Story
Hickory is a male German Shepherd/Rottweiler mix November 1, 2021. This handsome boy just graduated from his Basic 1 Dog Training. Hickory lives with and gets along well with other dogs - large and small- as well as dog savvy cats. One of his favorite past times is playing and romping with other dogs of a similar size. He is both potty and crate trained. Hickory knows numerous basic commands including sit, down, stay, off, leave it and wait. Some of these he’s still working on perfecting, but he’s making great strides and when a high value treat is at stake, he usually rises to the occasion! Hickory has been known to chew on something he shouldn’t but with redirection and the command “leave it” he's learning quickly what is off limits. Hickory gets excited and can be a bit vocal in public. He will make a great companion to some person or family. His ideal home would be one where his people are not gone for long periods of time during the day, and one where he has at least one other canine companion. A secure 6 foot fence and children over 5 is required. Applications: www.mikeyschance.com

Story
Meet Stewie! This adorable (best guess on breed) Rottweiler/Sher-Pei mix was born February 7, 2024. Here is a little bit about him: Stewie is great with other dogs of all genders and sizes, he’s trustworthy with cats and has had exposure to backyard chickens as well. He loves to cuddle and has the cutest (but loudest) puppy snore! He is crate trained, potty trained, and working on basic commands and leash walking. We are seeking a home for him with a securely fenced yard. He will really thrive in a home with another active canine companion. If there are kids in the home, preferably over the age of 5. Story
Hello! my name is Patito! I am a very handsome guy staying here at Blue Mountain Humane Society! I am having a little bit of a hard time settling in here, as the shelter can be loud and scary at times. Even though I can be pretty timid and shy, the staff here are learning bits and pieces about my personality every day. I enjoy cuddles and being close to people I trust, and seem to really enjoy treats! New places and people can make me nervous, but with a slow and gentle introduction, I'm sure well be best friends! I'm not to sure how I feel about other animals yet, but if you have other dogs at home, I would love to meet them here at the shelter to see if we could be friends! If I sound like the right addition to your home, fill out an application online and come down to see me! I cant wait to meet you!

These pups are in Richland, Washington too!

Story
Adagio and his three siblings were found abandoned, left in a box out in the cold. After being examined by the vet their age was identified as 7-8 weeks old -born October, 2023. We do not know his breed(s) but based on the attached weight projection chart we believe he will be a medium sized dog (35-40ish pounds) when fully grown. (See photo on the scales-these were taken upon entry to the rescue). Adagio was the smallest in the litter but has almost caught up to his big sister cadence. Adagio, also known as dodgy or Gio, is a scamp that loves, Loves, LOVES food and eats his meals far too fast. We think this may be related to him being the smallest and possibly not getting adequate food when they were abandoned. In his foster home they scatter his food across the floor or put it in a snuffle mat or a kong to slow him down. Needless to say he is very treat motivated but most of his motivation is for the treat, not to perform. He does know sit, down and place and is working on other skills-he has excellent recall, he is crate trained and will go to his crate when instructed to do so and potty trained! Adagio is confident, outgoing, silly and energetic. He is currently living with other dogs and cats. Adagio would do great in a home with a fenced yard and a person or family that is committed to his continued growth and development and will cherish him for his lifetime. A canine companion would be great too. To apply: www.mikeyschance.com/adopt-a-dog

Story
