Story
One of these ears is not like the other...Vincent Van Go-Go is a gorgeous male Shih Tzu. He is 8-years old, and overweight at 16-pounds. When he was picked up as a stray, he was very matted. Once trimmed, it became evident that he has one beautiful blue eye. He also had a "fake ear. His left ear canal is normal, but he has no ear flap on that side. It makes him unique and special, and it doesn't affect his hearing. When his hair grows back, you can even let him grow a new "fake ear if you prefer. No one will even notice. :) Vince likes other dogs and calm people. He is a food hound, and will need to be fed separately from any other pets. Maybe we should have named him Hoover?? Vince also cries for attention in the cutest of ways. He sounds like a mix of a baby and a small cat. It is very endearing. Vince likes cars, walks, and is okay in a crate. Please apply here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog His minimum adoption donation amount is $275. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, heart worm checked, and on flea/tick and heart worm preventatives. We are located in Bloomington, IL We do not ship, you would need to travel to pick up your babies if you live out of state. Your current pets must be up-to-date on core vaccines, spayed/neutered, and on heart worm prevention year round. You must be at least 21-years-old to adopt. Please have your veterinarian and two non-family reference phone numbers ready. The app makes you start all over if you leave the page to look up numbers. From all of his scratching, be how looks to have the ears of a professional boxer. But, he doesn't let that get him down. He accepts his ear meds with no issue, and he can ear just fine. His little ears just give him more character. Not that he needs help with being adorable! Chewy is okay with other dogs, rides well in the car, can be crated, and enjoys short walks or romps in a fenced yard. An added bonus is that he is shed free. :) If you would like Chewy to be your new family member, please apply today! Story
Hi, my name is Bernardo; my foster mom calls me Bernie for short. I want to take a little time to brag on myself and tell you more about me: I am a really good boy, I'm potty trained and crate trained, and I get along with my foster siblings really well (they are all canines); I've met my foster mom's grandkids and neighborhood kids, and I like them too. I am very quiet and hardly ever bark, I love to sit on your lap and rock with you, or if you're sitting on the couch, I love to cuddle with you, and when I'm tired, I put myself to bed. I am very very handsome... I know this because my foster mom tells me this all the time, and so do her neighbors. I would love to have my own forever family to love, is that you? If so, please apply for me on Pet Central Helps website. All Pet Central animals are up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, microchipped (registration included), and current on parasite prevention. Story
Kirby is a 7-month-old (born 12/23) shih tzu/bichon, also known as “teddy bear, or shichon” He came from a place where the dogs had little human socialization. He’s made absolute leaps and bounds since being in a home! He is a champ for grooming, likes to relax on the couch for a good brushing. He does his business outside when he has some peace and quiet, as well as a minute to get comfortable on the grass. He is doing better every day on a leash, but a well-fitted harness is a must until he fully trusts and walks with you. He can be easily startled, and will jump, rear up, and try to run like the wind. The best way to approach him is calmly from the front, and underneath the chin since he doesn’t like things looming overhead. Kirby has never been aggressive, just avoidant. He is getting much more confident every day, but he will need a family with some shy dog experience and a gentle touch. Despite the odds, Kirby is a curious young man. He will melt your heart from across the room, so just scoop him up so he learns he is welcome in loving human arms. His preferred leisure activity is “snuffling” in something soft and/or crinkly. Paper is a favorite, so the kids might not be lying if the dog eats their homework! Kirby is not used to humans, but his curiosity has drawn him to the laundry basket. He has not torn any clothes, just taken them for a snuffle. He seems to enjoy cats, and totes around their small soft toys as well. Kirby is so so gentle, and a family with a middle-aged mild-mannered dog (or cat) would be a great match for him. Since he was raised around so many dogs, they bring out his most enthusiasm, but he still gets overwhelmed and shuts down a bit when it’s noisy or there’s lots of commotion. He has bravened up enough to climb some stairs on his own, and you can tell he feels so accomplished when he makes it up. He happily takes a meaty treat as a reward for his bravery and effort. I’m sure Kirby will blossom in no time once he’s home. Is it with you? His adoption fee of $300 covers his neuter, 1st vaccine, microchip with registration, and current monthly flea, tick, and heartworm preventions. Please apply at gfrpets.org/apply ##2143684##

Story
Location: Decatur, IL Emerald is a puppy mill survivor! She is still learning the ways of being a pet and adjusting to life in a home. Emerald is sometimes shy and insecure with strangers (especially men) and will bark at them. Her new family will need to understand this and take things slow when introducing new people and having guests. We recommend short visits that are positive to help her be ok with new people. Emerald has discovered all the joys of toys and likes to play with them. She spins in circles when she is happy or excited. Emerald is not sure about grass but is getting a little more comfortable with being outside. She likes to lay on the concrete in the sun. She gets along great with other dogs and will play with them, but she can also entertain herself. She is good with snuggles from people but is unsure about being picked up and will run away at first. This should get better with time and as she learns to trust. Emerald is considered a flight risk and will need a secure physical fence to keep her safe. Someone with mill dog experience is needed or another canine companion in the dog. Another dog will help her continue her studies in being a pet. Emerald's adoption fee is $375. She is spayed and current on vaccines and on monthly flea and heart worm prevention. Please visit leiashope.org for our adoption process. NOTE: WE ARE A VOLUNTEER RAN ORGANIZATION AND OUR APPLICATION PROCESS CAN TAKE 7-10 BUSINESS DAYS, DEPENDING ON OUR AVAILIBILITY AND YOUR REFERENCES. ALL OF OUR DOGS ARE IN FOSTER HOMES AND NOT AT A CENTRAL LOCATION. AN APPROVED APPLICATION IS REQUIRED BEFORE WE DO MEET AND GREETS. WE DO NOT SHIP OR TRANSPORT DOGS. You must come to the location of the dog to meet and adopt. NO EXCEPTION. All family members and dogs must be present at the meet. Dogs are a commitment for THEIR lifetime. For puppies this could be 15 years. If YOU cannot commit to the lifetime of the DOG, please do not apply. Puppies under 9 months must go to a home where there is someone home frequently (works from home or a partner is home), can adequately socialize and train the puppy, and can keep up with puppy energy!
