For Adoption: Kiba! Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. Hello my name is Kiba. I am a 5 1/2 month old black Pomeranian male puppy with a long white blaze on my chest and two partially white hind feet. I weigh in at approximately 5lbs. I’m just a little guy and I won’t get much bigger. My foster mom thinks I am absolutely beautiful inside and out so I am going to let her tell you all about me. We know that Kiba is really cute and he will certainly attract a lot of people with his sweetness, but please read his bio in detail and only apply for him if having read the bio and what we are looking for in a home/family for him, you are a great fit for him and vice versa. This lovely little boy was surrendered to a shelter in Quebec due to a change in the living conditions of his previous owner. If I could only use two words to describe this dog, they would be “pure joy”. Kiba has melted the hearts of everyone who has met him. He has even been able to convince some of my extended family, who are fearful of dogs to pet him and even pick him up and let him lick them in the face. Kiba loves all people, young and old from toddlers to the elderly. When with children, he is happy to jump into the fray and mayhem, and does not mind being kid handled. (Please note that due to his small size, his interactions with children should always be supervised as he could potentially get injured. ) He will even try to jump on the toboggan and go for a ride down the hill with the kids. He would be fine for a home with children over 7yrs of age that can be gentle with him. With the elderly Kiba is very gentle and is quite happy to sit quietly in someone’s lap to be petted. Kiba would be an excellent candidate for a therapy dog. Kiba is a very attentive dog and learns quickly. He is naturally agile, therefore would likely excel in dog sports such as agility and rally obedience. He is also quite goofy and so is fun to teach tricks like dance and crawl. Kiba is currently enrolled in level one obedience class. Within 24 hours of being in my care, Kiba learned the commands sit and down. He has since learned the commands wait, look at me, go on, crawl, off, and is understanding but still needs work on the come command and dance. Because he is so smart and loves to attend classes and learn new things we are only considering a person or family for Kiba who is truly invested in advanced dog school classes for him and have researched this and know the time and financial investment needed for quality dog training. He is so active and smart that if not trained and exercised to his full potential he will easily become frustrated and will be one of those yappy and snappy small dogs that no one enjoys. We want better for Kiba and want him to live up to his full potential. Kiba Is very outgoing dog and could easily be a contender for the worlds friendliest dog award. Kiba also loves other dogs and tries to engage them in play. Kiba is very good about not barking when he sees other dogs, however he has not yet learned proper dog etiquette and so will try and jump up on them regardless of their size. That being said, Kiba does get jealous if I am petting another dog and will try to intervene by jumping in the middle to get the petting. For this reason, if there were another dog in the home it would need to be a tolerant dog who will be gentle with a puppy as Kiba learns proper dog etiquette. Kiba does have a strong prey drive and will chase squirrels. It is currently unknown how he would react to cats. A dog savvy cat that won’t run from him will be fine but again, he will need to learn how to live appropriately with cats. Wanting a travel companion? Kiba travels quite well in his crate and pretty much makes himself at home wherever he goes. While he does not always enjoy the crate, he can be crated with minimal fuss. He sleeps in a crate at night, and is generally quiet through the night. Although due to his small size, and subsequent small bladder, he does like to get up early in the morning so he can get out for a pee. He will let you know he wants to go out by heading for the back door, but if you miss his cue, he may have an accident. If he is in his crate, he will bark or whine to let you know, he needs to go out. He is not an excessive barker, but does bark at strange noises until he figures out what they are or you tell him to stop. He is currently afraid of the vacuum, and we are working on desensitizing him. Anyone wanting to adopt Kiba, should be willing to brush/ comb Kiba daily as he has a thick and luxurious coat. This is an easy task as he will sit quietly in your lap while he is being combed and brushed. Care should be taken around the ears, as his soft silky fur mats up quickly. He is also easy to bathe and will tolerate the scary blow dryer if you feed him treats. He handles well when putting on his coat and when drying him off with a towel after his walk in the snow. Did I mention that Kiba absolutely loves the snow? And he will plow through it, poke his face in it and chase and eat snowballs. It should be noted that due to his small size he loses body heat quickly and can only tolerate being outside in the winter for short periods. Even with his coat on. He is very sensitive to salt and will cry if he gets salt on his feet. This little guy is the whole package. Lively and energetic outside, he will run and leap about with childlike glee on his long line, and is easy to walk on the short leash. He also enjoys being outside by himself in the yard where he will sniff about. In the house he is more than happy to play with the toys in his toy box (although he does occasionally steal paper or Kleenex to chew). And in the evenings he loves nothing more than to settle in on the couch with you and enjoy being cuddled or rubbed around the neck. Kiba’s ideal home would be one in which he is able to reach his full potential. As mentioned, he would excel in agility and/ or rally obedience or as a therapy dog where he could continue to bring joy to others. All of these endeavors take time invested in proper training and socialization so this is a big consideration. Your 1st year with him will be taken up with regular training classes, outings to tons of places to help grow his confidence, and ensuring he is exposed to all kinds of positive people, places and things to socialize him properly. He enjoys meeting people and adapts to new situations, so an active lifestyle would benefit him. He is not a dog that wants to be carried around in bags, he is an active dog and needs to be out on his own 4 feet, exploring and getting his energy out. Kiba would do well in a home where someone is home more than away, he will not be suitable for a home where everyone is gone for a full workday. He is tiny, and as such can be a trip hazard so he wont be a good fit for anyone with mobility issues who could fall easily. He is full of pep so needs more than a simple slow walk, this pup wants to move and run and have fun!! If you are interested in this pup please ensure that you tell us all about yourselves in the application and ensure that you cover why you would be the best fit for this great little dog!! Story
