Story
Say hello to Nova who has now been at FFAA since September 2024. Due to unfortunate and unsafe family circumstances, we took Nova into our care. Having been with her family since she was only 7 weeks old, she had a difficult time adjusting to shelter life, a problem which would soon be compounded by some unexpected and complex medical issues. Nova has been deaf since birth. Due to not being able to hear herself, she can be more vocal than the average dog. However, she knows quite a few hand signals that we will show her future adopters, including one for "Quiet." Seemingly separate from her deafness, her ears are a little sensitive and infection prone which we keep at bay by making sure to clean out her ears a couple times a week! After her spay, we found out the hard way that Nova has a blood clotting disorder. Thanks to the quick actions of staff that day and our vet's ability to get her in for emergency surgery, her life was saved. However, her road to recovery has not been easy. As she was bleeding out, something happened in her body that caused her to lose the ability to move her back legs. She was able to drag her body around, but her feet kept knuckling over so severely that she soon scraped open her feet and then licked them into becoming wounds. Since then, we have been fighting a battle with her body. One leg regained full control fairly quickly whereas the other still consistently knuckles over most of the time. It has take months for her wounds to finally close. We have worked hard to keep her pain under control as well. Nova sees a sports medicine and rehabilitation specialist in early February for a complete exam and report and hopefully an plan to give her her mobility back.Until that time, she will be in her intake kennel, cut off from the world except for her few playgroup breaks in a day. That's why we'd love to find her either a medical/respite foster or a foster-to-adopt placement. If you'd like to know more, please email adopt.ffaa@gmail.com and we'd be glad to answer any and all of your questions. With regards to her personality, she is dog friendly (she really enjoys dogs licking her ears) and LOVES her tiny humans (she is great with kids and teens of all ages). She's a perfect family dog! She is described as being a friendly couch potato who is super affectionate. She is house trained. During the day, she spent her time indoors and free roaming, and she is accustomed to having the pick of her family member's beds to sleep in. Her passions include car rides and her blankies - she loves suckling on them. She's a huge fan of sunbathing, and she greatly enjoys trips to the creek. Due to her frustration and boredom, we have seen a higher energy Nova, who despite her funky leg and discomfort will still sit perched on top of couches, leap, run, zoom around, and overall have a great time during her exercise excursions. Once she's settled down into being someone's baby again, we expect her to return to her previous couch potato status. When we asked if there's anything that they would like Nova's future owner to know, we were told, "She is an amazing dog. She will greet you with a smile every time you walk in the dor. She loves her tiny humans; we are her emotional support people. She loves to be petted and blankets.

Story
*Long stay - 6+ months. Adoption fee partially sponsored! Kid friendly: YesDog friendly: Occasionally selectiveCat friendly: UnknownEnergy level: Medium Leash skills: Needs some work!Keeps a clean kennel: Yes!We don’t know a lot about Karma’s life before she joined the FFAA family. This is because her first owners abandoned her when they moved out of their home and left her and another dog behind. As we’ve gotten to know her, however, it’s clear that Karma is a dog who is full of love and loves life. Although not always hyper, she eagerly spends bursts of excitement outside with her doggy friends. Her best friend Boaz has to work hard to keep up with her speed and precision as they wrestle and chase toys together. Karma loves to play with her human friends too! Her play style is best described as imitative of a kangaroo as she pounces and boxes with spread-toed front feet between bouts of gentle play mouthing and sprinting after tossed toys. You know you’ve won her over when she finally stops, drops, and rolls around, front feet still slapping around in the air, showing off her cute pink stomach. Karma is a first class and enthusiastic player, but please don’t underestimate the quality of cuddle time you’ll get. She’s just fine laying on the couch by herself, but she really comes alive when you take a few minutes to join her. Stretch out your legs and she’ll slide in beside them and rest her head on your body. As she drifts off to sleep, it’s almost impossible not to join her! She loves to be a part of whatever you’re doing, often forgoing toys or treats in order to plop herself quietly in the middle of it and patiently request some headpats. Karma's leash skills are improving slowly, but her biggest hurdle is excitement - she forgets all her newly attained skills when something grabs her interest, and she heads full tilt towards it. She's a muscly gal, so whoever is on the other end of her leash is in for a workout! We don't know if she was house or crate trained, but she keeps a potty-free kennel.Karma’s story broke our hearts. It’s difficult to understand why anyone would abandon their pet, but especially when a dog is as loyal and loving and full of lighthearted quirks and personality as Karma is, it’s incomprehensible. She’s been at FFAA for over 5 months now with very little interest. She deserves a forever home where she will never be abandoned again. If she sounds like she might be a good fit for you, please contact the shelter through our email adopt.ffaa@gmail.com or give us a call at (417) 592-2512, or fill out an application on our website! https://www.ffaaneosho.org/Shelter hours: Closed Monday-Tuesday. Open 12-7 Wednesday-Friday. Open 10-4 Saturday-Sunday.

