Story
Meela is a sweet and petite 40-pound hound mix who made her way to us from southern Virginia. At about a year old, she's a super-friendly, affectionate pup who loves meeting new people and playing with dogs and children of all ages. Since arriving in her foster home north of Boston, Meela has settled in beautifully. Her foster describes her as an absolute treasure - easy-going, curious, intelligent, snuggly and always ready for fun. She enjoys hiking, sniffing, playing with her toys and being with her people. Meela is housebroken, does well in her crate overnight, and is getting the hang of leash walking. She loves field trips in the car! She would love a fenced yard to explore, but is perfectly happy adventuring on a tie out cable. If you're looking for a loving, playful, and loyal companion, Meela could be the perfect match for you! . If you’d like to apply to adopt, please submit an application using the link below. Story
Trooper and Luther were seized by animal control after being found abandoned and living on chains without food for several weeks. They were underweight and in bad shape. They've now been vetted and have received adequate food and some TLC at a local boarding place. An NECR volunteer visited them and reports that they seem very well adjusted and not at all stressed. Both are loving and seemed pretty calm. Both are comfortable with being handled around face and head. They do need experience with leash walking and do pull but are easily corrected. Trooper has hygromas (fluid in joint areas) on hocks and elbows from years of sitting on pavement and hard ground, but they do not seem to bother him. Trooper is 7 - 9 yrs old and weighs about 45 lbs. Arriving in Massachusetts in early April. If you’d like to apply to adopt, please submit an application using the link below. Story
Meet Fred: The Ultimate Bonus Dog!Fred was adopted recently in New England - sadly his adopter has had a few tough life issues thrown at him so we need to bring Fred back into the fold and find him a foster home and hopefully an adoptive home too - maybe you could start as one and end with the other.Originally, Fred showed up emaciated, dehydrated, and in rough shape—but don’t let that fool you. This guy is house-trained, non-destructive, and shockingly polite (even before he was neutered).✔️ Sleeps through the night without a peep✔️ Respects baby gates & “quiet time”✔️ Gets along with cranky senior dogs (a rare skill!)✔️ No shoe-chewing, remote-eating, or sock-stealingFred does have a strong appreciation for food—after all, he was once starving. He’s not a resource guarder, but if given the chance, he will attempt a pantry heist. A little training (and a no-pull harness) will help with his leash manners and counter-surfing ambitions.Fred loves being inside but needs a yard with a secure fence—not chain-link (he’s a climber). Apartment life could work if he gets plenty of exercise. This handsome Walker is the total package—sweet, smart, and ready to be someone’s best friend. Story
Bogey was adopted from a rescue in North Carolina in 2020 after being rescued from an unfortunate home. He is house broken, walks very well on leash heeding commands of heel and sit, and has generally been a great addition to our family. But we noticed some aggressive behavior centered around resource guarding and his sleeping area. He has had a few instances of biting/snapping when anyone encroaches on his food or startles him while he is sleeping. We have 3 young children, one of which was bitten in an incident last year when she startled him while he was sleeping. Since then we have been very apprehensive about letting our little ones play with him. We had another incident not too long ago where Bogey was trying to eat our other dogs food, and when we intervened he again got aggressive and tried to bite. So we have made the difficult decision to rehome him. In our opinion he would be best suited in a single dog household, with no young children under the age of 10.
