We are a 100% foster-based rescue. Applications can be found here on our website. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive for a meet and greet. Licorice is one of our longer foster residents, we owed it to him to give him plenty of time to decompress. We have taken a significant amount of time letting him acclimate to understanding being a pet & living in a home. He spent his younger days being a stud for a breeder, but now every day is leisure & playing with friends. His foster mom has reported a bit on his personality. He loves having furry friends of similar size in the home. We will require him to have canine friends, as he really looks to them for training & social cues. A secure physical fence will be required. Leash & harness training is not on the agenda. He doesn’t need a big yard; he just needs ample space to get some sunrays & do his potty business. His ideal home would be low-key and quiet. Licorice is going to be a hanging-out pal, not an activities partner. So, an active family would not be a good match. He is still quite fearful of hands but will let you pick him up to hold him. He is working on his potty-training routine; his foster mom says that the best plan right now is to continue letting him wear a belly band in the house. That alleviates quite a bit of stress for the humans & for Licorice. He has settled into the routine of his foster home quickly. He likes to be praised & responds well to words of affirmation. Anytime there is a change in their routine, dogs need a moment to adjust. Licorice is no different, but being the smart little dog he is, we think he will catch on quickly. You know that little human boy that lives next door with strawberry blonde hair who's cute as a bug, who is quiet and shy but once he knows you, he'll talk your arm off? Well meet the dog version meet Tyler! Tyler is a very handsome apricot poodle (possibly mix) who is almost 2 years old and weighing in at an impressive 7.2 lbs.. He is a retired breeder boy who is a diamond in the ruff. Shy upon first meeting new humans or dogs but very playful and loving with time. Tyler still is working on housebreaking. A regular schedule, consistency and patience will be needed for him to master it. He does not walk on a leash, he's still afraid of it. He will need a secured yard to do his business and enjoy a nice day. With a little time and a dog his size, he may become an excellent leash walker. He has puppy tendencies and chews on things he shouldn't (phone chargers seem to be his favorite). Tyler will also need a 4 legged friend to show him the ropes. One with his energy level, which really isnt a lot, and one who is friendly and patient. He is fine with cats, he only wants to play. He has not been around children, but we believe with older, gentle children he will do great after slow introductions Tyler is neutered, has beautiful clean white teeth and is up-to-date on vaccines + preventatives! Meet Vinny! Vinny is a sweet and curious guy who is looking for his forever home. While he gets extremely stressed in a kennel and cannot be put in one, he is always on his best behavior and has been perfect without one. Vinny loves to play with other dogs, though he seems to prefer smaller playmates. He's a big fan of playing fetch and enjoys going for walks outside. This snuggly boy loves to be right next to you all the time. Whether it's laying on the couch or being invited to sleep in bed, Vinny is happiest when he's close to his humans. He's still working on his confidence but is doing wonderfully in a home setting. He would be fine with older respectful kids. He would love a fenced yard to explore. This is Theodore! We believe that he is a 6-year-old Poodle mix. Theodore came to Judy's Forgotten Jewells on July 10th in desperate need of some TLC. He was originally a stray, which means he has been carrying around a WHOLE POUND of matted fur in this hot and humid weather. The poor guy must have been so itchy and uncomfortable...but look at how he is smiling since we shaved him this morning! Since he has been in care, staff members just love him! He is so friendly and loves meeting new people. His tail is always wagging! He has met other dogs and cats with no issues. He had a large perineal hernia which makes it difficult for him to defecate. A perineal hernia is the weakening or traumatic tear in the muscles of the pelvic area, resulting in the bladder, intestines, or fat pushing through the muscle to an abnormal position just under the skin. His hernia has been surgically repaired and there should be no long-term medical issues associated with it. He seems to be housebroken now that his hernia has been repaired. His adoption fee is $600. The adoption fee includes their care, de-worming, microchip, neuter, vaccines, fecal test, and preventatives up to the point of adoption. In addition to their adoption fee, there is a $40-$50 fee, depending on weight, to cover the 6 months of heartworm prevention we will send home with each adoptee. Marlin will be available 5/20/2024 but is accepting applications. He is an old man who spent his life as a breeder so is a nervous dog. He will need a fully fenced in yard. He likes to be held but will not approach anyone at this time. He is sweet and would benefit from a quiet home. He is getting fixed and having several teeth removed 5/14 so needs time to recover, and will likely only have 1-2 teeth left.
