Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All dogs listed here are available for adoption from Yorkie Rescue Houston.  Our goal is to ensure our rescued pets go to their forever home and never end up back in the system.  To that end, an application is required on all potential adopters.   Our adoption fee varies by dog.  We accept electronic funds via VENMO or Paypal, or cash only. Puppies too young to be spayed/neutered are available for Foster-to-Adopt only.  A FTA contract is required.   Bite History! (minor)Nibbles is a GREAT dog! He loves to be the BOSS DOG and is protective of his humans. He devours and loves his squeaky toys and is a lovely addition.  This little nugget did get a bit 'defensive' and bit.  We don't know what the circumstances were surrounding the bite.  The shelter reports it was  'minor' bite.  We will tell you he presented as defensive and unfriendly at our vet.  We were able to administer an anti-anxiety drug to help him deal with the stress of being poked/prodded.  He was NOT happy about it, but we were able to get him vetted! We are working on helping him to learn trust.  His adopter will need to be prepared to continue this type of counter-conditioning to help him become less reactive  and more trusting and open to love. We have been able to crate him, and he does well in a crate.  He's a great little dog who will get along with females, but is male selective.    He can (and will) climb a baby gate.  He's really very sweet and loves to be loved.  He will roll over and show you his belly.   He dislikes strangers and his family will need to give him some time to decompress and learn to trust.   PLEASE DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS DOG IF YOU HAVE OR PLAN TO GET ANOTHER MALE DOG  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 2, 2024, 3:10 pm

Story
Est. DOB: 4/1/2023, male, neutered, chipped, up to date on vaccines, schaunzer/chi mix, 15 lbs   Niner is a feisty little schnauzer, chihuahua mix who is very adamant about getting his human's attention. He loves to be the center of attention, and is motivated by praise and treats. He is outgoing and doesn't mind jumping into his human's lap...many times if necessary. He waits patiently for as his food bowl is being prepared, does not steal food from his foster siblings, and does well in a kennel overnight. Niner is familiar with a doggie door, he barks when there's something to bark at (like the neighbor dog is out, or the doorbell rings) and he will be on your lap the moment you sit down. Niner was found running in and out of traffic on a busy street and it took well over an hour of patience to finally get a slip lead on him. Once he was brought into the house, it was clear he just wanted love. He has the best expressions and his personality is over the top. If he needs attention, he's not above using his human as a springboard. And he can easily jump a couple of feet off the ground straight up. Niner is in a foster home with other dogs that he does well with. We are looking for a home where someone is home a majority of the time and he has other dogs for company.  Please consider making this gorgeous boy a member of your family. As we are a foster based rescue, we require a completed application to be submitted before we arrange a meet.  This can be found on our website at :   Apply Now (almosthomepetrescue.org) $200 (including tax) adoption fee includes core vaccinations, rabies vaccination, heart worm test (in dogs over 6 months of age), microchip and registration, spay/neuter, wormer and flea and heart worm prevention while the dog is in our care. All breed and size categorizations are estimates. If transporting out of state, the total adoption cost will be $500. This amount is inclusive of adoption fee, transport fee, health certificate, and taxes January 3, 2025, 11:19 pm
