Story
Meet Fredricks !! This guy is a total ham. He is adorable and super fun loving. A really good boy. We cant figure out why someone would neglect and dump such a wonderful little guy. He came to us from the shelter where he was so matted,he couldn’t be touched without nipping at people due to the pain the mats in his fur were causing him. We had him immediately groomed and not only does he look like a proper gentleman now, he feels so so so much better!! Fredericks is said to be an approx. 8-year-old Shih Tzu mix. He acts like he is way younger and is a fun spunky guy. He currently weighs 11 pounds and is full grown. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccines as part of his adoption. He is heartworm negative. This boy is always jumping up on your leg to get some attention. He follows you everywhere and is such a joyful little guy. He likes to be carried around and do anything you are doing. He has no problem barking at “intruders” coming into the home and giving a valiant home defense effort from the safety of the couch. LOL. He was adopted and returned for biting the female in the home. It seems he was incredibly bonded to the husband, a calmer laid back and quiet guy. The wife would attempt to remove him from the husbands lap. He would growl and finally bit her. He needs a home with people willing to respect his boundaries. Overall he prefers a calmer more laid back home. He’s fine with other dogs and people he just likes what he likes and can be grumpy when pushed past that. Due to him now having a bite on his history we have changed him to no kids to be safe. Fredricks has been good with dogs of all sizes. He will get growly with them if they are too much for him but he has a good patience level prior to that. He was initially overly excited to meet a cat but settled in and wasn’t aggressive toward the cat at all. We found out at his grooming appointment that he does have an issue with nipping if someone tries to grab his back leg. The vet said his hip has some arthritis and that’s likely the cause. He so far has not had any issues with being picked up or held it seems to solely be the intentional reach or grab of that back leg. Fredrick is crate trained but can be vocal at times while inside the crate. He really likes to be with his people and will protest if he can see you while he is in there. He walks fairly well on a leash. He can pull a bit when excited but nothing too hard to manage. He has done fineon all the car rides he has been on. He doesn’t seem to really like them but just lays on the floorboard and does not get sick. He is mostly potty trained. He does not have any regular potty accidents inside however he does some leg lifting/marking inside still. He was just neutered which will hopefully resolve that with time. He has no problem wearing a belly band to help with that inside until he learns to stop doing it. He’s had no trouble sharing food, treats or toys with humans. He’s been grumbly with other dogs trying to take his toys or approaching his food to quickly but so far it hasn’t escalated past that. He listens fairly well and is learning more and more each day. He is a dog that will get under your feet while following you around so if you are an unstable walker he may not be the best fit. Overall Fredrick is a great little dog. He is both active and cuddly. A good mix of both. He is spunky and always ready to go where ever you want to go. He is glued to his people and wants to be involved in everything going on in the home. He will make someone a wonderful companion! 📌📌He will need regular grooming. This requires time to get him to and from the appointments and additional expenses to pay for it. On average a dog of this breed will need grooming every 6 weeks. This should be fully considered prior to applying to adopt him. ➡️Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 2 hour drive radius) ‼️Please message the Village Dog Resource Facebook Page or villagedogresource@gmail.com directly with questions or to get an application.‼️

