Story
Dog Name: Madonna Breed: Rat Terrier Mix Sex: Spayed female Age: 2 years Weight: 13 lbs Medical Needs: none Housebroken: Madonna is wonderful about using potty pads. At this time, because she freezes up on a leash, she doesn't do her business outside. Crate trained: yes Good in the car: yes, she rides very well in a dog car seat, I haven't let her on a car ride where she hasn't been secured however. Good on a leash: Madonna does not do well on a leash. When she is leashed she freezes up and will not move. During those moments of panic, if you try to pick her up she does react negatively and may attempt to lunge at your arms. We are working on this. Energy level: low Need a fenced in yard: no Dog Friendly: yes, however she is very territorial over her crate. She's fine with my resident dogs unless they wander into her room while she's crated. If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No Cat Friendly? Not tested Kid Friendly: At one of her fosters, she lived with young children but did not interact with them. The kids are dog savvy and gave her space. She was curious about them. If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? I would recommend any children she lives with to be 10+ years. Madonna may have some vocal cord damage and doesn't exactly growl. Because of this, she can't give a vocal warning when she needs space like other dogs would. Anyone she shares a home with would need some understanding of dog body language and know when to give her space. Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Madonna and her puppies are some of the many dogs who came from a massive abuse and neglect case down south. She hasn't known kindness, peace, or structure until very recently. It's taken many slices of cheese and several vienna sausages to gain her trust. When her crate is open, she will come out to use a potty pad and go back in. If I pick her up and bring her to the couch, she will sit next to me for hours watching TV and napping. She can be sensitive to touch and will sometimes flinch if you get to close to her neck. Unfortunately it's believed her abusers carried and tossed her around by the scruff. That being said she now wears a collar and harness just fine without trying to chew it off. She's come a long way, and she just wishes to live in a peaceful home. Story
Dog Name: Milton Breed: Rat Terrier Mix Sex: M Age: under 6 months Weight: 8lbs Medical Needs: none Housebroken: Scheduled trained, no accidents in a long time! Crate trained: We’ve not had an accident in a while, but he’s not crated for more than a few hours. He will whine or bark to go out, hurry he’s a puppy and still learning! Good in the car: We crate him for safety or buckle him up but he’s great! Good on a leash: Good, but needs direction Energy level: Medium with the occasional zoomie Need a fenced-in yard: Recommended but not necessary Dog Friendly: Yes! Milton loves other dogs If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive home? Recommended Cat Friendly? Yes, does not mind our cat. Kid Friendly: Yes! If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Any with proper supervision. He is currently fostered with a 6-year-old What special traits make your foster unique, or do we need to know about them? Milton has such a wonderful personality. He exudes happiness. He’s a silly, playful puppy who enjoys chew toysand occasionally his foster brother's Crocs. He’s a better guard dog than our big ones but should not be confused with a barker. For a little dog, Milton is pretty quiet. Milton loves to play and snuggle and enjoys all the attention on him. He gets along great with dogs of all sizes. He acts like a big dog. He will surely win over all dog lovers. His personality and disposition are perfect for any family. He will be remembered fondly as the one who got away.   Fosters Location: Dover, De Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application (if you already have an approved application on file email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app ##2213937##
