Story
Hello everyone my name is Roscoe and I am about 9 years old and a big guy weighing in at almost 90lbs. I was adopted from Al-Van 5 years ago, and unfortunately had to come back due to no fault of my own. My family's life circumstances changed and I could no longer live with them. I am now looking for a new family to retire with! My previous home said I loved hanging out with kids! I found out that I am great at climbing fences so a high fenced in back yard would work best, or I'll need to remain on leash. I love to cuddle, play with toys, go for walks and rides in the car. I would also be the kind of guy that would love to have a Netflix and chill kind of night. I would prefer to be the only pet in the home. Ideally my family would be home often because I don't like spending time alone, I love my people! A generous donor even covered my adoption fee! I am neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and heartworm negative. If you are willing to give me a shot and become a part of your family please fill out an application at al-van.org/adopt.

Story
Nova means new and this amazing dog is ready for her new forever home. Could it be you? Nova just like her namesake is a bright star with powerful energy. Her loving spirit will melt your heart. She just wants to be with her people. She is both a snuggle bug and a playful, funny girl. She knows basic commands and has been a great addition to her foster family. She gets along with her foster brother, they play and share the house space well, but would need to be cat tested. She loves walks, toys (the tough kind), and time with her humans. She is treat-motivated and has continued crate training and leash work in her foster home, of which she has made enormous progress in a short time. She would need a home committed to continuing this work as well as addressing her allergy issues through diet and over-the-counter allergy medication. Her foster parents are Emily Z.    The adoption fee for Nova is $250.Please complete our online application form if you are interested in adopting Nova. A volunteer will contact you as soon as possible. Click here to go to the online adoption form All Kalamazoo Animal Rescue dogs & puppies are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Dogs have been heartworm tested and if appropriate (age and time of year) all dogs and puppies are given heartworm preventative. All are given medication to rid them of roundworms and checked and treated for fleas & ear mites, if needed. Dogs and puppies are given distemper vaccines and depending on how long the pet has been in foster care, additional distemper vaccine(s) may be necessary and the expense will be incurred by the adopter. Any canine over 4 months of age is brought current on the Rabies vaccine. Additional vet care may have been provided depending on the particular animal's needs. Dogs are individually priced as above. Please note that we do not ship dogs and we cannot guarantee that a long trip to see a foster dog will result in an adoption or taking the dog home on that day. It is in the best interest of pooch and owner to enroll in an obedience class soon after adoption. After all, you have a lot to learn about your new friend. The Kalamazoo Dog Training Club offers a discount to owners with newly adopted dogs. Enroll before any behavior problems start - you won't regret it! Story
Gretel is the silliest being I’ve ever met. If her face didn’t share the story of her unfair past, you would never know she ever experienced such trauma. Since being in foster care, she’s learned how to live indoors and that the toilet is only outside! She’s learned that her crate is a safe haven and a great place to unwind. She’s learned that sitting is a polite way to ask for something she wants. She’s learned that routines make her feel more calm. And she’s learned to stay within the boundaries of the yard, regardless of what distractions are out there. Gretel has always known how to bring fun to the party, how to win over furry friends. And how to seize the moment! Does she have a lot of energy? Yes. Does she know how to take a break? Yes. To summarize. Gretel is joy. Gretel brings joy. And Gretel learns best from joyful teachings! Her foster parents are Michelle Y.    The adoption fee for Gretel is $275.Please complete our online application form if you are interested in adopting Gretel. Story
Meet Sonic! He is a one-year-old bundle of joy who is awesome with other dogs and loves to cuddle. Sonic is looking for a loving forever home where he can enjoy family time and get lots of affection. He has had good interactions with other dogs but has not interacted with cats. He has done well with children, but may do better with older children because of his energy level.      Estimated Breed: Pit Bull Mix Personality: Friendly, affectionate, playful. Leash Manners: Pulls on leash a bit, but easily trainable. Favorite Activities: Playing with dogs, cuddling on the couch, exploring new things during walks. Training: Has done well in a crate, knows "sit".   Foster Notes: Appeared to be fully house trained, he didn’t have an accident while in his foster home. Sonic did great with the other dogs in the home and loved playing with them. He enjoyed cuddling on the couch and getting his neck and chin scratched. He was well-behaved, allowing for showers and ear cleaning without fuss. Slept perfectly through the night in his crate, as long as he could see his foster mom. Didn’t bark much, even when the families other dogs did, and was friendly towards other neighborhood dogs and people.   Volunteer Notes: “Good boy, gentle & Strong, loves people!” "Very happy, loved playing fetch and getting pets."   *Just a heads up, the way dogs behave here at the shelter might not be exactly how they act in a home environment. Dog behavior can change once they find their forever family. These are just our observations from their time at the SPCA of SWMI.* ##2062843##

Story
Hello there, my name is Skye! I may be eight years old, but don't let my age fool you—I've still got plenty of pep in my step and a whole lot of love to give. You see, I'm a playful girl at heart. Give me a toy, any toy, and I'm in heaven! Toys are like magic to me, they make everything brighter and more fun. Whether it's a squeaky ball or a fluffy stuffed animal, I'm all in for a game of fetch or a tug-of-war session. But hey, I'm not just about playtime. I'm also a big fan of snuggles. There's nothing quite like curling up with my favorite humans for some quality cuddle time. I'll happily soak up all the affection you're willing to give. Now, I have a little something extra to mention—I'm currently undergoing treatment for heartworm, but don't worry, I'm a trooper! I just need to take it easy and avoid getting too worked up until I'm all better. But once I'm back to full health, I'll be ready to bounce back into action with even more energy and enthusiasm. So, if you're looking for a sweet, playful companion who's always up for some fun and plenty of love, then look no further. I'm Skye, and I can't wait to be part of your family! *Just a heads up, the way I behave here at the shelter might not be exactly how I'll act in a home environment. Dog behavior can change once they find their forever family. These are just the observations from my time at the SPCA of SWMI.* ##1911803##