He's a clown, he's a lover, he's gentle, and he's a world champion snuggler. Rolo has a heart full of love, and he just wiggles with joy when his special someone comes home. HISTORY Rolo is part of the Cocoapup litter - five very young babies who were dumped on a country road near Prosser, in Eastern Washington, in early September 2023. A rescuer took them in and called on HART for help. We were able to place them in a foster home, and they have been in foster care ever since. The breed mix of dumped puppies is always a "best guess" situation. However, based on their appearance and temperament and supported by a DNA test an adopter did on the Cocoapup they took home (who is almost the spitting image of Rolo), we're confident that mama is a Doberman. The DNA test indicated papa is a Husky/Malamute mix. Rolo is located in Pasco, Eastern Washington. We post our dogs as located in other cities in order to optimize their chances of finding a great home. These dogs are totally worth a road trip! However, if necessary we will transport them to an approved home anywhere within the Pacific Northwest. SOCIALIZATION Socializing these dogs since their rescue has been a long, slow process, because they were in very poor physical health when we took them in, and that slowed their social development. Rolo has made huge strides in building confidence and learning to accept new people and situations, but he needs an adoptive family that will continue patiently working with him. With people he knows Rolo is a happy, affectionate pup. He takes a while to warm up to strangers, but treats help! He's looking for an adopter who is willing to continue socializing him and building his confidence. He hasn't been around children while in our care, but we believe he'd do well with kind children aged around 10 or older. He's a gentle boy and we'd trust him with younger children, but he'd likely find typical kid energy overwhelming. Rolo shares his foster home with several other dogs, and gets on well with all of them. He often initiates play, but respects their boundaries. We believe he'd do best in a home with another laid back, friendly doggo to show him the ropes and help him fit in - and, of course, to be a playmate. There are four cats in Rolo's foster home, and he pretty much ignores them. He will do well in a home with a confident, dog-savvy cat. He has also shared a foster home with ducks and chickens, and he showed no sign of any prey drive. TEMPERAMENT & BEHAVIOR Rolo would enjoy life with an active family. He's a mellow, laid-back pup who knows how to relax and do nothing, but he does need daily exercise, play and stimulation. If you don't give this boy enough of a workouthe will entertain himself! He loves to dig - if there's a fishpond or a swimming pool in your landscaping plans, Rolo would love to help! Once he's had his workout, he is a snugglebug deluxe! Rolo's favorite place in the world is up on the couch, cuddled up close to his foster mom and soaking up as many pets as she's willing to dish out. However he isn't needy - when you're working at your computer or busy with chores, he's content simply to stay close by and watch you. He enjoys a good chew, especially on a good juicy bone, and he's pretty good at knowing what's his to chew and what's yours to leave alone. He loves stuffies and squeaky toys, and usually takes a while to destroy them. For active play, nothing beats a good zoomie - alone or with a friend. He also loves rough play with the other dogs - tag, tug, you name it, he's up for it. Rolo rarely barks unless the other dogs get him going. That said, he's very vocal - his one Husky character trait! He has opinions and likes to express them, and when he's sad and lonely he'll tell you about that too. TRAINING He is reliably house-trained and will tell you when he wants to go outside. He's crate trained and is used to being crated at night or when his foster mom is away from home. He's not yet ready to be loose unsupervised in your home. However, his house manners are generally pretty good. This boy is very smart and highly trainable. He responds well to correction, is treat-motivated, and loves to learn. However, he still has a lot to learn. His recall is iffy - sometimes he'll come, sometimes he's busy. He's still learning to be comfortable on a leash, but he tends to pull. He knows "sit" and is learning "no" and "leave it". However, in many ways Rolo is still a puppy. He can be bouncy and clumsy, and is still learning not to jump up on people. He likes to dig in the yard - seriously, if you think your house might be sitting on oil, he's the dog for you, but if you're passionate about your garden, he probably isn't right now. In other words, like most adolescents he still has lessons to learn about being a civilized family member. PHYSICAL & HEALTH STATUS Based on their teeth and the fact that they could barely lap water, we estimate that the Cocoapups were maybe six weeks old when we took them in. We have assigned them July 23, 2023 as their birthday. Rolo is in good overall health, and have been neutered, vaccinated, treated for intestinal parasites, and microchipped. We expect him to weigh around 75-80 lbs when full-grown. ADOPTION INFORMATION The Cocoapups are living in a private home, and will be available to meet you after your adoption application has been approved. Please email HearthfireART@gmail.com to request an adoption application form. Story
