Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application HEADLINER: TOTO- 2 year old 87lb Newfoundland HISTORY: Toto’s owners left on a trip to India and never returned for her. She arrived to MTM from Kentucky. Other than that, there really is no history on this docile girl. PERSONALITY: Toto is such an easy-going gal. She just melts into your lap with love and pets. She is super affectionate, loving, silly, playful, & spunky all in one! She truly loves to be included in everything and is a super quick learner! She is a social butterfly with such a kind eye- she really attracts all who walk by her! At times loud individuals make her a bit shy- she warms up as soon as they stick her hand out and meets them with tons of licks and tail wags. She does have a mischievous puppy side to her at times and she ALWAYS keeps us laughing. With her sensitive and sweet, yet active when she wants to be, demeanor it is so hard NOT to fall in love with her. FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: Loves to go on long walks/runs! Wants to play with every dog she sees! Has not quite figured out fetch but enjoys chasing the other dogs chasing a ball! Ha! Loves snuggling on the couch and getting head rubs. She keeps her eyes on the kids and wants to be involved in anything they are doing!- weather they want her company or not! Clumsy at times, she will never be far from her people! MEDICAL ISSUES: She was treated for an ear infection and a stomach bug(bacteria) in her foster home that has since cleared up beautifully! She did amazing at the vet and behaved beautifully. We had no issues administering medications. Toto is spayed. WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST KIND OF HOME: Toto will make an amazing family dog she truly adores everyone. An active family is a plus as she still has some puppy left in her! At times, she forgets her size and could definitely knock small children over with her kisses, an older or dog-savvy child would be ideal! ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: She is not very food motivated- doesn’t love most treats and is finicky with her food at times. She will knock her food around and go back to it when she is hungry! Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy: Please know that 100% of our fees and donations pay for the costs of rescuing dogs. These include but are not limited to pull fees from shelters, veterinary examinations, vaccinations, medications and care, microchips, neuter/spay surgeries, heartworm treatments, behavior evaluations, and foster care, as needed. Story
Yogi is a Newfie retriever mix rescue who has been living with us in midtown Manhattan along with his 7 year old rescue sister, named Arya. We adopted him when he was approximately 2-3 months old to keep Arya company, since her 13yo brother (also a rescue) was dying of cancer. Yogi has been in training five days with a force-free trainer since arriving to our home. He is very sweet and smart. However, he has been displaying very concerning signs of fear-based aggression since becoming an adolescent. He has not bitten anyone, but we have had several close calls. While limiting/removing certain factors that would trigger his aggressive behavior. However, he continues to growl at random strangers, especially at tall, built men/people wearing hats or masks. Yogi lives in a busy high-rise building where encounters like these are frequent and unavoidable. We have come to the sad reality that perhaps the intense environment and overwhelming number of people in NYC is not the best fit.