Story
Meet Angelina !! It’s always the little ones that make for the fun posts lol. She needs the right home willing to allow her time to settle in and feel safe. If you push her in the first few days she can and will bite you. If you’re patient you’ll have the most loyal and loving dog. She came to us with daughter Zahara (who was already posted and pending adoption) They were both infested with fleas causing hair loss and very under socialized. Angelina is a approx 4 year old female Shih tzu. She currently weights 11 pounds and is full grown. She will be spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines as part of her adoption. She is heartworm negative. She did have to be toweled at the vet so make sure you have a vet willing to handle spunky ones. As we said already Angelina is a fear biter. She takes a few days to a week to fully trust anyone new. If you push it she will bite you. Once she realizes you’re safe she becomes very sweet and loving. She will however not like your house guests or new people she meets. You need to fully understand that about her. We don’t know what she’s been through but she’s not a social dog. She will be you and your immediate family in the homes best friend, and likely continue to distrust anyone else. This is who she is. If she progresses past it then great, but to adopt her you must accept that she may never change. Despite her fear her training isn’t to bad. She has been very easy to have in the home so far. She is very quiet and will sleep in her kennel all night. She is potty trained to pee pads and has also started to go outside as well. We would suggest always providing the pads to help with accidents as that’s what she’s used to. She did fine in the car rides she’s taken. We haven’t attempted leash training with her yet. She needs a fenced yard given that you can’t grab for her to leash her until she likes you. Angelina has done fine with other dogs but is cautious of them at first. Dogs that leave her alone would be the best match. She’s not really looking for a playful dog in her face. We are not sure how she would do with cats but she would prob be fine. Kids are a tough one, initially we would have said flat out no. That was before she formed a bond with the Foster’s daughter. HOWEVER, the Foster’s child is a unique kid. She’s very calm and quiet and very dog savvy. They have an adorable relationship but that’s not likely going to be the case for most kids. If your child does something to scare her she will bite them. If your child has friends coming over to play that mess with her she will bite them. We would only consider sending her to a home with an older calm child in certain circumstances. It would be better for her to go to an adult only home with adults understanding of her needs. She has had no trouble sharing food, treats or toys with other dogs or humans. She so far has a fairly low energy level. She likes to sit on the back of the couch and watch everything. When she starts to feel comfortable she will play with you. You need to take it slow. She can get scared easily and try to bite for awhile. If you are wiling to give her space and time to adjust you will get an awesome companion. If you’re antisocial she will definitely help you fend off pesky friends and neighbors lol. ➡️Vet and home checks required. ➡️ Fenced yard needed due to her initial fear biting. Located in Hampton VA. (She will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius) ‼️Please message the Village Dog Resource Facebook Page directly or VillageDogResource@gmail.com with questions or to get an application.‼️

Story
Meet Ernie – A Senior Shih Tzu Who Will Melt Your Heart! 🐾 Name: Ernie 🐾 Age: Senior (approx. 10+ years) 🐾 Breed: Shih Tzu 🐾 Gender: Male 🐾 Personality: Affectionate, calm, and sweet Ernie may be a senior, but his heart is full of love, and he’s ready to share it with the right family. This sweet Shih Tzu has a gentle, easy-going nature and loves to be around people. Though Ernie is hard of hearing and doesn't see very well, it doesn’t slow him down one bit! In fact, his wonderful personality shines even brighter because of it. He’s a calm and affectionate dog who thrives on companionship and enjoys the simple pleasures in life. What Ernie Needs in His Forever Family: A Quiet, Loving Home: Ernie thrives in a calm environment where he can relax and feel safe. He’s perfect for a family or individual who can provide a peaceful, stable routine. Companionship: Ernie loves people and gets along beautifully with other calm dogs. If you have another dog who enjoys a slower pace and quiet moments, Ernie would be delighted to have a buddy! Lots of Attention: Ernie may not be able to hear much or see clearly, but he sure knows when you're near! He loves spending time with his humans and will follow you around for affection and companionship. He’ll be your best friend through and through. Special Considerations: Hard of Hearing & Limited Vision: Due to his age, Ernie has some hearing and vision loss. He may not respond to vocal cues, but he’s still very aware of his environment and the people around him. He’ll likely rely more on touch and scent to get around. Calm, Low-Energy Lifestyle: Ernie’s ideal day involves plenty of naps, gentle walks, and lots of cuddling. He’s not looking for a high-energy household but rather a quiet and comfortable place where he can enjoy his golden years. Health and Care: As a senior dog, Ernie will need regular veterinary check-ups to ensure he stays comfortable and happy in his later years. He’s looking for a family who can provide gentle care, love, and patience. Ernie may not see or hear like he used to, but he has so much love to give. If you’re looking for a loyal, easy-going companion who will fill your heart with joy, Ernie might be the perfect fit for you! Ready to meet Ernie? Come give this sweet boy the loving home he deserves.

Story
Hello, Suga is a 4.6lb purebred Shih Tzu. She was born on October 22, 2024. I got her on December 27th thinking that I was ready for another dog and for my 4 year old Bichon/shih tzu male. I’ve become really busy in the new year with mentoring, church, and my sorority and realized that I do not have the time or patience to train another dog. She’s become better with potty training on the training pads but still has lots of accidents where I find myself cleaning all evening. She does go potty outside. I just took Suga to the vet at Banfield on 1/20 for another round of vaccines. She is due again on 2/16. She is not spayed yet. The vet said around 6months old she can be. She’s very lively and spicy! She loves to eat and most of all she loves to play. She comes with a lot of initial puppy things (crate, bowls and mats, shampoo and brush, harness and leash, food, vaccines and she can be AKC registered) she also is microchipped. I have videos of her playing if you’d like to see!
