Story
Meela is a sweet and petite 40-pound hound mix who made her way to us from southern Virginia. At about a year old, she's a super-friendly, affectionate pup who loves meeting new people and playing with dogs and children of all ages. Since arriving in her foster home north of Boston, Meela has settled in beautifully. Her foster describes her as an absolute treasure - easy-going, curious, intelligent, snuggly and always ready for fun. She enjoys hiking, sniffing, playing with her toys and being with her people. Meela is housebroken, does well in her crate overnight, and is getting the hang of leash walking. She loves field trips in the car! She would love a fenced yard to explore, but is perfectly happy adventuring on a tie out cable. If you're looking for a loving, playful, and loyal companion, Meela could be the perfect match for you! . If you’d like to apply to adopt, please submit an application using the link below. Story
Trooper and Luther were seized by animal control after being found abandoned and living on chains without food for several weeks. They were underweight and in bad shape. They've now been vetted and have received adequate food and some TLC at a local boarding place. An NECR volunteer visited them and reports that they seem very well adjusted and not at all stressed. Both are loving and seemed pretty calm. Both are comfortable with being handled around face and head. They do need experience with leash walking and do pull but are easily corrected. Trooper has hygromas (fluid in joint areas) on hocks and elbows from years of sitting on pavement and hard ground, but they do not seem to bother him. Trooper is 7 - 9 yrs old and weighs about 45 lbs. Arriving in Massachusetts in early April. If you’d like to apply to adopt, please submit an application using the link below. Story
Bogey was adopted from a rescue in North Carolina in 2020 after being rescued from an unfortunate home. He is house broken, walks very well on leash heeding commands of heel and sit, and has generally been a great addition to our family. But we noticed some aggressive behavior centered around resource guarding and his sleeping area. He has had a few instances of biting/snapping when anyone encroaches on his food or startles him while he is sleeping. We have 3 young children, one of which was bitten in an incident last year when she startled him while he was sleeping. Since then we have been very apprehensive about letting our little ones play with him. We had another incident not too long ago where Bogey was trying to eat our other dogs food, and when we intervened he again got aggressive and tried to bite. So we have made the difficult decision to rehome him. In our opinion he would be best suited in a single dog household, with no young children under the age of 10.

Story
Meet Wonton, a Treeing Walker Coonhound puppy who’s on the lookout for his dream family! This adorable guy has big shoes (or paws) to fill—both of his parents were hardworking hunting dogs, but Wonton is ready to leave that path behind and step into a life filled with love, play, and companionship.Wonton has already shown his curious, intelligent side, and with that keen nose, he’s eager to explore every corner of the yard and sniff out all the exciting scents the world has to offer. He’ll be happiest with a family who enjoys outdoor adventures and can keep up with his active, hound-like energy. He loves people and other dogs, and he’s quickly growing into a friendly, social guy who’s always ready for a cuddle and a nap after playtime. Because of his high prey drive, he cannot live with cats. He’ll need some guidance as he learns the ropes of family life—introducing him to basic commands and some structure will help him grow into his best self. Wonton is ready for a family that can provide not only love but also mental stimulation and time to enjoy the outdoors. This wonderful hound-boy has the makings of an incredible companion, one who will fill your home with joy, laughter, and plenty of tail wags.If you are interested in meeting Wonton please visit our adoption center located at 101 West Swanzey Rd. We are open 11-3 Thursday through Sunday.
