Story
Did you know Pierre originally came to us in 2022? He has been adopted and returned twice because of his energy level and his rowdy play style with other dogs, and we are beyond determined to find his perfect adopter.Pierre is loving and affectionate and wins over every person he meets. He loves butt scratches and belly rubs, and wants to be the center of attention. Pierre has a hyper play style and would do best with other playful dogs who want to wrestle.Pierre seems very tolerant of children and gets along well with them, but he might be too energetic for small kiddos. Pierre loves car rides. He walks pretty well on a leash and enjoys going on adventures. If you are looking for a new best friend who wants to live his life to the fullest, consider Pierre!More information? Call Marion Area Humane Society at 740-389-6548 or email at manager@mahspets.org

Story
Who has a kid-free home and a soft spot for seniors?! Mazie wants to meet you! Mazie is 10 1/2 years old. She came to us last May because she was not comfortable around the young kids in the home. She does not like to be grabbed and squeezed, and wants her personal space respected. We wish we could tell you Mazie likes other animals, but she does NOT. We told her she’s making it difficult to find her an adopter, but she won’t budge! If you can offer Mazie a home without kids and other animals, she will make it worth your while! She may be older, but she has plenty of fire left in her!More information? Call Marion Area Humane Society at 740-389-6548 or email at manager@mahspets.org

Story
Could YOU be Bluey’s perfect adopter? Bluey LOVES to play. You wouldn’t expect such a shy dog to be so jovial but he is a very happy dog! We aren’t sure what his life was like before, but he almost seems to enjoy living at the pound. Bluey is very timid around new people and will cower at sudden movements until he gets used to you. Once he trusts you, you’ve got a pal for life.Bluey is quiet and observant and seems like a smart pup. He is very interested in other dogs and has had many positive interactions with other dogs on-leash. Bluey is going to need some patience in his new home, and would do best with gentle kiddos. He may take a few days to come around, but we promise he’s worth the time!Bluey is available to foster or adopt! Any kids or dogs at home will need to come meet him We can cat test if needed!

Story
Beautiful Carmella is seeking an experienced adopter! Carmella came to us as a puppy, and has grown up at the pound, picking up some bad habits along the way. When it comes to other dogs, she has started showing some “reactivity”, being possessive over her food and toys, and needs help learning how to properly socialize.Carmella was found as a stray in July and has been in three homes since then.Home # 1 - returned after one dayHome # 2 - returned after several weeksHome # 3 - returned after one dayLuckily, Carmella is still young and we are hopeful that with consistent training and stern commands, Carmella can learn how to properly interact with people and other animals. Carmella would be a great candidate for a “crate and rotate” situation at home, or with somebody who works from home and can slowly integrate her into the pack. Carmella is NOT the type of dog you can instantly let run loose with your other dog(s). She needs to learn boundaries. If you consider yourself a strong-willed individual and are up for the challenge of raising this playful little lady, let us know!

Story
Who out there wants a big ol’ pittie?? Meatball is 90 pounds of charm and personality. He is strong and determined, and needs an adopter who can handle his size on walks, because he will have no problem pulling you down and dragging you across the yard - we know from experience! Meatball does seem to have some separation anxiety and will hoist his big butt up a chain link fence if he is left unattended for too long. Meatball has had several positive interactions with other dogs and recently met a cat! He didn’t seem to mind it one bit. Meatball is ready to find his new home, and if you’re interested in meeting him, let us know!

Story
Look at this handsome fella! We’ve been calling him Dawson, but we have since been told his real name is Bandit. Bandit seems more appropriate because he has stolen our hearts (we know that was lame, we’re sorry.) Mr. Dawson/Bandit is 6-7 years old, and he would prefer a home without cats or male dogs. We haven’t tested him ourselves, we are going off what we’ve been told. Dawson is a wonderful dog and he seems very well behaved. He loves attention and once he warms up to you he will be begging for pets. Dawson has some itchy skin/allergies, which is not uncommon for pitties, and we think he might be hard of hearing but aren’t positive. Overall, Dawson is a pretty cool guy. He keeps to himself and stays curled up in a ball in his crate most of the time.Dawson is available to foster or adopt! Any kids or dogs in the home must come in for a meet and greet.

