Story
3/11/25-Foster Update: Bella is a sweet 6-year-old Golden Retriever and ready to start looking for her forever home. She was surrendered from a breeder and has normal breeder issues such as being afraid of new people, noises, and new situations. She has learned to trust us and comes to us for attention but will crouch down when we walk up to her. She has learned to like and trust her foster brother but it took a week or so for that to happen. She eats and sleeps (at night) in a crate and during the day sleeps in it with the door left open. She is good about letting you know if she needs to go outside as she will pace around and not lie down. We are not sure about kids and cats but feel she might be best with kids a little older (8+) who don’t make lots of sudden movements and loud noises. She will need a physical fence and another dog similar in size so she can continue to be more confident. Bella needs a patient family willing to work with her on trust. If she sounds like she might be a fit for your family, please submit your application today! https://grroiowa.org/adoption-information/

Story
3/13/25-Foster Update: Sarah is a beautiful 3-year-old, 60-pound, medium-energy Golden Retriever. She came to GRRoIowa as a breeder surrender. As with most breeder dogs Sarah was initially scared and anxious. She was very skittish, and fearful of new people, new situations, and noises of all sorts. After two days Sarah began to come out of her shell. She started to initiate contact with her foster mom and foster mom’s dog and became much more relaxed in the home. With the help of her foster sister as a role model, she is a sponge for learning new things. And with lots of love and patience she is conquering her fears slowly but surely. Sarah has learned the command sit and we are working on come and off. She loves all dogs and does well with cats. She shows no sign of resource guarding. She loves toys, treats, and spending time with people she has learned to trust. Sarah is not fond of crating but will crate when necessary. She is a bit of a countersurfer and an end table thief. She does get car sick. (Medication has not been tried) She is 75% potty trained. Sarah will require a fenced yard to keep her safe. A dog is required to continue to build her confidence. Sarah can live with all ages provided care is taken to keep things out of her reach. She is currently receiving vaccinations and is scheduled to be spayed soon. She is a happy, loving girl waiting to share that love with you. If you have the patience to continue training and love to give her she will become an exceptional member of your family.
