Story
There has to be someone out there that wants a slightly crazy minpin named Zookie.  Zookie makes a bad first impression and probably will not let you touch him for a day.  He will try to jump on you and play bite at your hands (he just gets so excited).  Next day if you sit on the couch he will want to jump up and kiss you and if you wave your hands to say no he will think that is again time to play with your hands.  He will warm up to you quicker if you are a female.  His foster mom can do almost anything to him before he gives a little growl saying enough.  Foster dad not so much but getting better if he had not choice that might go quicker.  Zookie would love to protect you and alert you to all doorbells, neighbors walking by, dogs in other yards and of course the phantom menace.   Zookie will also protect you from the evil lawnmower.   He would love to play tug with a toy with you and his special game of fetch where he comes close to you but only lets you have it after you tried a few times.  He will sit next to you on the couch of course try to play with your hands.  He flinched the first few times he got pets on the head but everyday accepts that those are not mean touches.  He is scared of the fly swatter and will flinch so we think he did not have the best touches in his past so someone willing go slow and gain his trust is important.  Zookie loves to go on walks and starts out excited but does take your cues and starts walking at an easy pace (until he sees a demon squirrel or rabbit).  We are working on intros with strangers and he does good if you give him cues and are in command of the leash.  He loves to chill outside in the nice weather.  He is for the most part housetrained if you have had other dogs he might mark or have an accident if it is storming outside (if bad weather he wears a bellyband at night).  He acts like a tough mean boy but storms and scare him and because a momma’s boy.  He does guard his things from other animals but he is in a foster home with two older dogs that could care less about his toys so he is learning that no one his stealing his stuff.  We think he has been passed around and not really worked with too much on social skills.  He is very food motivated!  Loves food and will whine to get your food if you are eating it on the couch, do not leave food unattended.  He would do best in an adult (teenagers ok) home that has time to work on his socialization so he does not want to jump on everyone when he first meets them and want their hands.  He can be a handful but 90% of the time he is a sweet funny dog that will entertain you.  The 10% is wild teenager that never got taught patience, and manners. To help pay for vet bills and care (transportation, food, toys, etc..) a $150 donation is requested at the time of adoption. All of our adoptions are contingent upon an approved application, home visit, reference check, obedience training agreement, and signing of adoption contract. All our dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before adoption. Our dogs are companion animals that live indoors as part of your family. Please do not apply if your plan is to have them as outside dogs, garage dogs, porch dogs or outside kennel dogs.  We do not ship dogs.   All of our dogs are in private foster homes. We are not a shelter with hours. A visit can be arranged after an adoption questionnaire has been filled out and sent in. Please try to email first. We are all volunteers that work so we can not easily take or make phone calls.July 14, 2024, 4:58 pm
