Lily brings a sense of comfort to all who meet her. She has a very gentle demeanor (great with children and people with disabilities), is very quiet and only barks if encouraged by other barkers in the house. She has lived with and tolerates all sorts of pets, but prefers a quiet home and can be anxious around high energy animals or humans. When on walks, other dogs who have been described as reactive even seem to get along with her calm personality. Lily (nicknames are 'Bit' and 'Pig') has been house-trained since a young puppy and can be left unsupervised at home while you're away! However, she is just as food motivated now as she was then. She may want to try your snacks, flavored medicines or stinky kitchen trash if left out - her only "naughty" habit. She would love to live with someone who works from home or is retired to give her lots of consistent company - she prefers routine and familiar faces nowadays. Her old age has recently been a learning curve, but certainly not a burden. An accessible home and fenced yard is a must! She is not as nimble as she once was - she stumbles easily, is unable to climb stairs and will wander if given the opportunity to roam. This past year she has been showing signs of Dog Dementia, specifically pacing in the middle of the night (sundowning), moments of disorientation and non-response to name calling. She is a new patient to Trazodone which has helped her sleep through the night and get through anxious days. She just completed her annual senior exam this month with no detrimental health updates! Her doctor says she simply needs extra love and attention. An easy order for an old girl who just likes to eat, sleep and snuggle. Why are we rehoming? After relocating several times these past 3 years, it's in both of our best interest to give her a secure, permanent furever home with a compatible lifestyle. Lily has been my one and only girl since she was a puppy. With her old age, vet bills and becoming more disoriented with every uproot, I want to be sure she has only one more loving transition.
