Story
This is Apheana, and she is estimated to be about 7 years old. She came into my families life by accident really, I was working on someone’s home and found her in the basement, very skinny and with serious skin issues. I offered to take her on the spot because I could see how badly she needed a home. Today, 2 years later, she’s at a healthy weight, has clear skin and gets to play. Unfortunately, I had no real plan with Apheana and my home and lifestyle has evolved and grown since she came home with me, we cannot keep up with the attention she deserves. We really hope someone can give this dog all the love she should be getting.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hi, my name is Kaia, and I came all the way from California.  While the west coast has all the sunshine,  I wanted to see how the mid-west farmers daughters lived.  All the dog volunteers at Last Hope say I am the sweetest little girl, I love to snuggle, and give tons of kisses.  I love to ride in the car and go for walks and I am super good at both! I am a very strong girl and need someone equally as strong.  I am a princess and love all the attention so I will need to be the only pet in the house.  I also need a home that has a privacy fence in case the neighbors have pets.  So if you always wished they all could be  California girls and wanted one of your own, then I am your girl.....  Kaia’s adoption fee is $250 and includes her spay, micro chip and current vaccinations. Last Hope requires that all of our animals be kept on year round heart worm preventative and as indoor dogs only. Our adoption process includes a background check, personal and vet reference checks as well as a home visit. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 19, 2024, 8:30 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Looking for a dog with a winning personality? Luckily you've found Oscar! He's a very social dog who would do best in a home where he can spend quality time with his people and at least one other accepting medium - large dog. Oscar enjoys a short daily walk and lots of plush and chew toys. He is a bit of a juggernaut who doesn't know it, and he greets everyone he meets with love and a wagging tail. He's fully house trained and nondestructive when home with his foster's other dogs unkenneled. People in the home should be teens and older due to his slightly oblivious nature and high food drive. Oscar does have some mild allergies, he' well managed with diet and seasonal allergy medication but may occasionally have some flare ups. Oscar's adoption fee is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccinations and preventatives plus a free basic obedience class at Cedar Run Company in Hiawatha. Last Hope requires that all animals be kept as indoor pets only, be altered and current on vaccinations and preventatives. We look for adopters with current and/or former pets to have a demonstrated history of this. Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a vet history check and a home visit. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 19, 2024, 8:30 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Friendly and outgoing lady Daisy B is searching for a forever home, her dream home would have a woman and children in the family as this seems to be what she gravitates most towards when we introduce her to new people! We think Daisy is a "momma dog" at heart!  We've learned that Daisy is an escape artist, she can jump a shorter fence so would be best suited to a home with a secure fence. We don't think she intends to run away, we think she just wants to be wherever you are! She can also be dog selective, so might be best suited as the only dog in the home. She has so much love to share with her people, and it's clear she will fill your home with love and laughter.  Don't pass this goofy girl up! She loves to go for walks, and although she can be strong on the leash at first she does settle in quickly.   Daisy's adoption fee is $250 and includes her spy, microchip, current vaccinations/preventatives and free basic obedience course at Cedar Run Company in Hiawatha. Last Hope requires that all animals be kept as indoor pets only, be altered and current on vaccinations and preventatives. We look for potential adopters who have current/former pets to have a demonstrated history of this. Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a vet history check and a home visit. Please submit an application for consideration through our website, www. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hi, my name is Jupiter and I can’t wait to meet you! I love everyone that comes into my home and I will make sure they know it with lots of kisses and snuggles. My favorite place to be is pressed up against someone’s leg so they don’t forget how much I love them. I am loyal to the core. The only thing I love more than my human friends is food. I love snacks and treats. I am a very smart girl and learn new commands very quickly if you offer me a treat for it. I take medicine every day which makes me happy because that means I get a piece of cheese or some yummy peanut butter to hide it in. De-lish!  Since I am a brilliant girl, I love brain puzzles that keep me from getting bored. Sometimes when I am bored I chew on things that aren’t mine, but I’m willing to learn not to. I like squishy rubber toys better than hard ones. I don’t like kennels but if you let me sleep in bed with you, you won’t hear an objection from me. I love people, but dogs make me nervous.  