Story
Carl is a wonderful little fellow who once in his comfort zone behaves like a normal, friendly, affectionate, playful dog. Carl does have fear of strangers which is easily overcome following a protocol we worked up with a certified dog behaviorist. He is not aggressive but warns off those whom he does not know. Carl makes a great companion once you earn his trust. Carl has quickly become friends with a few people who met him at his foster home & strictly followed our meeting protocol. Once he gets to know & trust you, you remain his friend, even after you leave him at the vet for a procedure. Carl does love his foster grandpa. While Carl is quite fond of sitting or lying on his foster grandpa on the couch, he needs & loves to run and play. A small dog secure fenced yard is an ABSOLUTE NECESSITY for Carl. Carl likes to spend significant time outside every day. Carl loves car rides & to explore on his daily leash walk. We know virtually nothing about Carl’s past. He was picked up as a stray & taken to the local animal control as a scared boy who did not want to be touched. Our vet estimates that he is approximately 5 years old. It took days for him to decompress in a foster home. Carl is afraid of strangers. He does not want them near him, moves away & tries to hide from them. He will get aggressive only if he is not allowed to move away from strangers who want to touch him. Carl’s fear is of humans, not dogs. Carl gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home & has shown interest in other dogs he has met. We want Carl to become as comfortable with an adopter as he learned to be with his foster & for everyone to be safe. Carl should NEVER be let off leash outside of his small dog secure fenced yard. Carl will bark at strangers, but calms down if walked with strangers with or without dogs. While walking with his foster grandpa, his leash can safely be handed off to someone to whom he has just been introduced. Carl needs a patient adopter without children with whom he can thrive. While prospective adopters’ children & Carl may form a mutual admiration society, it’s too much to expect their friends to understand just how different Carl’s fear makes his behavior. Carl’s trust in his foster grandpa has since achieved a level where his foster grandpa now shaves & cuts Carl’s coarse locks. Earlier it was necessary for Carl to be groomed was at a vet’s office where he could be sedated. We encourage you to see & learn more about Carl on his public Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61563018184933, or search FB on Carl Heather’s Foster Dogs. Carl is housetrained, neutered & microchipped as well as up to date on his vaccinations & monthly heartworm, flea & tick preventatives. Carl’s $400 adoption fee has been sponsored. If you are interested in meeting Carl, then go to heathersfosterdogs.org. Using the menu at the top of the page, click on Adoption Application. Complete & submit your application, which will serve as the basis for a conversation, & you will be contacted. We will make arrangements to meet with prospective adopters for Carl only after a submitted application has been reviewed & a phone conversation has taken place. ***Please note that we are a foster based group located in the southern suburbs of Chicago. Carl's adopter must live in the greater Chicago metropolitan area.***

Story
Puff is living in a foster home. Fill out our quick adoption survey, and then we can set up a phone call or meet and greet with the foster! Puff is: Spayed: Not yet, she will be spayed after she completes her heartworm treatment and a $50 refundable spay deposit will be required. Up to date on vaccines: Yes! Microchipped: Yes! Our microchips will automatically register when an adoption is finalized More about Puff: Housebroken: She has done well on a consistent routine with regular potty breaks, going out every few hours. Crate trained: She has done well with free roam when at home alone, but she has not been left at home solo much in her foster home. Leash walking: Doing well, though she is not a huge fan of the cold Dog social: Yes! She lives with 2 small resident dogs in her foster home and has been doing very well with them. Cat social: Unknown Kid friendly: Unknown Puff likes: - Laying her head on your shoulder and snuggling her head under your chin - Learning all about toys, treats, and living in a loving home - A good cuddle session with you, or a dog pal Puff is the sweetest fluffy gal who absolutely craves human touch, loves to be curled up next to her person, adores a good belly rub, and will reach out with her little feet to say "don't stop". She doesn't really understand what to do with toys and stuffies, and isn't one to take treats from your hand, so she has a lot to look forward to in learning how to be a beloved dog in a loving family! Puff is heartworm positive and on activity restriction. Puff is undergoing treatment at Ellis Clinic at no charge to their adopter. Heartworm is a treatable disease that most dogs make a full recovery from. You can learn more about heartworm treatment on our resource page , www.onetail.org/heartworm Puff has also been diagnosed with a heart murmur, and it's recommended that her adopter follow up with a cardiologist to explore further and help her stay healthy. Puff's adoption fee is $300, and she is ready to cuddle up with her forever person! Next steps: Email adopt@onetail.org with questions, or submit an application online and we'll be in touch to schedule a meeting: https://www.onetail.org/apply-to-adopt/ *** Our adoption application stays on file for one year and can apply to any dog in our program. Once the app is submitted you will receive an email within 48-72 hours. For additional questions, email adopt@onetail.org ***

