Meet Macho, a gentle soul with a heart full of love. His name may suggest toughness, but he is the epitome of sweetness. With a friendly demeanor, he's quick to charm everyone he meets. Macho's mellow nature makes him the perfect companion for a calm and peaceful home. He's also a cuddly fellow, always ready to snuggle up for a cozy nap or a movie night. Despite his age, Macho has a youthful spirit that's infectious. His favorite pastime? Enjoying a good belly rub and giving out free kisses! Adopt Macho and you'll gain a loyal friend who will shower you with unconditional love and companionship. Macho is a 3 - 5 yr old male Mastiff mix. He has a medium energy level, so he should fit in well with most homes provided he receives a moderate amount of daily exercise and play. He does pull on a leash, but with basic obedience training, he should be walking like a champ in no time! Macho is food motivated and knows the command sit. He mixes well with other dogs in a kennel, but is afraid of cats in the shelter environment. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general-purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Always remember that the majority of dogs at our shelter have been exposed to or may have kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, please talk to your vet if you have any questions about kennel cough prior to adoption. Please ask your adoption counselor at time of adoption if you have any unanswered questions regarding illnesses and treatments of the pet that you are adopting. Jake is a full bred English Mastiff. We have had him since he was a puppy and he is a very sweet, loving dog. He is extremely well behaved, fully potty trained, follows commands, and is amazing with my small children. Unfortunately he has begun to show aggression towards some other dogs, which with his size I can’t have around my small children. He could be an amazing dog for someone that could work with his behavior towards other dogs. We do have another dog that he gets along fine with, and he does great with some dogs. He is so sweet and snuggly, he would make a great dog for someone!
