Story
Hi everyone, my name is now Miu, which means “beautiful” in Japanese. I was released from a puppy mill, and I am a one-and-a-half-year-old female Shiba Inu. DC SIR was surprised that I am so young because I have very bad teeth. I have some crooked teeth and I am missing several teeth including canines. DC SIR said they will pay for all my dental needs to ensure that I am in tip-top shape before my furever family adopts me. Despite my dental issues, I am a happy, smart, and outgoing Shiba Inu! I will follow you everywhere you go – from outside chores to indoor chores. I learned the dog door on my first day at Shiba HQ! I get along with all the dogs and cats at Shiba HQ! I also come running when my foster mom calls out to me in a sing-song voice! I love to be pet and even though I have obviously been bred and recently had puppies, I am so happy to be in a home! I also started sleeping in my dog bed which is so comfy and soft! DC SIR thinks I can go to just about any home because of my wonderful personality! I have had a rough start to life, never knowing the comforts of living in a home, having my own toys or being able to run free on soft grass. I am so happy and grateful to be free of a life in a puppy mill. DC SIR couldn’t get an earlier vet appointment than March for my dental, but they said you can go ahead and apply to adopt me now! I will be fully vetted and ready for you as soon as I have all my medical needs taken care of. I hope that I can live without fear and with a family to love. Story
Hi everyone, my name is now Tanuki, and I am named after the cute and chubby Japanese raccoon dog who is also part of Japanese folklore. I am a 13-year-old male Shiba Inu. I was surrendered to a VA shelter with my younger Shiba mix sister at the beginning of February when my owners became homeless. I was so scared because I had never been in a shelter. I didn’t understand why I was in this place. So many dogs were yelling for their family to get them. I screamed for my family too, but no one came for us. After a week, my sister and I started to lose hope of ever finding our way home. But around that time, the shelter contacted DC SIR. They felt so bad for us and asked their fans to help raise funds for our care. You see, I have arthritis, hypothyroidism, and I have heart arrhythmia that is made worse by my obesity, and the vet said I might need a pacemaker. DC SIR is going to work on getting me healthy with nutrient-dense foods and a healthy lifestyle and then follow up to see if I still need a pacemaker. When the volunteers picked me up at the shelter, I was happy to be out of my cage and get pets while we waited for my sister to get out of surgery. On the long drive to Shiba HQ I was really scared and screamed a bit. We arrived at Shiba HQ late at night. I was happy to be in a yard! I was put into my xpen with my sister and slept until morning. I got to meet all the dogs and cats at Shiba HQ and I get along with everyone! My foster mom at first had to carry me up the stairs but I can do it on my own now after losing a little weight! Story
Hi everyone, my name is now Stella. I am an 11-year-old female Shiba Inu mix. I have only ever known one home my whole life. But all that changed when my family became homeless, and my brother and I were brought to a shelter. We were so scared and didn’t understand why we couldn’t be in our home. There were so many other dogs crying out for the families they lost. We cried too, but no one came for us. After a week, we got news that DC SIR was making room and raising funds for our care. I had an eye injury with an enlarged eye that DC SIR had removed before coming into foster care. I am obese too and haven’t had much medical care. While I can walk up and down stairs, DC SIR thinks I will be much more mobile after losing weight. On the day of my surgery, DC SIR volunteers drove all day to ensure I had a safe transport to Shiba HQ. They waited with my brother until I was out of surgery. I made it out ok and I got to ride in a crate while my brother was scared and cried out at the beginning of our drive. I was zonked out from my pain pills. It was late when we arrived at Shiba HQ so we pottied and went to sleep. In the morning, we got to explore the yard and house. I was still nervous but happy to be in a home with familiar surroundings, soft beds, couches, and sounds. By the end of the day, I was so happy!! I follow my foster mom everywhere and give her kisses for saving us. DC SIR will help us feel better and ensure that my brother and I stay together! We will never be in a shelter again! I am so thankful for my new life where I will get the care to ensure I can be healthy! Location: Exception Dogs: Yes Cats: Yes Kids: Yes Weight 28.6 lbs Age: 11 years old Considerations: Senior. Story
Circe is 4! She is so adorable! She loves greeting you in the morning after you get up! She loves trying to help you drink your coffee! She is playful at times but she is also lazy. Shes a big couch potato and loves cuddles! She does have some fall seizures related to allergies and is on medicine for that. She does not play well with small or less dominant dogs. no dog or cat household required. She requires a fenced in yard. She is the light of my life but isn’t playing well with others in my house! Please give her a new safe place!
