Story
Astro, our 6 month old 44 pound puppy, is possibly a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. But, Astro's back is smooth. We checked, there is no Rhodesian Flatback. Your guess is as good as ours, but we do know this leggy looker will be a big boy (over 60 pounds likely) when he's fully grown. Since Astro's favorite activity is spooning, he's looking for an adopter that doesn't overheat easily. Found stray, the shelter asked us to help as Astro has a back leg that is turned outward a bit. We diagnosed him with an old shin fracture that had healed so that his foot was pointed to the side. Not in any pain, Astro can run around like any other puppy. He just looks a little like a ballerina when doing so. We can't overemphasize how cuddly Astro is. He is a soft-hearted guy and is shy with new people. But once he gets over his apprehension (it doesn't take long), Astro turns into a giant lap dog. Being a big puppy, Astro can be a bit of a bull-in-a-china-shop when he gets the zoomies, so we don't recommend really little kids in his home. Astro liked the older kids he met. Besides cuddling, Astro also REALLY loves dogs. He takes cues well and will try to convince every dog to play with him. We think Astro would thrive with a canine buddy. Astro also wants cats to play with him. This annoys most cats, but a dog savvy cat could be workable. Astro is very good on a leash and is mostly doesn't pull unless he sees a stick that simply MUST be chewed on. He is good in his crate and is house-broken. Being a puppy still, Astro's adopter should be excited about continuing his training and socialization. Astro is heartworm negative and current on his preventatives. He's neutered and vaccinated. We also checked to see if there was a Rhodesian Mesaback. Not yet, but there's always a first! Apply to adopt at www.stumptownstrays.org
