Story
The boy with all the rizz—that’s Grizz! Meet Grizz, the most adorable Wheaten Terrier/Corgi mix we have ever seen! At 1.7 years old, this sweet boy has lived most of his life waiting to be loved the way he so deserves. He came to us from Swainsboro, Georgia and is so excited for his second chance at forever with a family. His beautiful greyish silver coat and wiry fur look so cute with his black beard and deep brown eyes. He is fully grown at 26 pounds. Grizz is full of love and happiness, which he shows you every time you are near. He just wants to be close and give you all of his attention. He is a very playful guy and enjoys walking on a leash, which he does very well. He is a great dog for adventures to the park, romps around town, or nights in with friends. He is such a loving pup who appreciates having people around from whom he can soak up attention. Grizz is friendly with other dogs and would do great in a home with cats and kids. Grizz is a very kind, precious guy with a unique look that is equal parts cute and handsome. He is so ready to spend the rest of his days being your best friend, and he cannot wait to meet you! Grizz is neutered, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, and microchipped. Given the conditions Grizz originated from, upon rescue, he tested positive for Heartworm disease. Thanks to Home for Good Dog Rescue, Grizz has completed his Heartworm treatment. *Heartworm disease is a serious and if left untreated, fatal disease. It is caused by foot-long worms (heartworms) that live in the heart, lungs, and associated blood vessels of affected animals, causing severe lung disease, heart failure, and damage to other organs in the body. Mosquitoes are carriers of heartworms and have the ability to infect dogs all year round, especially in the Southeastern portion of the United States and during the summer months.* **Please note: completing an "adoption inquiry" via Adopt-a-pet/Petfinder does not constitute an HFG Dog Rescue adoption application. All adoption applications must be completed on www.hfgdr.org** HFG Dog Rescue is a 100 percent foster-based rescue located in Berkeley Heights, NJ with a sister location, The Almost Home Wellness Center, in Aiken, SC. All of our dogs are rescued from kill shelters in SC + GA and once ready for adoption live in loving local NJ foster homes until they find forever families of their own. Our fosters begin basic training, housebreaking, and leash-walking skills to help pair you with the perfect pup for life! Story
Jameson is a loving dog but has high anxiety. He is on meds each day that help him keep his condition controlled. However I have three teenage children that are loud, and often have friends over which raises his anxiety level to an uncontrolled state. Jameson is a very sweet dog that would do well with an older couple or someone who lives alone. He’s a great companion, and good guard dog.

Story
Always wanted to live with a real life muppet but don’t want to have to go through the hassle of hiring a puppeteer? Meet Oso, a live action walking muppet, right here. He’s even more astonishing and adorable in person. He’s a large but short scruffy mix of a little bit of everything, kind of like a wire haired basset hound, doodle, lion, and bear cub rolled into one. He’s 53lbs so really a big dog just without the legs. A gentle friendly soul, he’s always lived with other dogs though takes a few minutes to warm up to new ones, and loves being around people. He’s 9 years old and in great shape overall, well mannered and easy to fall in love with. And just look at that big honkable nose 😍 👃 🤡 Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Oso in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
I Wisher I may, I Wisher I might, I Wisher I get adopted tonight! Meet Wisher, a terrier mix who was found as a stray and transported to the open intake shelter. Since getting to the shelter Wisher has been overwhelmed and aloof, but seems to be a very calm companion when he's outside of the scary shelter! Wisher is looking to get out of the shelter and into a safe environment where we can see his true personality come out. Wisher is available for adoption at ACCT Philly. He's had good dog meets since getting to the shelter and will gladly meet your resident pup to see if he's a good fit for your home. You can meet him any day from 10am-6pm. Walks very nicely without any pulling. He did a really nice meet with Rico Suave! Rico was very excited and Wisher remained calm (a little stiff) but responding well to his approaches. Very low energy- I took him to the photoshoot and he let me put a bandana on him. Not very treat motivated but he has a URI so might not have an appetite right now. I needed help getting him back into his kennel as he froze and wouldn't walk. I got another