERENA and her sister VERONIKA was saved by an independent rescuer back in early 2020. She was a tiny kitten. And she was adopted as a tiny kitten with her sister VERONIKA. Fast forward to 3 years later, they were returned because her son (who does not live with her) has "slight" allergies and she can't have them anymore. It took us a few months to get them back to feeling happy. Meet SERENA, a graceful 3 year old black Maine Coon, whose shy but sweet nature unfolds like a quiet evening breeze. Her long, silky coat—deep ebony like a starless night—radiates beauty, and she adores being gently brushed, especially when she’s feeling cozy and secure. There's a quiet magic in her presence, and for those who take the time to know her, SERENA’s trust is a gift that will deepen over time. SERENA may start off a bit reserved, but that’s just part of her charm. She’s still learning how to open her heart again, but she already shows a deep appreciation for affection, especially in calm, serene moments. Offer her soft pets, a few quiet words, and she’ll slowly start to let her guard down, showing that she’s ready to bond with someone who will be patient and kind. Her breed, the Maine Coon, is known for its intelligence and gentle nature, and SERENA embodies both these traits. She’s observant, curious, and, like many Maine Coons, she enjoys companionship, even if she doesn’t always demand it. This elegant girl would thrive in a peaceful, loving home where she can continue to rebuild her confidence. She enjoys a predictable environment where she knows she’s safe and can receive the slow, gentle affection she loves. Though SERENA might prefer to take her time when meeting new people, the love she has to offer is worth every moment. She is best suited for a quieter home, perhaps one where her new pet parent understands that some cats need time and understanding to fully bloom. In return, SERENA will give you a soft purr, a delicate nuzzle, and the companionship of a beautiful cat who’s learning to trust again. Are you ready to be the kind, patient caregiver who helps SERENA rediscover her love for life? Contact us to learn more about this lovely black Maine Coon who’s ready for her next chapter. SERENA is a DOMESTIC LONG HAIR / MAINECOON MIX. She is about 4 years 4 months old. She has lived with cats but needs proper introduction. She has never lived with dogs. She has never been around children. SERENA is currently at our rescue in Hemet, California. ADOPTION PROCESS: 1. Go to Workinwhiskers.com (Click on ADOPT) 2. Fill Out Online Form 3. DEADPOOL, his sister CASSANDRA NOVA and their colony family ELEKTRA, her mom X-23 and her brother WOLVERINE were saved in Hemet, California. The wonderful lady that lives in a mobile home saved them from the very cruel neighbors. She fostered them till they were ready for us to take them. Meet DEADPOOL, a goofy and lovable Maine Coon mix tuxedo cat from a charming corner of the world, whose larger-than-life personality is as irresistible as his fluffy, black-and-white coat. With his big paws and even bigger heart, DEADPOOL is a ball of fun just waiting to brighten your days. DEADPOOL is an absolute cuddle enthusiast. When he’s not playing with absolutely anything that moves (or doesn’t), you’ll find him curled up in the coziest spots, ready to snuggle up and shower his family with affection. His tuxedo markings only add to his sophisticated yet playful vibe—he’s ready to be your little comedian, always bringing a smile with his quirky antics. From paper balls to shoelaces, to even the most mundane objects, DEADPOOL sees everything as a potential toy. And if you’ve ever had a cat who thinks the world is a playground, you know how much fun that can be! He’s not just about playtime, though. DEADPOOL’s loving nature extends to everyone he meets. He’s a total social butterfly with other cats and gets along wonderfully with them, making him a great companion for your feline friends. Even dogs don’t faze him! DEADPOOL is completely non-reactive to them, showing that he’s all about peace and good vibes in the household. DEADPOOL is still growing into his impressive size, and he’s going to be a big boy! His Maine Coon genes promise he’ll be tall, strong, and even fluffier as he matures—making those snuggles all the more delightful. DEADPOOL needs a loving family who can match his joyful, spirited energy and give him the attention he craves. Will you be the one to welcome him into your heart and home? Contact us at Workinwhiskers.com to find out more about this delightful, charming kitty who’s ready to add some snuggles and smiles to your life! Does your family have room for a sweet, snuggly, playful companion like DEADPOOL? DEADPOOL is a