Story
Luca is a sweet 5 year old hound. He was rescued with 20 other dogs by Richmond animal control when he was 4 months old. He suffered with a lot of anxiety which caused some reactive behavior. Luca and I have done extensive training and he has made a lot of progress. He has a trainer for life with James River Dog Training. He is a very sweet boy that has a lot of energy and loves long walks. I recently had a baby and Luca is in need of a home without small kids and an owner with experience with dogs with a more dominate personality. He loves other dogs and to play. He is a good boy just needs to find a home that will fit his needs.

Gabby’s owner passed away and she found herself in need of a new home. She’s about 4 yrs old, 45-50 lbs, but could use a diet. Gabby is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. She’s a nice, medium sized hound. We’re not sure how she is with other dogs, but we think she lived around cats. Please call 804-966-9500 to meet her.

He’s put on weight and he loves to eat. Traxx is a sweetheart of a hound dog who would love you to teach him all about the pampered doggie life inside a home. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.UPDATE 11/12/24:Here is what his foster mom has to say:Splash is one amazing boy. He is very playful and loves to run around with his canine foster siblings in the fenced in yard. He is gentle with children of all ages and doesn't seem to mind cats either. Splash is house, crate and potty trained, great in the car, loves couch cuddles or just follow you around in the house. He is overall a well rounded dude and such a joy to have around.Splash is a bit scared of new things and noises so he will need more socialization in public. He walks very well on the leash and loves to go to places otherwise. His dad's DNA of a Treeing Walking Coonhound definitely shines through although his mom was 100% Pit Bull. He has inherited the best of both breeds. Did I say that he has the softest fur ever?Whoever ends up adopting Splash will be one lucky family.UPDATE 9/21/24:Splash was returned to our rescue to no fault of his own. He is house and crate trained, fantastic in the car and gets along well with other dogs.More information will be available as he settles into his foster home.Splash is a puppy with the best “pet me puppy dog eyes”. He will happily play outside or with his canine foster siblings then curl up with his foster mom to nap.  She tells us if you rub behind his ears, you’ll be sure to put Splash to sleep. Splash is highly food motivated and uses his sense of smell to his advantage. He will do anything for peanut butter. Splash knows how to sit and is crate trained. He will fuss at first but quickly calms down.  Splash is good with children. His foster home does have a cat and he sometimes needs reminders to be gentle.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 17, 2025, 10:53 pm

Story
Meet Rudolph, He was days away from being put to sleep at a high kill shelter in North Carolina! This handsome guy was discarded as a hunting dog and left for animal control to pick him up running loose, without a place to call home. When no one came forward Rudolph quickly found himself on the urgent list. To make matters worse, Rudolph was heartworm positive. Thanks to a very dedicated foster family, Rudy's life was spared. They agreed to take him in until he found a good home. His heartworms have been treated and he is well on his way to recovery! While in foster care, the family discovered he is a very sweet boy and enjoys laying around in his dog bed. He also enjoys the great outdoors, so a fenced in backyard would be ideal for him to safely enjoy some fresh air! We recommend Rudolph go to a home without other dogs or dog's that are dominant like him. He is NOT aggressive with other dogs; he just likes to be the boss. He will need an understanding family that can work with him! We don't think this hound dog should go to a home with cats. If you are interested in this beautiful boy, please submit an application to be contacted! His foster home is currently located in North Carolina, but arrangements will be made for an approved adopter. APPLY HERE: https://form.jotform.com/230176841172150

Story
Meet Jody, a resilient and loving 8-year-old Treeing Walker Hound mix who is ready to start the next chapter of his life. Despite a rough past, Jody's heart still remains full of love. Before coming to us, Jody endured abuse and even suffered burns on his snout from the hands of his owner. But this brave boy's spirit is unbroken, and his scars have healed beautifully, giving him a truly one-of-a-kind face to match his soul. Jody is the definition of sweetness- he gets along wonderfully with all animals and people, winning over everyone he meets with his gentle nature. While he was likely kept fully outdoors in his past life, since being with us, Jody has loved being an indoor doggy. Jody is ready to retire from being the "old running" hound to a couch potato. Jody is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines, meaning he is ready to join your family now! Apply for Jody at https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HPAW/Dog
