Story
Meet Kevin, the 6-month-old Podengo puppy with a name as fitting as his epic energy! True to his sight hound roots, this boy’s got serious “hunt for fun” instincts—whether it’s a toy, a leaf, or the invisible scent of adventure. He’s very smart too, mastering routines faster than you can say, “Who’s a good boy?” (Spoiler: it’s him.) Kevinis the life of the paw-ty! He’s super friendly with people, dogs, and probably your mail carrier too. But be warned—when he needs to go outside, he will let you know… loudly. Think "future lead singer of a rock band" loud. So, he’s best suited for a stand-alone home where his vocals won’t bother the neighbors. As a classic Podengo, Hunter needs plenty of exercise and would love a securely fenced yard where he can zoom around safely. This breed is built for speed, much like a mini greyhound, which means off-leash play in open areas isn’t ideal—they can get going so fast it can be dangerous! Now, about his leash skills… Let’s just say Kevin thinks the leash is for freestyle interpretive dance. Sniffing, zig-zagging, pulling—you name it, he’s doing it. But hey, with his brains, he’ll get the hang of it in no time (especially if treats are involved). Kevin is ready for an active home where he can be your adventure buddy, cuddle champion, and occasional loudmouth. If you’re looking for a hilarious, lovable, high-energy pup who’s ready to be your new best friend, Kevin's your guy! If you are interested in finding out more about Kevin, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRO/Dog Hunter is being fostered in Framingham, MA. The adoption fee is $500. Like Broken Tail Rescue on Facebook!. Follow Broken Tail Rescue on Instagram! Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.

These pups are in Providence, Rhode Island too!

Story
“Picture yourself in a boat on a river With tangerine trees and marmalade skies Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly A girl with kaleidoscope eyes Cellophane flowers of yellow and green Towering over your head Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes And she's gone” 💎 Lucy in the sky with diamonds 💎 All you need to create this picture perfect scene? A sweet little fearful chihuahua named Lucy, a handful of diamonds (not that hard to come by, right?), and a vivid imagination. Don’t let Lucy fool you with her big girl bark, behind her shy exterior is a gentle and sweet girl who needs a family to help her feel safe. Even when Lucy is fearful and scared, she hasn’t attempted to bite or snap. She can be handled and carried easily, but she’s still working on learning how to walk on leash. Once Lucy is home with her family, she will discover the wonders of sleeping under blankets and cuddling with her people. She has grown close to staff here and will politely ask to climb into our laps for attention and a little bit of love **if you are interested in Lucy, please complete an adopter’s profile at parl.org and come in during our open hours**

Story
Meet Rupert Rupert is a six year, 9 lb, 4 oz, potty trained little snuggly guy. Here's his story as of Monday, Feb 24th. After many months, I am OVERJOYED to finally introduce my foster dog, Rupert. Rupert was tied up in a cruelty case so his identity had to be kept under wraps. But this week, due to the hard and heroic work of the staff at East Providence Animal Control, Rupert's case is over and he is released and ready to find his forever home. His story is a bit of a sad one to start, but at present, he is a very happy little man. Rupert was part of a hoarding situation, he was not injured, but there were injuries to animal(s) upon the raid of the home. All of the animals were brought to the safety of EP shelter where they immediately received vet care, and a huge amount of love and empathy. How did I end up with a then 15 lb Chihuahua? If you remember, I had undergone major surgery in the early fall and once I was cleared to lift 15 lbs my search for my next foster began. Who wants to be couch bound for a long recovery without a snuggle buddy? Not me. Over the months I am proud to report that we got Rupert down to 9 lbs, his goal weight. He had a few teeth removed. He settled in seamlessly. He is now ready to find his forever home. As with any dog coming into our programming, he has some issues. We are looking for an adult only home for Rupert as he does not like to be surprised with quick movements when he is on the floor. He has been with humans of all ages, but due to some resource guarding of myself, direted at dogs, he may do best in a home with a dog who is willing to just co-exist with him or no other dogs. He has been fine with cats, save a specific cat known to have aggression issues attacking Rupert. Even after that incident, he has shown no negative or fearful reactions toward cats. We would prefer no kids, but older kids may be considered on a case by case basis. Rupert is a mellow, snuggly little guy. He brightens each day. He loves to be held and cuddled, and loves to sleep under the covers in bed. Due to the behaviors mentioned above, he has a Take My Lead trainer, Kristina Lowe of Kristina's Critters. We strongly suggest that the FREE training that our Take My Lead grant provided be used to help Rupert learn to be the most comfortable he can be in his new home. Story
Introducing the delightful and dainty China, a 1-year-old Chihuahua mix who is sure to steal your heart 🐾❤️ This sweet, social, and funny pup is a bundle of energy and endless enthusiasm, her tail wagging excitedly and her big, expressive eyes shining with joy. When China first arrived, her story was a heartbreaking one - she had been severely starved and was in poor physical condition. However, despite the trauma she endured, China has shown an incredible resilience and gratitude that is truly inspiring to witness. China's zest for life is palpable in every wag of her tail and every bounce of her step. Whether she's racing around the yard, playing a spirited game of fetch, or simply lounging in a sunny spot, this girl radiates pure, unadulterated happiness. Her ability to overcome her difficult start in life and blossom into such a loving, well-adjusted companion is a testament to her strength of character and the power of a second chance. China also gets along wonderfully with children, cats, and other dogs, making her an ideal addition to families of all shapes and sizes. Any family would be incredibly fortunate to welcome China into their home.
