These girls were so dirty and matted- starving and praying for a hero! They are both very sweet and gentle. Gianna is very smart and did wonderful during her first grooming. It was discovered after removing all of her matted hair that half of one of her ears is missing. We can’t even imagine what they have been through! Peaches is the sweetest dog and has endured a lot! She came into animal control not once, but twice in her short 5 years. The first time she was a healthy weight, but already had ear issues. The second time she was emaciated with black debris coming out of her ears (sorry for that yucky visual). She was put on puppy food for 6 weeks and has 10 more days to go until she gets back to the weight the vet desires. After that she will get to eat adult food on a regular schedule. She is silly and snuggly and thinks she's a lap dog! We believe she's a Poodle mixed with ? Peaches may always have ear issues due to them being left untreated for so long. She currently gets her ears rinsed (solution and gauze wipe out) and is also on medicated drops. Through it all she has been a trooper and loves everyone she meets! She walks nicely on leash, sleeps on the fosters bed with the cats and loves the 2 boxers she lives with, especially the male (silly girl). Peaches has all her age appropriate vaccines: rabies, bordatella, DHPP, is microchipped and was heartworm tested (negative). *Note: we do not adopt out beyond a 100 mile radius from zip code 53046. About Me: Name: Aaliyah Breed (or best guess): Poodle Mix (possibly with Schnauzer) Approximate Age: 7 yr Gender: Female Approximate Weight: 21 lb Adoption Fee: $495 Requirements: Fenced yard, patient adopter Why In Rescue: puppy mill survivor Profile:   Aaliyah came from a commercial breeder/puppy farmer who was no longer going to use her for breeding.  Aaliyah is a friendly gal who is progressing nicely past her puppy mill days.  She will need work on walking on a leash, so a fenced yard or potty area is best.  She will need help with housetraining.  While she would love to live with other dogs she can be placed as an only dog.  If interested please fill out the adoption application. Dogs from commercial breeders are generally undersocialized (often very scared/shy/skittish) and probably never lived in a house.  They will need to learn things like how to walk on a leash, go up stairs, and what things like a television are.  They need a patient adopter who will give them the time they need to adjust and to learn to trust people.  Every baby step forward needs to be celebrated, and the dog needs to be accepted for who they are at each step.  Some dogs can adjust quickly and learn how to be a loved pet pretty easily.  Others can take a long time to even be comfortable with things like walking through the house and being in the same room as a person.  No matter how far and how fast the breeder dogs progress, they are wonderful dogs and deserve a great home after their life on the puppy farm.  A fence or at least a secure fenced in potty area is highly recommended for the dog's safety, and may be required for some dogs.  Another small dog in the house can also help many former breeders adjust faster to life in a home, and also may be required in some cases.  We do put the needs of the dog's first, so it is nothing personal if we determine a particular dog isn't suitable for your specific home and living situation.
