You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Smoothie, the sweet and gentle mama who was found with her daughter and son at an abandoned house in Texas. Smoothie was initially scared and hesitant, but after a few days of gentle coaxing and building trust with food, she warmed up and showed her loving side. Smoothie has been a breeze to care for in her Texas foster home. She’s doing great with potty training and responds well to her name, especially when it’s time to come back inside. She is still working on other commands, like Sit, but she loves food and that makes training easier! Smoothie has a calm and easygoing nature that makes her a quick learner when given the chance. Her favorite parts of the day? Eating and getting belly rubs, of course! She loves cuddles and playtime. Smoothie enjoys napping in her crate, especially when she’s snuggled up with another dog. She can be a little vocal when initially put in her crate, but settles quickly. She’s just a sweet dog who loves being with people and getting plenty of affection. Smoothie would love to find a forever home with another dog, she enjoys the companionship of other dogs. Ultimately what Smoothie really wants is a place where she can feel safe, loved, and part of a family again. Smoothie is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 8/23/2024 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you.