Jessie (brown and white) and Junie (black and merle) are two strongly bonded female Pomeranians who came into rescue from a shelter after being picked up as strays. They will need to be adopted together.  With no history, it is estimated that Jessie is 8-years-old, and Junie is the younger of the two, but an adult dog.  Both are spayed and they each weigh about 11 lbs. These are sweet-tempered dogs who are more frightened than anything else. They are hand shy and flee sudden hand movements, but have no aggression at all that we have experienced. They are good with the foster mom's dog.  They are curious but shy with strangers and have made progress in that area while in foster care.  Housetraining is a work in progress and both dogs will require continued support with this. Junie is curious and likes to explore, but will run like the wind at any sudden sound or movement. She is playful and puppy-like with Jessie. Junie will follow Jessie’s lead – if Jessie is allowing someone to pet her, Junie will very slowly come out to be petted, too. Sometimes she stands and enjoys the petting, and at other times she flattens herself against a wall and looks away while being petted. She is dependent on Jessie and will panic when Jessie is picked up, and when separated from Jessie in any way. Junie also gets frantic if you try to pick her up and tries to get away, so time and patience is required. Jessie is friendly, but wary. Once settled, she started "welcome barking" and wagging her tail when seeing her foster mom. She is still hand shy, but increasingly less so and enjoys being petted. She runs to greet visitors and will usually permit petting, although she also retreats quickly. She still startles easily, but recovers quicker than she used to. Jessie is protective of Junie, but not aggressively so. If you try to pet Junie, Jessie will sometimes insert herself in between. Jessie can be picked up and held, but she is still not overly uncomfortable with it, and remains stiff.  She appears to be relieved when put back down, at which point she will come right back for pets. They have been kept in a limited space when alone and are not crate trained. They gnawed on the baseboards a bit, but didn’t pursue it when the baseboards were covered. They have chewed blankets and towels, pulled stuffing out of dog beds and toys, and shredded disposable pee pads.  Junie seeks out shoes and both of them will chew shoes if given an opportunity.  Toys and appropriate chewables are offered in place of these, but they will need continued support learning what they can and can't chew. Neither dog is used to being walked. Jessie will stand frozen when harnessed and leashed, so learning to walk will be a work in progress and time, patience, and a gentle approach are required. Jessie is good in a carrier going to the vet’s, and is easily handled by the vet for an examination and nail trim. Junie is harder to pick up and examine, as she gets frantic, yipping and scratching, but both dogs permit handling of their heads and it is easy to examine their teeth. They also respond well to a routine. At bed time, they play a bit together, and then are quiet and sleep through the night without issue. Jessie and Junie would probably do best in a quiet home without children. They need an experienced guardian who has time to spend with them and understands their unique needs. They are significant flight risks and need a securely-fenced outside space to roam around in. These two girls have so much potential if given the chance to shine in their new home!December 31, 2024, 8:48 am

Story
Miso is a 9-month-old female dog with a heartwarming story of resilience. Sadly, she endured abuse from her previous owner but was rescued just in time and is now safe in a loving foster home. Miso has a striking and unique appearance as a party Pomeranian, which makes her stand out as truly special. Her past experiences have left her with some understandable anxieties, and she occasionally exhibits mild nipping when she feels threatened or unsure. However, with the stability and care provided by her foster family, these behaviors have significantly decreased. In a new environment, Miso might initially feel uneasy and may revert to light nipping as a way to communicate discomfort, a remnant of her traumatic past. This isn’t aggressive but rather a sign that she needs patience and understanding as she adjusts. Giving Miso the time and space to open her heart will make a world of difference. Despite her past, Miso is incredibly affectionate and loves people, including children. Her playful and endearing personality shines through, making her a joy to be around. However, due to her young age and past experiences of neglect, Miso tends to feel anxious when left alone. She yearns for a home where she can have constant companionship and feel secure in the knowledge that she is loved and safe. Miso is a bright pup who already understands basic commands and has immense potential to flourish with the right family. She longs for a home that will shower her with love and provide a nurturing environment where she can truly thrive. If you’re ready to offer Miso the warmth and unconditional love she deserves, she is more than ready to return that love as a loyal and devoted companion. Are you ready to be a part of Miso’s fresh start?
