Story
Our shy, timid mutt girl. She’s a gentle soul who can be a bit anxious at times, but once she warms up to you, she’s incredibly sweet and loyal. She’ll need a patient and understanding home, preferably one that is calm and quiet, where she can feel safe and loved. She does well with other dogs but would need some time and space to adjust.

Adoption Application: https://www.cognitoforms.com/New2URescues/AdoptionApplication ********If dog/pup is showing as available it is available. Please do not email asking if it is. Submit application to meet dog if interested - yes an application is required******** Meet puppy mill survivor, Opal. Opal’s life before freedom was very difficult, and not kind to her. She had very limited human contact during this time. This has made her a very fearful dog, who requires a very patient , loving, and kind family, who will understand needs of a scared puppy mill dog, helping her reach her potential. Opal has the biggest black eyes, which can melt your heart. You can see how much she wants to be loved and give love, she just hasn’t figured it out quite yet. She finds difficulty with trusting humans because of the way she was treated her first 3 years of her life. Her foster family says she is slowly accepting them. Opal has learned to play with toys and acts like stuff animals are her babies. Opal had her last litter of puppies in September 2024, she was an excellent mother. Opal is house trained, she sleeps in an open crate at night, and when she is fearful of visitors. Opal is not leash trained, she is very fearful of the leash. This is will take a lot of patience. Given that opal had a lot to endure when she was in the puppy mill, she will not do well with small/ young children. Opal will do well in a quiet home, preferably with another dog around her size. Opal is hoping you are her special person, who will open your home and heart to her. Could this be you? If you would like to meet this adorable dog an application must be filled out https://www.cognitoforms.com/New2URescues/AdoptionApplication We are in Rochester, NY, we adopt to people who live in the Rochester area. We do not ship our dogs and require home visits. Must live in area to adopt, will not respond to out of area/country requests. Additionally we require physically fenced yard for dog/pup to play in safely. Exceptions are sometimes made to this requirement but is up to the foster and more often done for the small breed dogs. All our dogs have been treated with de-wormer; heartworm tested (if age appropriate -7 months or older); treated for fleas/ticks; microchipped; and examined by veterinarian plus given age appropriate vaccinations. We take every effort to ensure the health of the animal and you will receive a copy of all vet work performed at time of adoption. Dogs will be spayed/neutered thru us prior to finalizing any adoption. We provide information on dogs age and breed based on what we are told by person surrendering dog or vet's best guess. While we try our best we cannot guarantee that this information is 100% accurate and can often be best guess in case of our lovable mutts. You can learn more about our rescue and process at www.new2urescue.org or find us on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/New2Urescue. You must be 25 yrs of age or older to adopt through us.
