Story
Ruger is a two-year-old purebred Weimaraner who is affectionate, curious, enthusiastic, and energetic. He's a typical Weimaraner in that he wants to be with his human pack at all times. Introductions to new people must be slow as he has had limited socialization outside of his home environment. Ruger is dog door and crate trained. He recently attended a few training sessions and has been learning some commands that he has yet to master. He is learning to go to his place (bed) and stay there and come when called off of his place. He is learning to go into his crate, which is called "Home. He is starting to understand what "leave it means. Ruger must be crated at night because he is very curious. He is able to get into cabinets and drawers so it's best to puppy proof and watch him or he can chew and get into trouble. A lot of exercise and stimulation helps keep him calmer. He does tend to jump up on people so care must be taken around elderly and small children. Ruger is very strong and needs to be adopted by someone who can handle his strength. Ruger will play a little with toys, but he needs human encouragement to play or another dog to play with. Although, he can be a bit of a bully and an alfa with submissive dogs. He has a high prey drive so no cats. Because of his energy level, he needs a large, fenced yard or daily walks and weekend hikes. He loves walks but pulls and walks best when using a slip leash. He is reactive and selective. He will bark if he sees another dog on a walk and often will also bark at other people. He seems to do this with men more than women. Ruger rides very well in a vehicle. He does great at Home Depot and stores where he is very stimulated. He likes water and has been swimming many times for extra exercise. He doesn't go in the pool on his own and a dog life vest was used. He is not a fan of baths, so he is bathed outside with the hose. With continued professional training, Ruger will make someone a great dog that will do anything for his forever family. Our adoption fee helps cover expenses (vaccinations, microchips, spay/neuter, food, housing) for the homeless pets we rescue. UAF does not adopt or ship outside the state of Arizona.
