Story
Roscoe is a goofy, cuddly 1 year old 55lb Shiba Inu/German Shepherd mix. He was found on the streets of Houston as a young puppy with his brother, Tobi, who has since been adopted. Life on the streets was evidently very rough on him, because he came to us extremely scared and undersocialized. When we first got him and his brother, they wouldn't even come up to us but now Roscoe happily comes to beg for our attention! Roscoe has come so far in his progress of becoming more confident, and now has no problem coming to ask for pets. He gets very excited to see familiar people and receive affection from them, even to the point where he quite literally jumps for joy! He is still shy around new people, but he has made steady improvements and now warms up pretty quickly. Roscoe loves being around other dogs and looks up to dogs who are older than him for approval and comfort. He particularly loves one of our other adoptable dogs, Salt, and acts like an excitable little puppy around him which is the cutest thing ever! Roscoe really shows his cuddly side when he warms up to you. He's quite the homebody and couch dweller and is content to just lay around with you all day long. He loves going on short walks and is good on a leash. Roscoe does seem to have some anxiety in the crate when left alone for long periods of time, but this is lessened when he has canine friends to accompany him. He does have some trouble holding his bladder when he's kenneled for longer than 2-3 hours due to a previous lifestyle he had with a former foster, so his potty training is a work in progress. For that reason and just for his enjoyment, we think that he would do best with someone who is able to be home with him more often than not. Roscoe would thrive best in a semi-active home with at least one other dog. Since he feels most secure and happy when he's around other dogs, this is a requirement to be considered for potential homes. (You could even adopt his friend, Salt, along with him!) Roscoe does well with older kids and would make a great playmate and family companion. He is relatively low energy and prefers to just cuddle over playing! Roscoe is located in Houston TX but can be transported to most US states for adoption.

Story
Description McCarty is a red poofy furrball with gold undertones who looks like and has the character of a Shiba Inu, but is bigger. Knows his name and is very smart. Personality McCarty is a loverboy who gives gentle kisses, and would be happy to receive your caresses the whole day long. He wants affection and if he sees your hand or your lap he positions his head in an accessible way for you to most easily stay in physical touch him. He is not a velcro dog and loves to go into his crate for quiet time by himself, but if he sees you giving attention to another dog he comes running! Don't forget to pay him attention too or will get jealous. Shiba Inus are not known for being especially cuddly, but McCarty smashes that stereotype. He can be stubborn like a Shiba Inu though. He stares up at you with his big brown eyes to encourage you not to stop with the pets. You won't want to stop bc he has the softest fuzziest ears and fur. His finders said he is a sweet guy, who would eat gently out of your hand when he lived on the street. He is also smart and obedient and knows his Background McCarty was found outside of an industrial business on the NE side of Houston off McCarty street. He was a stray there for a few weeks in the middle of a cold snap in winter. Employees gave him a covered box with blankets as the best they could do for him. The daughter of his finders is a vet who got him vaccinated and transfered him to a GNAR foster home. He was skinny and beat up and had deep lacerations from dog fights. He needed a long recovery time with his foster home to heal his wounds and learn to trust other dogs again. He now loves to play and wrestle with other dogs and welcomes new females and fixed male dogs without hesitation. He is still scared of new intact male dogs who have not been neutered, but will come around to being best friends after being properly introduced. Compatibility Other Dogs - yes Cats - probably Kids - Most Please contact GNARHouston@gmail.com if interested in meeting her

Story
If you’re looking for a young, fun loving energetic new family member, Diane may be just what you need in your life. Diane’s estimated date of birth is February 10, 2024. The shelter listed Diane as a lab, but we think she has basenji and boxer traits. Whatever she is, she is C U T E. Diane has a curious personality and loves exploring the world around her. She likes playing in water from the hose and enjoys floating in the pool her foster home. We don’t know what happened early in Diane’s life. What we do know is that our local shelter put out a plea for two pups with broken bones who needed crate rest. Active Paws Rescue quickly stepped up for both. We named them Jack and Diane. Jack had a broken front paw and recovered with limited activity and rest. Diane’s case was a little more complicated. She had breaks in both back legs. Her left tibia had a nonunion that was acting like a hinge. Her right femur was misaligned and needed surgical repair. Her incredible surgeon has released her to full activity and doesn’t expect any complications. Diane is fully vetted and has started her house training. She is doing well in her kennel but will need supervision to be successful in her new home. Diane will do best in a home with a fenced yard and a dog with a similar activity level.