Story
Judy girl is ready for her forever home. Judy came into the rescue after being a breeder release from a mass production mill situation. She is estimated to be about 3 years old and the perfect size for your forever friend. Things to note about Judy: - She is a bit of a timid girl. Though she begins to trust and wants to be by your side, she will need a patient family to allow her the space to get there. - Judy definitely is prefers women over men, so warming up to a man will be a slow process. With that being said, she would not do well in a single man household but would be okay for a couple who has a women to help provide a sense of safety. - Because of how nervous she gets with loud noises and fast movements a home without children, or with adult children only is preferred. - She likes to eat alone in the sense that she gets a little nervous when people are watching her. Shy girl! - She does require a home with a yard. Currently the leash is a scary thing and feels safer without it so walks are not in her cards right now. - She does require a home with a confident dog to help her continue to come out of her shell. The ability to follow them has helped her make wonderful strides! Judy is available for adoption within 3 hours of Chicago. If you are interested in being considered a forever home please apply directly. If you have questions before applying please email adopt@chicagorescueauthority.org Her adoption fee includes her spay, up to date vaccines, heartworm negative and microchip.

Story
Finley is being fostered in PA. Finley is a very sweet, gentle, 8 year old mixed breed boy who loves all people and gets along great with other dogs and cats. He is much more interested in his human and being right with his human than he is about other animals. Finley is a spry, healthy little man who was excellent for his grooming and at his first vet appointment where he had blood drawn and was given vaccines. Everyone comments on how sweet he is and his foster mom thinks he's pretty much perfect. Finley has some vision and is very able to follow his foster mom all over the house. He quickly learned how to go up stairs and he can come down them well now, unless they are new to him. He is apprehensive on unfamiliar stairs and needs help getting started but then he's fine. Finley has sporadic skin issues that seem to cause his hair to be a bit thinner on his back end and belly. These issues may be caused by seasonal allergies but we are not exactly certain of the cause yet. Finley appears to understand potty

Story
Perry is an X- Puppy Mill Dog Needing a Patient Home That Will Help Him Blossom. Perry is an active young fella that is getting to know what life is like outside a puppymill. He has spent the first year of his life in a mill. He was released by the breeder who no longer wanted him. Perry has been with us about 4 months and during the time he has done very well adjusting to living in a home, not a cage. Puppy Mill dogs are not socialized and are afraid of many noises and sounds another dog has generally been exposed to. Each day is a new learning experience. Perry has learned his lessons well enough to begin a new life with a new family. Mill dogs MUST have fenced in yards for their potty place. This is not optional, This is for safety. They must have dog savvy families that have time and patience to earn a dog's trust. They also should be in adult homes that are very careful with doors, gates, etc,. to prevent door dashing. No one wants a lost dog, but we don't want a mill dog to take off. Perry will benefit from another respectful similar size and age dog in the family. Mill dogs understand dogs far better than people. Perry has more confidence with his mill buddy Gerry. Another dog in the family will help bring Perry out. Of course, you are welcome to adopt his mill buddy Gerry as well if you don't have a buddy for Perry yet. In time, Perry will benefit from training and might even be a candidate for agility training. Training is more than a skill set, it helps create a better bond and communication skill between human and dog which is even more important with a mill dog. What's crucial is that Perry needs a patient and caring owner who is willing to let her set him own pace. In just a couple of months in his new home, we believe Perry will begin to feel safe and fully relax into the household routine. Perry is expected to thrive in a home with either a gentle, respectful dog as well as having a family who is willing to spend a significant amount of time with him This companionship will help him feel more secure as he continues to adjust to her new environment. He MUST also have a fenced-in and gated yard as her potty place for his safety, given his shyer disposition. It's worth noting that once he does feel safe, he'll delight you with his charming poodle personality. Perry is crate trained and potty trained. That being said there is always a learning curve in a new home so please understand you will have some mishaps at first but most of the work is already done. Perry is 1 year old and fully vetted, He has been neutered, received age-appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and is heartworm negative, Subsequent vaccines are at the expense of his adopter His adoption donation is $800.00. He is on the hunt for his own completely committed family, Dogs can live to be 20 years old so he wants to be sure his family is all in for better or for worse! We adopt in the local Chicago metro area. We require home visits, If you would like to apply to be considered as an adoption candidate to adopt Perry please fill out an application for him adoption on our website at: https://www.rescuetailsanimalwelfare.org/info/adoption We are all volunteers with full-time jobs.
