She walks well on a leash, loves to play, but mostly wants a lap to enjoy. Any potential adopter should remember that Vicki will need routine grooming. Story
Location Decatur, IL Application at leiashope.org Requirement No small children under 6 living in the home. Ace is a gentle little guy that was born in a puppy mill. He was born with an underdeveloped eye and cannot see out of his left eye. He is not in any pain and he gets around fine. Ace is good with other dogs and is playful. He enjoys following after the other dogs in the yard. He is not a fan of the crate or being alone. This could change after he has time to acclimate but it may not. You can normally find Ace with the other dogs either sleeping or playing. He doesn't mind cuddles and being picked up. Due to Ace being sight impaired young children are not advised. Ace's adoption is $500. He is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines, and on monthly flea and heart worm prevention. Applications at leiashope.org. NOTE: WE ARE A VOLUNTEER RAN ORGANIZATION AND OUR APPLICATION PROCESS CAN TAKE 7-10 BUSINESS DAYS, DEPENDING ON OUR AVAILIBILITY AND YOUR REFERENCES. ALL OF OUR DOGS ARE IN FOSTER HOMES AND NOT AT A CENTRAL LOCATION. AN APPROVED APPLICATION IS REQUIRED BEFORE WE DO MEET AND GREETS. WE DO NOT SHIP OR TRANSPORT DOGS. YOU MUST COME TO THE LOCATION OF THE DOG TO MEET AND ADOPT. Dogs are a commitment for THEIR lifetime. For puppies this could be 15 years. If YOU cannot commit to the lifetime of the DOG, please do not apply. Puppies under 9 months must go to a home where there is someone home frequently (works from home or a partner is home), can adequately socialize and train the puppy, and can keep up with puppy energy!

Story
Location Decatur, IL Application at leiashope.org Requirement Must be able to commit to HIS lifetime (as much as 15 years) Shortie is a spunky little puppy that loves to play! He is go go go all day, but the evenings are made for snuggles! Shortie may be small, but he thinks he is big and has no fears about tackling the adult yorkie in the home and chasing after him. He loves toys and running around in the yard. He is a little scared of storms and loud noises. Shortie has been around small children and does well with them. Small children need to have respect for a little puppy and not carry them around or jump on them or near them. Shortie has a tendency to get under your feet and should not go to a home with someone who has mobility problems. Shortie's adoption is $550. He is not neutered as we do not neuter until 6 months. A spay/neuter contract is required and LHCR will pay the vet $200 towards the spay/neuter expense. Shortie is microchipped, current on vaccines, and on monthly flea and heart worm prevention. Applications at leiashope.org. NOTE: WE ARE A VOLUNTEER RAN ORGANIZATION AND OUR APPLICATION PROCESS CAN TAKE 7-10 BUSINESS DAYS, DEPENDING ON OUR AVAILIBILITY AND YOUR REFERENCES. Story
Please visit leiashope.org for our adoption process. Located in Decatur, IL Requirements: Secure physical fenced yard Mill dog experience or canine companion Darren is a puppy mill dog survivor that has lived in a kennel environment for his life. In spite of it all, Darren is a social little guy that likes to follow foster mom around the house. He is a little unsure of being picked up and is stiff, but with time he will relax in the arms of a person he trusts. Darren likes to be outside and run around the yard and bark at the people who pass by. In the house he doesn't bark much but is curious. When new people stop by he runs away at first but quickly comes back and after a short time he is comfortable with the new person. Darren does mark in the house and wears a belly band. Hopefully after his hormones settle down that will stop. Darren enjoys watching TV and will stand in front of the TV cocking his little head at the sounds and people inside the box! It's cute and adorable to see! Darren is considered a flight risk and will require a secure physical fenced yard. He would do best with someone who has puppy mill experience or another dog in the home. Darren's adoption is $325. He is neutered, received a dental, current on vaccines, microchipped and on monthly flea and heartworm prevention. Visit leiashope.org for next steps. PLEASE NOTE: We are a volunteer ran rescue with full time jobs. Please allow 7-10 days for application processing. All of our dogs are in foster homes and a meet and greet is done ONLY after an approved application. We do adopt out of the area. However, we do not ship or provide transportation. You must come to the location of the dog to meet and adopt. NO EXCEPTION. All family members and dogs must be present at the meet.

Story
Sir Winston Bailey came to us very ill and thin, in diabetic ketoacidosis, after the people caring for him failed to give him insulin for over a month. His owner had loved him very much, but had been hospitalized. His vet called us, as she new this dog had way too much spunk to not be treated. We have had him since May and have been making sure he gets the best of care. He is a 9 year old Yorkie, now almost 9 pounds (he was 5 lbs when we got him) and is both blind and diabetic. Because of his small size, his diabetes has been harder to control that many diabetic dogs, although he is doing much better. Any adopters must take on the cost of his care (about $300 monthly for insulin, prescription dog food, and glucose sensors, with up to $2000 in a hypoglycemic emergency), keep up his monitoring with the Univ of Illinois Internal Medicine Department at the Vet School, and keep him on strict feeding and exercise schedules. His diabetes does lead him to pee more frequently, although he is generally pretty good with puppy pads. Bailey is a wonderful dog, affectionate and brave, undaunted by all that has happened to him medically. He is down to four teeth, but he still tells off big dogs, although has been great with the dogs and cats in his foster home. He has been a favorite of all who have met him. HIs $300 adoption fee covers his many vet visits, vaccines, heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, deworming medication, and microchip registration.
