Story
Hanna is a 7 yr old burebred Yorkie. She is very sweet and has a lot of love to give. She is up to date on shots and has been spayed. She is leash trained and potty trained, although she may have an accident or two in a new place. She gets along well with other dogs and most people. She is not crazy about cats. She is still very playful and has favorite toys.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Abby Rose (pictured first) & Mackenzie (pictured second) - our newest bonded pair at Safe Haven! They came to us as their previous owner needed to move to a care center and could not take them with. Abby Rose & Mackenzie have lived together most all of their lives, so they have become very bonded to one another and dependent upon one another. Although a huge transition took place in their lives coming from a home which they lived in for many years and moving into the shelter environment - these girls have learned to LOVE all of the attention, warm laps to sit on, stroller rides around the shelter and outside (on the warmer days!), and have settled in quite well. Upon their arrival at Safe Haven, they were both brought up-to-date on their veterinary work by our veterinarian. An examination took place as they both had not been seen by a vet for a few years due to their owner's declining health. A senior blood work panel was taken from both girls to determine their state of health. We were pleased to have their blood panels results check out well - for their age. Abby Rose has a grade 4 heart murmur, she has been started on medication for this. The medication is relatively inexpensive and it helps her heart from overworking itself. She has been doing well with this medication. It was brought to our attention that Abby Rose was not spayed upon her arrival - after receiving several medical professionals opinions on this procedure for Abby Rose, it was decided to proceed with the needed spay surgery. We are very forunate this surgery took place as Abby Rose had the beginning of pyometra (infection of the uterus), which can sometimes be fatal if left untreated. Abby Rose has recovered well after her surgery day (she also had some dental cleaning done), and is loving her time spent snuggled up with her life-long companion 'sister'. Mackenzie had been spayed a few years ago due to the same condition (pyometra), so we are happy to say both girls won't have to worry about that ever again! It is noticeable in the pictures that Mackenzie is blind. She has been blind for a few years now, and gets around well with her nose and with the help of her guiding partner, Abby Rose. Not being able to see does not slow this little gal down - she does quite well finding her way around and adjusting to change, with time. Abby Rose & Mackenzie were not used to going outside for walks nor potty time. Their previous owner left potty pads out for them to use - we have done the same with them while they've been at Safe Haven, and both girls do relatively well with utilizing the pee pads. They do enjoy getting fresh air and snuffling around in the grass, but their tendency has been to utilize pee pads as that is what they have been used to most of their lives. Any future adopter(s) should expect to keep potty pads out for their use to help with comfortability and familiarity. With that being said, considering they are both senior-aged pups, their future adopter(s) should be able and ready to take on any further medical cases that may arise with these girls. They do request a warm bed to cuddle up in - maybe a warm lap too?! :) A quiet home where their 'person/people' are around often would be great for these two as they transition back into a home setting - they truly enjoy every bit of human interaction and company they can get.If you are interested in meeting Abby Rose & Mackenzie, please complete an online adoption application found on our website at www.wesavepets.com. Once the online application has been completed, a Safe Haven volunteer will be in contact to discuss the next steps. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 14, 2024, 8:43 pm

Story
T8R, affectionately known as Tater, is a charming 6-year-old Morkie (Maltese/Yorkshire Terrier) with a heartwarming tale of rescue from the brink of shelter euthanasia. Despite enduring past mistreatment, T8R, fondly called Tate, exudes sweetness once he builds a bond with you, showering you with kisses and embracing moments of being picked up. To ensure his well-being, this endearing boy seeks a tranquil and nurturing forever home where his anxieties can be understood and embraced with unwavering patience and love. While the journey of building trust with T8R may require time, his new companion will play a pivotal role in supporting him every step of the way. Ideal for T8R is a female owner, given his history of abuse from men. Environments devoid of children and large dogs are paramount, as loud noises trigger fear responses, and interactions with bigger canines can be challenging. T8R thrives in the company of friendly small dogs but may exhibit protectiveness over items due to past insecurities. He may prefer being the sole dog in the household, with occasional small dog playdates for socialization. While he shows maturity in staying alone at home and is mostly housetrained, occasional accidents may occur. T8R is still acclimating to leash walking but has shown progress under the guidance of his foster mom. Regular grooming may necessitate sedation, a process he handles well. Engaging in ball chasing brings T8R immense joy, even if returning the ball isn't his forte. While he may not be the typical lap dog, T8R's preference for sleeping next to you on the floor highlights his loyal nature.  To aid T8R in overcoming his fears, prospective adopters must commit to meeting a trainer before finalizing the adoption, ensuring a gradual and supportive transition tailored to T8R's pace. Adoptions for T8R are limited to a 50-mile radius of the Omaha/Council Bluffs area to facilitate ongoing access to the valuable training provided by our certified positive reinforcement trainer. The suggested adoption donation for T8R is $300.  We are a 501c3 organization which means that your donation may be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. Your donation goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our animals in rescue, as well as providing supportive services to animals in homes. Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application is approved, we will put you in touch with the dog’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the pet. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. If this pet is not spayed or neutered at the time of adoption due to limited vetting availability, a voucher will be given to the adopter to take the pet to be altered at NHS free of charge. Alterations are REQUIRED for all Muddy Paws adoptions. The contract states the alter must be done within ONE month of the adoption date or adopter will be in breach of contract. Adopter is required to provide proof of alter to Muddy Paws Rescue immediately after procedure complete. Thank you in advance for your compliance. Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each dog, based on the dog’s needs. If you and the dog are not a good match, we will help you select another dog, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.