I would do best if I were your only furry bestie. Loud noises also frighten me like big trucks. I am very skilled at walking on a leash when given clear guidance. I had surgery on my back leg that left me with pins and a plate but you would never tell. My legs are nice and strong now and I love stretching them on daily walks. I am very polite and will let you wipe my feet off before coming inside our home if you ask for my “paw.” (I also know ‘sit,’ ‘lay down,’ ‘wait,’ and ‘off.’ Plus I’m excited to learn more if you bring the treat bag.)  Once I get inside I’m quite the couch potato, especially if you will sit with me. As I said, cuddling is my favorite.  I am quite the slobbery gal but that’s part of my charm! Just thinking about my dinner makes my mouth water, no chicken-based dog food please, it makes me itchy.  I know my natural brindle coat is beautiful but I am a fashionista that never says no to being dressed up. I love going on car rides so submit an application and let’s get cruising together on our lifelong adventure.  Jupiter’s adoption fee is $250 and includes her spay, microchip, current vaccinations and preventives plus a free basic obedience course at Cedar Run Company in Hiawatha. Jupiter has TPLO surgery in March 2022 to repair and stabilize a torn ACL. Last Hope requires that all animals be kept as indoor pets, be altered and current on vaccinations and preventives for consideration. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.DJ is such a happy dude! He had a tough start, he was brought into rescue heartworm positive so has just recently finished treatment to get him healthy. That treatment includes 12 weeks of strict kennel rest so this young guy is all ready to get out and stretch his legs and have some fun as your new adventure buddy! DJ rides great in a car, he makes friends with every single person he meets and while he has good young dog energy, he also calms down very quickly when it’s time to relax! DJ can be dog selective so might be best suited as the only animal in your home, he is not a match with cats. DJ is very people friendly and we think he’s be great with kids, he’s best paired with elementary aged or older. With DJ’s history of having heartworm as a young dog, it’s important that his owner understand the importance of providing year round heartworm preventatives and routine vet care!    DJ’s adoption fee is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccinations and preventatives plus a free basic obedience course at Cedar Run Company in Hiawatha. Last Hope requires that all animals be kept as indoor pets only and be kept current on vaccinations and preventatives. Story
Hi, I'm Zoey! Not to toot my own horn but I am literally the sweetest 6 year old Boxer/Terrier mix you will ever meet. A few months ago, I got lost with my sister and someone found us running by a highway. They picked us up and took us to a local shelter where no one came to claim us. I was a staff favorite at the shelter but that setting was not good for me. That's why some really nice people came and took me to a foster home instead. I really love living in a home with people who show me love and kindness. My foster family says I'm special because of my resilience. You see, I am a shy girl that does the best with other dogs. They bring out my true self. Watching me open up and blossom in such a short time has filled their hearts with love. I've gone from a shy girl to a playful and affectionate companion, and I'm ready to bring joy to my forever family.. One of the cutest things about me is how I tilt my head when I'm curious-it always makes my foster family smile. And guess what? I love having my nails painted! It's like a little spa day just for me. Speaking of activities, I have a few favorites. I absolutely love playing ball-throw it, and I'll chase it for hours. Going on walks is another favorite; there's so much to see and sniff! When I'm not playing or walking, you can find me sunbathing, soaking up the warmth and relaxing. To help me continue to thrive, I need a home with another confident dog who can show me the ropes. Having a furry friend around helps me feel more confident and comfortable. Patience is key, too. I need a bit of time to fully open up and show you all the love I have to give. I get along well with other dogs, though I'm not sure about cats yet. When meeting new people, I can be a bit shy, but if you give me the space to get comfortable and do my own thing, I'll warm up in no time. I've never shown any aggression-just a little patience and kindness is all I need. With people I know, I'm a total "wiggle butt"! I get so excited and happy to see my favorite humans. I love kisses, belly rubs, and lots of attention. My foster family calls me their little speckled cow because of the black dots on my belly and the trail of water I leave after drinking water-it's my special quirk! The ideal home for me is one with an active family who has at least one other confident dog and loves to throw the ball for me. I also enjoy my spa days, especially when I'm pampered with a bath, some coconut oil on my belly and ears, and a manicure. If you're looking for a smart, loving, and playful companion, I'm your girl. I promise to shower you with love and bring endless joy to your life. I can't wait to find a forever family that will spoil me and shower me with the love I deserve. Zoey is up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, microchipped and spayed. She would do best in a home with a physically fenced yard so he can run and play safely. Applications to meet Zoey can be submitted at: https://www.aplanimalrescue.org/dogs