This gangly young goofball is just so much fun to have around! Reese is smart, playful, snuggly - just an all round good boy! HISTORY The five Cocoapups were very young babies in poor shape when they were dumped on a country road near Prosser, in Eastern Washington, last September. A rescuer took them in and called on HART for help. It took a while to get them healthy, and more time and work were needed to build their confidence and teach them that humans could be good - but Reese and his brothers (Heath and Rolo are also still available for adoption) have thrived in their loving foster homes, and are very ready to join their forever families. Their breed mix is a well-educated guess, since their are few certainties with dumped dogs. The adopter of one of the other Cocoapups had a DNA test done that confirmed that that mama is a Doberman. The test revealed that the papa of that particular pup is a Husky / Malamute cross, and since Reese is almost identical to that littermate we're assuming he's the same. In temperament, however, he's clearly Dobie / Goofball cross - and he has a short Dobie coat, no fluff. SOCIALIZATION Reese loves the humans he knows well, and although he's cautious around other people he warms up fast. He hasn't been around many kids, and because he's big and can be clumsy he'd probably do best sharing a home with dog-savvy kids aged 10 or older. He shares his foster home with a large pack of dogs of all ages and sizes. He is generally respectful of the grumpy old dogs, and very playful with the friendly members of the pack. When he visited a home where there was a dog-savvy cat he showed only mild interest, and when another foster dog in his current home killed a bunch of chickens he ran away and hid, because he knew that was Bad Dog behavior. Reese appears to have very little prey drive. TEMPERAMENT & BEHAVIOR Reese is easy to have around. He needs a good daily walk or play session, as much for the mental stimulation as for the physical exercise. But in between times he's good at just kicking back with a bone, a chew toy, or a large raw carrot. Given time to finish growing and to increase his fitness level he'd be a great companion for hikes or casual jogging, but he'll be just as happy with a family offering a less challenging exercise routine. He's an affectionate pup who loves attention - but he likes to initiate contact; if you reach to pet him he's likely to back away. Left to set the dial on petting time, Reese will check in with you at intervals to collect a hug and a kiss, and if you're upright he loves just to lean in for some skritches - but then he ambles off and continues with his day. He's not needy, and will often hang out quietly by himself. Reese loves a good chew, and although he's pretty good at knowing the difference between his toys and yours he still sometimes forgets. When there are dogs to play with he loves to wrestle and play tug or keep-away. He enjoys toys, especially stuffies and squeakers, and will chase a ball - although he hasn't yet learned to bring it back. He may become increasingly protective as he matures and gains more confidence. He already barks when visitors come to the door. When there's nothing to bark at he tends to be quiet. TRAINING Reese is reliably house-trained, and will let you know when he needs to go out. He is crate trained, and will often put himself into his crate just to snooze or hang out with a toy. He's comfortable on a leash and enjoys going for leashed walks, and he usually comes when he's called (although he may stay just out of reach if he thinks he's in trouble). His house manners are good and he is rarely destructive. This boy is clearly very intelligent and eager to please. He love treats, and praise gives him the all-over-happies. Because he's growing into a big, powerful dog, he needs his human to be committed to training to ensure that he knows exactly how to behave in challenging situations - but we'd expect him to be a delight to train, and he'd love the mental challenge of going to school. PHYSICAL & HEALTH STATUS Based on their teeth and the fact that they could barely lap water, we estimated that the Cocoapups were maybe six weeks old when we took them. We have assigned them July 23, 2023 as their birthday. Reese is in good overall health, and has been neutered, fully vaccinated, treated for intestinal parasites, and microchipped. We expect him to weigh around 75 lbs when full-grown. ADOPTION INFORMATION Reese is living in a private home, and will be available to meet you after your adoption application has been approved. Please email HearthfireART@gmail.com to request an adoption application form. Reese's adoption fee is $425.
