Story
Diamond is a 6 years old male pug mix. We think he may be part of a beagle. He weighs 21 lbs. Diamond is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. He is mostly house trained. Diamond is a quiet boy. He is very shy. He is friendly to most of the dogs. He is not friendly to male dogs which are not nice to him. His reaction to these dogs are nonstop barking. Diamond is also friendly to kids. We are not sure about cats. Diamond's adoption fee is $250. Please submit the adoption application at https://charlieswishanimalrescue.org. We need to have the application to schedule a meet and greet.

Story
Frannie was rescued along with her mom and siblings from Franklin County Dog Shelter. The shelter is no place for babies!Mama Pearl has been fantastic and the puppies are all happy and healthy. Mama Pearl is a pit mix (pictured) but the pups seem to have have shorter legs, curly tails and wrinkled faces so we suspect a strong pug presence. But we could be wrong!Either way, Frannie loves other dogs all humans and time in her fenced yard with her siblings. You can apply to meet her at ricopetrecovery.org! Adoption fee is $350 and includes first 2 set of vaccines spay and microchip. Owner will cover 3rd and 4th set of vaccines.

Story
Bella is a 4-5 year old black and white mixed breed that weighs 28 lbs. We don't know her mix without a DNA test, but she looks like some pug and perhaps terrier. She is prematurely greying so she looks older, but we knew Bella when she was a pup with her brother Buckley (36 lbs). They don't look like siblings, but they were found together as puppies and were adopted together. They have always been together since puppyhood and we want to keep it that way. They keep each other company but still enjoy playtime and loving with their humans.Bella and Buckley went to an adoption event at a local petstore and did great! This was the first outing since coming to the kennel and they were happy to be in a quieter environment. We made sure to tell visitors to approach quietly and the dogs were fine with new people. We took them for a walk together around the store and they were ok on the leash and liked the exercise. We were so proud of them!Bella usually lets her brother Buckley run the show, but she'll jump in when she feels comfortable. She likes to lounge on furniture or burrow under blankets. She'll usually let Buckley sniff out strangers before she warms up. Once she does ,she is a sweetheart who likes to cuddle and kiss. A nice fenced in backyard is all she needs for her exercise and potty needs. No walks needed! She would prefer a home with adults or respectful older children. Cats are ok but Buckley is enough dog for her. Buckley and Bella are used to being in a home and are housetrained. Their perfect home would be a quiet one with a fenced in yard where they can relax and nice comfy couches to cuddle. If you have room in your heart and home for both Bella and Buckley, apply at www.caninecollective.org

Adopting a Pug

Frequently asked questions about acquiring an Pug - the pros and cons of adopting versus going through a breeder, and associated costs.

Adopt a Pet can be a great starting point to find a good Pug. You’ll find lists of Pugs available for adoption from various rescue organizations and shelters across the country. Use the advanced search and filter options on these websites to narrow down your criteria. You can specify the breed (Pug), age, location, and other preferences to find Pugs that match your requirements. Once you find a Pug that catches your eye, reach out to the rescue organizations or shelters through the contact information provided.

It’s not inherently cruel to buy a Pug, but the ethical considerations lie in where and how you buy the dog. Adopting a pug from a rescue organization or shelter is a more compassionate and ethical choice, as it not only provides a home for a dog in need but also discourages unethical breeding practices.

The cost to adopt a Pug is around $300 in order to cover the expenses of caring for the dog before adoption. You can adopt a Pug at a much lower cost than buying one from a breeder. Buying Pugs from breeders can cost anywhere from $500 to $2,000, depending on whether or not they’re from show-dog bloodlines.

You should consider adopting a pug if you’re looking for a relatively small dog that doesn’t require extensive exercise with a low-maintenance coat. Pugs are known for their affectionate and friendly nature, making them great for individuals who live alone or families looking for a loving pet.

The easiest way to adopt a Pug is through a rescue that specializes in Pugs. A great place to start is by starting a breed search on Adopt a Pet. The search will show you all the available Pugs in your area.

Pug fun facts

Fun Facts:

Pugs are actually mini-Mastiffs and were bred by the Chinese 2,000 years ago. They were once the furry companions of Buddhist monks.

A Pug once saved the life of Prince William of Orange! His tiny, wrinkled friend barked to alert him of an assassin -- unusual for a Pug as they are not natural barkers.

Napoleon's wife Josephine owned a Pug named "Fortune." Before her marriage to Napoleon, while she was in Les Carmes prison, she snuck notes to her family out of her cell via her Pug friend!