DOMESTIC LONG HAIR / MAINE COON MIX. He is about 9 months old. He has lived with cats. JAVIER ESPOSITO and his siblings (KATE BECKETT - KEVIN RYAN - RICHARD CASTLE - ALEXIS CASTLE) was saved by a sweet man that takes care of his cats in his neighborhood in Hemet, California. Meet JAVIER ESPOSITO, a dashing black Maine Coon mix from Hemet, CA, who is equal parts charm and curiosity wrapped in a sleek, fluffy coat. With his piercing eyes and luxurious whiskers, he looks like he stepped straight out of a feline detective novel—always on the case, investigating every corner of his surroundings with an inquisitive flick of his tail. JAVIER ESPOSITO is a playful adventurer who thrives on fun! Lasers? He’ll chase them like a pro. Toys? He’ll pounce, bat, and conquer them all. And if you have a stash of Churu treats, consider yourself his new best friend. His enthusiasm for play is matched only by his love for making air biscuits, kneading away as if preparing the softest, most invisible loaf in town. He has a soft spot for feline friends—especially those who return the affection. If another cat is up for a good play session or a cozy nap buddy, JAVIER ESPOSITO is all in! He hasn’t had experience with dogs or small children yet, so he’d need a gentle introduction if he were to meet them in his future home. When he’s not in full detective mode or playtime frenzy, JAVIER ESPOSITO adores a good petting session. A few strokes down his silky coat, and you might just hear the deep, contented rumble of his purrs. He’s the perfect mix of playful and affectionate, always ready for a new adventure but equally happy soaking up love from his favorite humans. Could JAVIER ESPOSITO be the charismatic, toy-chasing, biscuit-making sidekick you’ve been searching for? If so, apply at Workinwhiskers.com and let the adventure begin! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Welcome to Act 2 Rescue where you become part of our A2R family! Adoption is an important time in your life and we are grateful to be a part of it. We take pride in offering you a personalized adoption experience with continuing behavioral support as needed. -Mindy Gould, CEO Hi, I’m Jewel! I’m a 2-year-old Maine Coon mix with stunning long-haired calico fur and a heart full of love. I’m as chill as they come whether it’ s curling up in your lap, lounging in a sunny spot, or just keeping you company, I’m happiest when I’m close to my favorite humans. I am FIV-positive, but don’t worry, it just means I need a little extra care, like regular vet visits and a healthy lifestyle. I can live a long, happy life as a single cat or with other friendly, non-aggressive kitties. FIV is only spread through deep bite wounds, and I’m way too laid-back for that! If you’re looking for a sweet, affectionate, and easygoing companion, I’d love to be your new best friend. Let’s meet and see if we’re  the perfect match! I am all ready for my new home or will be soon! Once sterilized, I will have been seen by a veterinarian, had all shots I was able to get when I was sterilized or they checked my sterilization status and microchipped!  All I need now is you! I am currently living in a foster home and am fully litter trained. Act 2 Rescue will even help you make sure I am able to integrate into your human and pet family with their behavioral coaching support during the transition period. I can't wait to meet you so please fill out an application for me today! _______________________________________________________________________  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please be aware we are a small foster based rescue in Riverside, California. Our volunteers often have other jobs/careers as well. We are not a government funded shelter and all of our donations including adoption donations are used to run the rescue and help the animals in our care. Since we are no kill, higher fees for in demand breeds help us cover critical care.  We are always in need of volunteers, donations, and fosters. Please excuse any wait times as we are often inundated with emergencies or short staffed due to the overpopulation crisis. You can learn more about us on our website or follow us here.   Steps 1-2  of the ADOPTION PROCESS must be done before we do OFFICIAL MEET & GREETS or take deposits.  To keep animals healthy,  we limit  foster based meet & greets  to people fully qualified to adopt them.   No animals can be held without a $75 deposit. Deposits cannot be refunded if you change your mind, they are to hold a cat and can result in other adopters being told they cannot adopt. ADOPTION PROCESS: 1.  