Story
Odin has been a 100% pleasure – he is my favorite of all the rescues, he just Chills and Relaxes all day, perfect for a retired person, or an older person. Yes, he may look scary, but he has Zero aggression, he wags his tail for the delivery drivers, he loves little kids, he is very graceful around everyone, does Not knock things over like many big dogs, he follows me from room to room but still stay out of the way, usually parks/sleeps near the door, he Loves Fans and loves the cold tile floors, he can sleep wherever he wants but choses the floor, he will cuddle and purr for 10-15 minutes then gets up and sleeps on the floor nearby. He eats a lite breakfast with pre-cooked hamburger/rice an add some whole milk, water and maybe an egg. poops in the same spot-near the trash cans and pees in the same spot on the dirt 2-3 times a day, when I check the mail, he watches me from the edge of the lawn, never tried to run away-he only wants to stay close and watch me. As I work from home he is nearby and and does not bark at cars or door-knocking. Fireworks or loud noises don’t bother him at all, he does not chase any lizards, does not chase birds or cats, and he sees them. When its pouring rain he will pee under the cov-patio and come back in quickly.
What does he Love:
He loves to eat, he will lay down near the kitchen when someone is making food. His favorite food is meat, his favorite treat is cold lunch-meat, turkey/ham or pieces of cheese or real liver. A mostly meat based diet has been best for him – too many veggies makes him gassy/bloated/bad poops – it keeps him trim and shiny coat. He also loves to lay in the Sun a bit, its been crazy hot, but he loves to layout for 10-15 minutes, then hit the shade, he also figured out how to cool off and sit on the 1st pool step and quickly lay down-and run into the house, “nothing happier than wet-dog”, haha. He loves to be brushed while laying down-he will start to loudly purr like a lion, he purrs when a loved one cuddles/pets scratches his neck/back.
What does he Not like:
He is a 100% inside dog – and gets sad and whimpers when I leave to go to the store-but he have never been destructive, never pulled food of the counter. He taps the door if I shut the door behind me, I don’t need to keep him out of any room, he leaves everyone alone in the bathrooms. He does not like heat, I think he runs hot and always parks himself in front of any running fan, I keep my house rather cold 70* and he still want the fan in the master bedroom-he sleeps on my antique couch or on the floor nearest to my fan.
What is special:
He is very attached to his person, he follows me everywhere-but not in the way, just very nearby. And he is very Impressive looking, when I walk outside with him neighbors and other dog walkers always stop and ask about him in-awe, When he had his eye surgery in Encino, walking down Ventura Blvd, people in cars stopped to ask and the nurses All of them came running to pet him. He is impressive, cant go anywhere without people loving on him, and he loves it, always waging his tail and loves the attention.
What is not great:
He does Drool, after he eats, he must be wiped up with a face towel – or he will slime you, we have hand towels all around the kitchen/family room, he will drool just watching someone eat, or preparing food. His trips to Vet got my SUV back seat covered in drool, even the outside of the windows – that’s about it, even the Vet workers called his “a perfect gentleman” he is very gentle, graceful – but I think he even dreams about Foood.
He had his Cherry eye fixed by the xlnt eye surgeon in Encino an he has maintenance eye drops, but I think he is 100% done now -all fixed. He recently was Neutered and because he is soo large 150-160 pounds it took more effort. I would love to see Odin go to a home not an apartment, and he is great with a quiet life, he would do fine with a little-old-lady, he is super gentle, kind and prefers to just relax all day – does not bark, or escape, or get into any trouble. He is a keeper, unfortunately I can not keep him or I would have gladly kept him – I will cry when he goes.
