Story
Two things are happening in this clip... 1) she is allowing more contact with less uncertainty 2) we finally placed a collar on her and it went very smoothly A third thing is also happening that we want you to take note of: her body language. She is licking her lips every minute or so and you can see her do it, here. That can be submission but, in her case, we believe it is nervousness. She is unsure about the casual contact. She has not be engaged with eye contact the last week. You will see, however, she is making it, now. She isn't entirely avoiding of eye contact, after a week of work!! We have respected her and asked permission for most of the intrusions we have made. Trust building. Thank God our friends at MCAS asked us to consider her. They really do go above and beyond to help the animals that find themselves at the shelter. We love and respect our partners at the county animal shelter and we can only hope the rest of the community truly appreciates the blood, sweat and tears these folks pour into their jobs! We digress... Momma dog is learning trust and that was our first order of business. She needs a name and we have yet to work on leash. This has been baby steps. Each day we sit inside the van with her (secure and cool, away from the chaos of the house and not on the dirt). It's super uncomfortable but it's the only way to find air conditioned seclusion. It's also super inconvenient to have to move her around in the 36 inch crate like Hannibal Lecter... but we won't put the puppy at risk for Parvo and we won't rush things with the leash. It took us 8 days to get the collar on and the leash will take patience, as well. She had the lead clipped, today. But that was too much, too soon. She hasn't offered to bite us and trusts us with her baby. She eats gently from our hand and is allowing touch over most of her body, without reaction. She hasn't acted aggressively toward the cat, either. We are optimistic that she will turn a corner in her rehab and learn to relax. She is ready for the right foster home... and she comes with a bonus puppy!  Ocala FL ##1852804##

*By appointment only. I do NOT go to PetSmart adoption events. Hi, my name is Penny! I am a sweet, happy girl who is looking for the perfect person to snuggle with. Being around 16 pounds, I’m the perfect size to share the couch with you! My favorite things in the world are warm blankets, squeaky balls, and sunbathing. I’m smart, too, and know some tricks and how to walk nicely on a leash. I’m crate trained and will sleep quietly in my crate if you have to leave to do your human chores. I’m housebroken, although I will sometimes have an accident if I’m not crated when left alone. I love getting attention, but I don’t like sharing the spotlight, so I must go to a home without any children or other pets.

Story
*By appointment only. I do NOT go to PetSmart adoption events. Hello, my name is Adelaide and I’m a 5 year old Jack Russel/chihuahua/rat terrier mix (in that order for percentages). I am sweet, smart, and sassy in the best possible way! I am crate trained, walk well on leash, and I don’t pee in the house more than once a month (hehe, sorry I am 25% chihuahua). I know multiple commands including- sit, lay down, stay, crate, potty, “watch me”, and even how to freeze with a treat on my nose until I get the all clear to swipe it! Don’t let my small size fool you, I am over 66% working breeds and have tons of energy! I require 1-2 hours of daily exercise with ample mental stimulation. I can do some really cool stuff like follow an agility course, play fetch, solve puzzles, and run beside humans while they skate. In true Jack Russel/chihuahua fashion, I am territorial and bark when people visit so expect some noise. I happily live with a senior cocker spaniel but I can be fearful of energetic, larger pups and will often run away and growl/snap if cornered. In spite of my reactivity, I really do enjoy living in a pack and would love a dog friend to share a home with. I am comfortable coexisting with cats though my hunting genes can get the best of me, causing me to chase. Ideally, I’d like to live somewhere with a large yard where I can get my zoomies out and explore. I’m also a big cuddler and desire a home where I get daily, quality time with my person. I often do a happy dance and run to the couch when asked if I want snuggles (bonus points if you have a blanket for me to burrow under). Due to my breed mix and selective reactivity, I would do best in home with older children and an active, experienced adopter. If you are that person and want a lifetime of laughs, adventures, and hugs- please apply!