volunteer to lasso his back side and we got him to walk forward. he took some pets from me while we waited for that volunteer to fill his water before going back in. Chill and slightly aloof boy! Per Staff 8/17/24: Wisher got out for some one on one time today! In kennel he came right up to the door to greet me with soft eyes and a neutral body. Now that Wisher is feeling a little more confident, I noticed that he has a spitz tail that curls over his back! Before he kept his tail low and straight, so I think he's feeling just a little better. He was patient for leashing and came right out once secured. Wisher is a wonderful walker, and barely pulls at all. We got out to the doggie cold club yard and he sniffed around for a few minutes. I offered him treats and even hot dogs, but he wouldn't take anything from me! He allowed some all over pets, but didn't really lean in. His eyes were soft the whole time, and body neutral. I noticed that he felt bonier than I remembered, especially around his hips and spine. I was worried he wasn't eating at all, but later when we returned I saw his food bowl empty, so he is eating. We hung out together, Wisher tolerating pets and then walking off to sniff for a few minutes. Unfortunately, a car drove by that repeatedly backfired, causing loud booming sounds that terrified poor Wisher. He cowered and ran to the gate, and would not step away. I tried to coax him back into the yard with toys and treats, but he was focused on getting out and away from the scary sound. A couple came up to the yard, waiting for an adoption meet, so we left the yard to get out of their way. Wisher did not react to them at all, and walked by them without an issue. He relaxed once we left the yard and trotted along. We took a quick break on a bench because I wanted to hang out with him a bit longer. He tolerated some more all over pets, but still didn't lean in or seek out any attention himself. However, his eyes still remained soft the whole time. When it was time to go inside Wisher returned to kennel without any issue, and watched me with soft eyes as I closed the kennel door. Per Staff 8/16/24: Wisher was out with a volunteer who said he was doing well. Aloof but allowed handling. He didn't want to walk down the row to his kennel so I looped his hind end and we were able to get him in with no issues. May benefit from moving to TTA or closer to the start of the row. Dogs were barking which made him stop walking. Per Staff 8/11/24: When passing by his kennel Wisher was lying on his bed. he glanced up when I called to him with neutral eyes, but remained lying down Per Staff 8/10/24: BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: KNOWN HISTORY: Stray KENNEL PRESENTATION: WIsher was standing near the door of his kennel when I approached. He had neutral eyes and a low tail, and stood there slightly panting. I offered him some treats and spray cheese, but he's too shutdown to take anything. I showed him the leash and he backed up a couple steps, so I lowered the divider. This scared him and he flinched and cowered. I was able to lasso him easily and he just flinched when the leash touched him. Once he was secure he came out on his own. LEASH SKILLS: Pulls minimally. We went on a short walk to give Wisher some time to adjust. He walked very nicely with a slack leash. He flinched hard at sudden sounds or movements on our walk; specifically a trash bag blew in the wind and scared him. We did a quick fence meet with welcome center dogs since his finders noted "not good with other animals. Wisher calmly sniffed the other dog with a neutral body and walked away calmly. HANDLING: In the yard Wisher kept his distance from me. I gave him lots of time to explore and adjust, offering treats periodically. He didn't take anything I had to offer, but did perk up and soften up at the sound of a squeaky toy. The joy was short lived, and he quickly went back to avoiding eye contact and keeping his distance. He did not come when called, and watched me with hard eyes when I approached him. He allowed all handling, but ignored me throughout. He would refuse to look at me, did not lean in; he was trying to get me to stop interacting with him. I backed off and he walked across the yard, looking out of the fence for a way out. Poor Wisher is very shut down, and will need lots of time to truly open up. PLAY: No interest, shut down TOYS: Perked up at a squeaky toy but it was short lived COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced blues - start on meds and see if behavior improves. Per Staff 8/9/24: Put on evaluate due to growling in the intake at a gentleman who was standing up nearby and also growling at ACA worker Taylor when she was tring to retrieve the dog out of the finders car ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia.