Story
Flash is a 1 yr old Pitbull/Boxer mix.  He is fearful and concerned over new people so patience is necessary with him. We suspect this may be a reaction to being abandoned. He was removed from a property after being left alone for several days.  He is playful and loves snacks.  He will walk ok on leash but does pull some.  Flash is young and will need some basic obedience but he does already know some commands. As part of the adoption process we require all dogs to meet your current dogs before adoption is approved. Anyone interested should stop in to meet him and complete an application if interested. Story
Marco is a ball of energy. He is about 1-2 yrs old and about 45 lbs. Marco is selective of his doggu friends but might be able to live with a female dog if properly introduced (he barks and carries on at the site of another dog).  He is messy in his kennel and will need housetrained BUTY in some cases the stress and adrenaline due to the # of dogs and noise can cause them to get over stimulated while in our care.  Marco is playful and likes to go for walks.  He needs s handler that is up for a small challenge because his energy is high and he gets distracted easily.   He is not a bad dog just needs some guidance and training. Anyone interested in him must meet him and complete an application.  Our application is NOT online. He must also meet any dogs that are currently in the home.  Based on his energy and behavior we suspect he is not going to be good with cats (at least not initially) and should be in a home with older children.   Morrow County Dog Shelter, Mt. Story
Ivan is about 1 yr old and is ALL puppy.  He will require some obedience training BUT he is very eager to learn and is food/treat motivated.  He does know the 'sit' command and will do so when asked (most of the time).  He loves toys and is very energetic---so he will require regular a home with someone that is prepared to exercise him regularly. He may be partially housetrained however on occasion he does have accidents here.  Ivan has been tested with another dog, Isacc, whom he lived with prior to coming to the shelter BUT he will need to meet all new potential housemates prior to adoption being approved.  Ivan and Isacc play pretty well together during play group.  If you have interest please stop in during our regular business hours to meet and apply for him. Dogs do not go home the same day as meeting--we review applications first.   Morrow County Dog Shelter, Mt. Gilead, OH. 419-946-1747January 4, 2025, 10:30 am

Story
Isacc is a young Pitbull mix.  He may have some great dane/lab or boxer in the mix. He is about 10 months old and will require obedience training. Isacc is about 50 lbs and will likely become more stout as he ages and fills out. He does seem to know the 'sit' command and will do it for a snack.  He is fine with other dogs, BUT will need to meet any new housemate prior to adoption being approved.  His companion, Ivan, whom he lived with prior to the shelter is also here and they play well together. We do not know how he is with children or cats.  Isacc is very energetic and will need a lot of exercise.  He loves to go for walks and does ok on the leash but is a work in progress. Anyone interested in Isacc must stop in during regular business hours to meet him and apply.   Morrow County Dog Shelter, Mt. Gilead, OH. 419-946-1747 January 4, 2025, 10:30 am

Ollie is a sweet 10 month old mixed breed.  He is tall and thin like a whippet or sight hound but has features of a terrier too. He is gentle and sweet, seems to react fine to other dogs and loves people.  He is young and will require some training.  He has a good amount of energy (he is young) so will require a fair amount of exercise.    Ollie is already neutered, vaccinated, wormed, and tested neg for heartworm. If you are interested in Ollie please call or respond via this listing. Morrow County Dog Shelter, Mt. Gilead, OH. 419-946-1747March 18, 2025, 1:04 pm

Story
Vada is a very special dog who quickly won over the hearts of our entire shelter staff. She comes from a rough background and is looking for a fresh start. She is terrified of men; we believe there was some abuse present in her past. She has her guard up, but with time and patience she opens up quickly. Vada LOVES cats and would do best with older kids/teens. She does not like dogs very much. She is really looking for a family willing to rescue her and continue to work on her trust building abilities. She knows her basic commands and seems to be house broken. She's eager to please once she breaks down her emotional barriers. She's going to be an awesome dog for someone, she just needs to be given the chance.Age: 5Housebroken: YesActivity Level: MediumKids: Older kids/teensDogs: Doesn’t seem to like dogsCats: Loves cats!Training Needs: Fairly high, terrified of strangers, especially menLeash Trained: YesMore information?