Application:  Log into our website and complete the adoption application at link below: Applications :  Forms (rescuegroups.org) 2. Virtual Home Check: Once your application is approved, check back if you haven't been scheduled for a virtual home check within 48 hours.  A virtual home check to ensure safety of your residence for your kitty (not perfect cleanliness). You will be told during the visit if you pass.  3. Official meet & greet with your kitty at an adoption event, foster care, or adoption center depending on location of the kitty.   We only have a few  volunteers,  so we apologize at times we fall behind due to high demand of some cats.  5. Sign adoption contract and, if appropriate, foster to adopt clause. 6. Pay adoption fee via zelle using act2rescue@gmail.com (not our phone number) or using cash. We can accept cards at adoption events but the terminal charges fees that are pretty high so it's not the best option.  7. Take your kitty home. Be sure to isolate kitty while they adjust to your home. We may check in from time to time to be sure you do not need any additional support because we love hearing how our kitties are doing. As volunteer staff, happy stories are literally our paycheck.  8. Check out our website https://act2rescue.org for resources, blogs and info on how to best take care of your new kitty. Our professional behavior coach is available via text to assist you with transition as well. We also have a Facebook group to interact with our behavior coach and other kitten care experts, as well as our A2R family like you! ****Please note, we do not have dedicated staff for phone lines so please text instead of calling. If the cat/kitten is listed, they are available. However, they could have pending applications or meet and greets scheduled. Filling out an application and approval does not obligate you to adopt the kitty. If they are not a fit...we have plenty of other kitties for adoption. This kitty has received at least two FVCRP vaccines, rabies if over 4 months, Revolution for fleas/ticks/heartworms/stomach parasites/ear mites, de-wormer, sterilization*, and microchip (you must register for it to work but it's free).  All kitties are given a general wellness check by a veterinarian prior to sterilization.  Deposits: The only way we can hold a kitty is with a non-refundable (if you decide not to adopt within 2 weeks not if we void the adoption) deposit of $75. We reserve the right to void the adoption up until the point the contract is signed. If we cancel the adoption (for kitty health or other issues) we will refund your deposit. If you wait longer than 2 weeks, we cannot hold the kitty due to space constraints. Your deposit could be used on another kitty. If you decide not to adopt at all, any deposit will go to the care of animals rescued with us and may be written off as a donation.   Foster to Adopt: Kittens must be 2 lbs or 8 weeks and fixed to be adopted. This will be noted in the approximate available date. If a kitty is unable to be fixed in a timely manner, they may foster to adopt. This would be all adoption paperwork and donations would be exchanged and the kitten would go home. Adoption paperwork will have a clause that it is not final until animal is sterilized.  Once the sterilization appointment arrives you must bring them in to be sterilized or the animal will have to be returned to the rescue. You may also have them sterilized on your own and show proof to the rescue. Once sterilized the adoption will be complete. We normally do not do these in this manner but due to extreme situations they may arise. Final health checks are done during sterilization. Any unknown health issues would also allow you to choose a different cat.   Failure to comply with sterilization will result in returning the animal to us without refund of donations. Breeds:  We cannot guarantee breed but do our best to identify possible breeds based on their appearancxe and personality. If you DNA test your furry friend, let us know the results. It is fun to see what the kitty actually is and how close our guess is. Please know not all DNA companies test for all breeds and the science is still catching up so it may adjust later to have breeds we saw. We like to know so we can improve our analysis too.   We cannot guarantee health but go to great lengths to have healthy kitties. Kitties do not live in a cattery but in private fosters for this reason.  Snap Testing: We do not test for FELV/FIV in healthy animals as it is often incorrect in animals under 6 months and can be a false positive. False negatives also give a false sense of security. These tests are best done if an animal is unhealthy to determine disease.  https://www.uwsheltermedicine.com/library/resources/why-are-some-shelters-no-longer-testing-all-cats-for-felv-and-fiv February 25, 2025, 2:05 am
