Meet Steve - A Loyal Heart Ready for a Second Chance Steve is a 9-year-old black and tan, short-haired Dachshund looking for a special forever home. For most of his life, Steve knew love and stability - he lived in the same home for nine years and shared a deep bond with his sister and littermate. Tragically, she passed away from cancer when they were five, and his world changed again when his owners divorced. Left without the care he once knew, Steve spent nearly six months confined to a laundry room almost 24/7 before finally being surrendered to rescue. Despite his difficult past, this resilient little guy is ready to find a loving home where he can truly thrive. Steve is a laid-back pup at heart, but he needs time to build trust with new people. He can be nippy at first, so patience and understanding are key. However, for the right person, the reward is immeasurable - a devoted companion who will follow you everywhere and look into your eyes with a depth of love and understanding that few dogs (or even humans!) can match. Weighing in at about 16 pounds, Steve is neutered, potty trained (though, like many male dogs, he may occasionally mark), and leash trained. He is well-mannered in the car, rides politely and is comfortable staying in a separate room or crate when his foster mom is away for a few hours. He would do well in a home with or without other dogs, but his foster mom believes he would thrive in a one-on-one environment where he can form a close bond with his special person. Steve loves the simple joys of life -- mealtime, treats and the security of a familiar routine. After all he's been through, he deserves a patient and loving home where he can finally feel safe and cherished.
