Story
Storm is a 3 year-old Domestic Shorthair mix who weighs 7 lbs. She was surrendered to CHA when her owner could no longer care for her. Storm is an inquisitive, adventurous girl who enjoys running around the cat room. She is very sweet and enjoys being pet, although she can sometimes become overstimulated. When overstimulated, she might swat or try to bite. Storm would likely be best in a home with more mature children who are better able to read her signals and who are old enough to understand how and when she prefers to be touched. If you`re looking for a loyal companion, Storm could be the girl for you!

Story
Snow Flurry is sponsored by Cindy Johnson, a lover of all animals. Snow Flurry is a Sweetheart!Hi, my name is Snow Flurry! I am a 4 year old Domestic Shorthair cat who was brought to CHA as a stray. I am a very affectionate girl who will never say no to ear scratches. Along with being a friendly cat, I am also a bit on the adventurous side and enjoy climbing and exploring new rooms! I`m always purring, and when I`m especially happy I`ll flop to one side and make air biscuits. I`m longing for a forever home that can give me the attention and enrichment that I desire, so if I sound like the perfect match for your family please come to CHA and meet with me today!

Adopting a Polydactyl

Frequently asked questions about acquiring an Polydactyl - the pros and cons of adopting versus going through a breeder, and associated costs.

Adopting a polydactyl from a rescue or shelter costs around $75 to $150. Conversely, buying a polydactyl cat from a breeder, especially a breed such as a Maine Coon or Pixiebob, can be prohibitively expensive, somewhere in the $1,000 to $1,500 range.

The easiest way to adopt a Polydactyl would be through a rescue that specializes in Polydactyls. A great place to start is to create a breed search on Adopt a Pet. The search will show you all the available Polydactyls in your area.

Polydactyl fun facts

Fun Facts:

Cats normally have 18 toes (5 on each fore paw and 4 on each hind paw), but Polydactyl cats can have as many as 8 toes on any one paw. Guiness World Record-holding Polydactyl cats had 28 toes!

Polydactylism is a genetically inherited abnormality. No one breed of cat is more or less likely to be polydactyl -- all breeds are susceptible to having the trait for extra paws.

American Polydactyls are also referred to as Hemingway Cats because writer Ernest Hemingway was so fond of them that his home in Key West currently houses around 50 descendants of his polydactyl friends.
