Story
Rachel is an 8-year-old female dog, light in build at around 13 pounds. Similar to Ross, she is quite sociable with other dogs but notably shy and apprehensive around people. Her friendliness towards canines suggests she would do well in a home with other pets, where she can feel more at ease and less isolated. For Rachel, a calm and stable environment with patient and gentle owners would be ideal, allowing her the time and space to overcome her initial fears and gradually become more comfortable with human companionship. Her loving nature will surely come through once she feels safe and secure. ##2211364##

Story
Astor is adorable with a capital "A"! Astor is a scruffy little boy who is estimated to be around 7 years old. He is a little character who is not afraid to ask for what he wants. He loves his people and is pretty darn cute with his little walk and smile. Astor weighs about 9.5lbs. Six years ago Astor was adopted from the YCSPCA by a nice older lady who subsequently moved with Astor into a “pet-friendly” retirement community. Unfortunately, Astor did not adjust well to the move and management there determined that Astor was no longer welcome due to the defensiveness of his owner when the staff came into the apartment. So, sadly, Astor’s mom had to relinquish him so that we could find a home that was a better match for him. He’s been in a foster home since then, hanging out with his foster mom and some doggie roommates. Astor tends to be fearful, perhaps due to negative early life experiences. This causes him to be sensitive about being touched when he isn’t ready to be social. He likes to be petted but can get overstimulated and will communicate when he has had enough. After a visit to the vet, Astor is now on two anti-anxiety meds, which have helped him be much less fearful. He still can be sensitive to handling now and then but is comfortable with his foster mom rubbing his tummy, picking him up, and cuddling him on her lap for a while. Astor needs a peaceful new home that can go slow with him and win his trust so that isn’t afraid and anxious. Astor seems to prefer the company of women and takes more time to warm up to men. He will likely do best if he continues his medications. Astor would be best in an adult-only home. We don’t know how he is with cats since his foster home doesn’t have any, but he could do well living with dog-savvy cats with a slow introduction and proper supervision. Astor would like to be the only dog in his new home. Astor enjoys going for walks and will be patient with having his harness put on if it doesn’t involve a lot of fuss. He could easily keep his harness on all the time since he doesn’t mind it at all. He also likes to play with toys. Astor is house-trained, but like any male dog, it’s best to keep track of him when he’s in the house so he doesn’t mark on furniture. Surprisingly, Astor is a very quiet guy - he’ll bark at strangers at the door or gate, but is otherwise very quiet, unlike some dogs his size. Are you the right family to give Astor a peaceful new home?   Aster's adoption fee is $250.   Apply to adopt here! https://form.jotform.com/52017002013129/  Applications are also available on the website (www.yolospca.org)  It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm and started on preventatives and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. For more information about an animal, please email dogs@yolospca.org. Story
Willy is a 7 or 8 year old male Westie mix based in Sacramento. He's got all the athleticism of a terrier with the calm of middle age. Willy is a real easy guy - he'd do well with almost anyone. He is good with kids, but can be a little skittish so it would be best to avoid younger children. He's a total gentleman on a leash and is trained to use a dog door. Willy loves to snuggle on the couch and would be a great companion for someone. Willy is up to date on his vaccinations, housebroken and neutered, but he will need a dental on adoption. NAME:ThelmaSTATS:Female, Silky Terrier, 2 years, 10 lbs.TEMPERAMENT:Shy at first and warms up.Playful, but not overly so.Needs to be WITH ANOTHER dogBonded sisterSKILLSDoing great with potty training.Crate trained.Good with dogs.Likes walks, but not great for hiking.Good with cats but does chase them if runningMORE ABOUT ME:Likes belly rubs.Couch cuddler.Likes walks.Likes playing with other dogs.Suggest training (basic manners). She is somewhat stubborn; but easy to correct behaviorsONE LAST THING:Thelma likes to be her own boss. She likes to cuddle with you on the couch, Sleep in bed with you and loves her walks. If you can not find her in the house, look in the backyard. She likes to Explore and protect her surroundings from squirrels and cats. She is often looking for her sister Louise to play with or snuggle with. She likes to hang out in the office when you work from home. Thelma and Louise like to do zoomies and play together but Thelma can be a little bossy with Louise.Thelma loves her walks but is reactive to other dogs/people. From her behavior, we think she was left in the yard as you really need to make sure she has potty breaks and reward her for doing right. If you miss her cues, she will go inside.Thelma and Louise were left behind when their owner moved away. A nice Rescue lady in Stockton took them in when they saw the owner never came back for them. Sounds like they lived most of their lives in the backyard. Now they are pampered little princesses.December 28, 2024, 3:11 pm
