Story
Please read ALL of this, before inquiring about Mateo.
First, Mateo is a good boy. He LOVES his people, loves being outside in the yard (doggie door trained). He is good with other dogs and cats, as long as you are with him. He is not destructive and not much of a barker.
Mateo came here just 7 days old, 3 years ago and has lived here ever since. This means he will need some time to adjust to a new home, especially a home possibly without other dogs. He will be very shy at first. He is a very loving dog, sleeps in my bed every night, loves his bully sticks and other treats and loves not eating the same dog food all the time.. Never tears anything up or gets in any trouble.
now let me tell you, why I am forced to rehome him and please read all before you go "heck no".
I have never had any issue with Mateo before. I have several dogs, as well as cats. One of those cats was his bestie. They played together every day for the last 2 years. Then something happened, and Mateo killed the cat in the yard. And it wasn't accidental. He didn't understand he killed the cat. He was searching for her for 3 days after.....Bull Terriers are a lot of things, but not exactly smart
Now, I would have moved on, as he never paid any interest to the other cats and they never go in his yard, but today, he violently attacked another dog that was not part of his pack (also a very playful, nagging dog he never liked) and I had to run out there and pull him off or he would have seriously hurt him. Luckily the dog he attacked was a screamer, alerting me.
Now, Mateo would never attack another dog when I am present and I do not believe he would EVER attack a dog that is part of his pack, however, I have many dogs coming and going here and there will always be dogs that are NOT in his pack. He meets tons of dogs and mostly just ignores them, or wants to sniff them. He rarely plays with them, he does play with his pack. He loves to rather be with people.
I am heartbroken sending him away, but due to my situation, it is impossible for me to keep everyone save. It just wouldn't work. PLEASE don't think you can "fix this". I had dogs for 50 years and been doing pit bull rescue for 10. He would be fine with, even love having a companion (especially female and/or larger than him and not too playful), but you would have to keep them seperated whenever you leave the house. I have seen this too often, once he killed the cat, something changed and you will NEVER be able to trust him about this ever again. .
If you are interested, I will have a few questions for you and there will be an adoption contract. Mateo is up to date on his shots, HW meds and neutered.