Story
Kid friendly: UnknownDog friendly: Yes!Cat friendly: UnknownEnergy level: HighLeash skills: Pulls on the leashKeeps a clean kennel: Working on it!It's our pleasure to introduce Fiona, newly adoptable, and to share her dramatic before & after shots along with her story.Fiona actually joined us all the way back in January. We received an urgent intake request concerning an emaciated dog. The freezing snowy weather combined with her thin coat and underweight frame bumped her to the top of our priority list, and we opted to take her the same day. Once she arrived, we also discovered her to have itchy, infected skin and a broken or malformed tail. After some weeks spent eating 3x a day, taking antibiotics to treat her skin, and an exam at the vet, it was decided that when she was well enough, she’d undergo surgery to remove the part of her tail that was nonfunctional and clearly painful to her. So 2.5 weeks ago, Fiona had her spay and her tail amputation at the same time! She had her stitches taken out this week, and she’s able to wiggle-butt her way into our hearts and laps even better now! From the get-go, Fiona had a wonderfully hopeful and jubilant spirit. As skinny as she was, she was more than happy to soak up the attention, enjoy the toys she newly had access to, and accept treats with such vigor that it was nearly hazardous for the treat-givers! Her energy level never flagged, and she’s clearly a hardy and strong girl to live through whatever she experienced that put her in such a state. As you can see in her after pictures, her skin has cleared up beautifully, and her frame has filled out and muscled up. She’s now ready to be a pampered princess in a home of her own. Active and agile, Fiona would welcome an engaged household that enjoys keeping up with her level of activity. We are guessing that she is a Boxer/Pit mix - she’s smaller and slimmer than your typical Boxer, but her smushed and short nose is indicative of some Boxer roots. Her play style as well is physical, lacking in self-preservation, and tumultuous as she bounces, prances, and runs in an impressive display of her athletic prowess.

Story
Charlee is one of our longest term residents. She is the sweetest dog once she gets to know you. Charlee is so desperate for someone to love, that she sometimes reacts in ways that turn off potential adopters, usually this is from her showing protective behavior of who she has chosen as her person. Charlee will sometimes bark at others while on a leash, she is such a sweet and special girl though. In her mind, it is up to her to protect those she loves, and unfortunately, so far, this is not a behavior that has been appreciated by potential adopters. Charlee has been adopted twice so far, but brought back each time after just a couple of days. This is not a long enough time for any dog to adjust to a new environment. Charlee needs someone patient, and caring, who appreciates what a loyal, and special dog that she is. Charlee just needs a REAL chance to prove she is worthy of finding her special someone, so she never has to come back to the shelter. Come and spend some time with her, so she can show you why we here at CHS love her so much! Charlee's adoption fee is sponsored, so all it takes is $25 to take her home!

Story
Jello is a beautiful red female Pitbull Terrier and her estimated DOB is 04/02/2017. She was brought to us when she was going to be put down at another shelter. While at a foster home recently, it was reported back that she is shy but incredibly loyal. She very quickly became a velcro dog seeking out love and affection and returning it tenfold. She did well in her crate and slept quietly through the night. She has great house skills, is gentle even when playing and loves her bed. She does have energy so would do great with a family that will take her for walks or spend time playing with her each day. Jello is sweet to all people but is not a big fan of small animals. She can absolutely get along with other dogs with a proper introduction, but she may need to have her own little space where she can get away from the other dogs of her household where she can eat and play with her toys in peace! All of our pets are fixed, up to date on their vaccinations, and microchipped. The Haven of the Ozarks is open form 9am-4pm, seven days a week. For more information, please email us at havenozarksanctuary@gmail.com, or give us a call at 417-835-3647.

Story
Qira is a sweet Boxer mix that came to Faithful Friends Animal Advocates as a stray in March 2017, when she was 11 months old. After being at FFAA for whopping 3 years, she was finally adopted and had a home of her own for a couple of years before finding herself being abandoned when her family surrendered her to Animal Control. When Faithful Friends received the call that she was there, we gladly took her back, even though our heart was broken for this poor girl. Unfortunately when she came back to us the second time, she was blind in in her left eye, but she doesn’t let that slow her down!If you count the days Qira was here before being adopted (995 days) and the days she has been here since being brought back (855+ days), she has been here for a combined total of 1,850+ days. She has spent over 5 of her 8 years inside of a shelter, and that is FAR too long. She NEEDS and deserves to get out of this stressful shelter environment and finally have the home she has always dreamed of. She loves her stuffed animals and to play tug of war. She also enjoys going for leisurely walks and is always ready to snuggle up on the couch! With the blindness in her left eye, she is occasionally prone to startling easily. Because of this, she would do best in a home without young children. She is not reactive towards other dogs when she is out and about, but she tends to be selective when meeting them up close--she doesn't like excitable, hyperactive dogs to be in her space.
