Story
Meet Chessy! Hello! My name is Chessy, but my foster mom also calls me Chester Cheetah because I’m a cool dude with a heart of gold. I’m a 4- to 5-year-old, 60-pound Lab/Pit mix, and I’m searching for my forever home – could it be with you? My journey hasn’t been easy, but I’m proof that love and kindness can make all the difference. I was rescued just two hours before I was set to be euthanized on Christmas Eve, and I’ve been making the most of my second chance ever since. My foster mom tells me every day that I’m an incredibly sweet and special boy, and I believe her! I may have a few scars from my past, but don’t let that fool you—I’m all about love, cuddles, and companionship. When I first arrived, I was a little shy, but I have never shown any aggression. Once I realize you’re a friend, I’ll melt into your lap (yes, I consider myself a lap dog!) and soak up all the affection you have to give. Even my foster mom’s son, who is a very tall 6’9”, won me over in no time! I’m a polite, well-mannered guy who: ✔️ Walks beautifully on a leash, staying right by your side ✔️ Is housebroken and crate-trained (I even put myself to bed sometimes!) ✔️ Rarely barks—I'm a quiet and relaxed companion ✔️ Plays when it's time to play and chills when it's time to relax I get along great with other dogs, including my two miniature dachshund foster sisters, and I’ve done well with small children, cats, and even chickens in my past foster home! I’d love to have a doggy playmate my size, but I’d also be happy as your one-and-only as long as I get plenty of love and attention. Since I’m a sensitive soul, I thrive in a calm home where positive reinforcement is used. Yelling scares me, but a gentle voice and patience help me feel safe and loved. I’m ready to find a forever family that will cherish me as much as I’ll cherish them. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who will be your biggest fan, I might just be the perfect match for you. Fill out an application and come meet me—I can’t wait to start our adventure together! 🐾 Love, Chessy 🐾 Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process. Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant (adopter) for any reason.

Story
Billy, Billy, Billy! The favorite amongst police officers. Our baby boy is the most handsome guy with piercing greyish eyes and a personality as big as the moon! Billy was a stray that was never claimed and sat for months in the police station. We were luckily able to find a great foster home for him and he has now completed 8 sessions of training with our hand-picked trainer for manners and leash walking. He will need continued work on greeting people and leash walking - FYI. He knows sit, kennel, paw, stay, and down and is house-trained, crate-trained and is working on a release command. Billy is a foodie and his favorite things to eat are....STRAWBERRIES AND BLUEBERRIES! This dude loves people and he especially loves his human foster sister who is 8 yrs old. He is good with kids and loves to be in the center of their shenanigans. He isn't fond of other animals so he must be in a home with no other dogs or cats. Children should be sturdy or 5 and up. He is known to steal kids toys as his own, but my mom always said that if its on the floor, its fair game! The human neighbors like to play with Billy over the fence. He brings his ball to the fence where the neighbor will pick up and throw the ball for hours with him. Billy likes to Netflix and nap, get belly rubs, play fetch, and eat chicken jerky! Billy also has some funny quirks - he makes alien sounds, likes to flip his water bowl or food bowl to let you know he's empty, he will let you know he has to potty when he won't get out of your personal space. Billy is learning to be less mouthy - so an assortment of chew toys, non-rawhide bones and licky mats are a must. This young lover girl is just waiting for her "fur"-ever family to take her home and share her sweetness. Queenie is a female pittie mix, weighing in at about 40lbs. Queenie loves to lay in the yard, roll in the grass, and chill outside in the shade. She enjoys just lying in the room with her family, but is always ready and eager to play with her toys, learn, and CUDDLE. She is crate trained and potty trained and would make a great addition to any household. Our little Queenie is young, sweet and ready to sit with her forever family on her forever throne. The Good Stuff: + Lovable Gal: Queenie is a pocket sized love bug. She loves snuggling with her people and is excited to meet new people. + Self-Entertainer : She loves playing with her toys. Queenie is a big fan of a lick mat or a bully stick and loooooves fetch. + Experienced: Queenie gets how to live in a home, and thrives on all the routines that come with that. She isn't too demanding + No Separation Anxiety here: She loves to be your shadow and will follow you around the house as your always companion, but doesn't mind when you need to leave. Skills She Knows: + Sit + Name Recognition + Find It + Giving her humans space while they eat + Stay + Lay down + Bed + Paw + Leave it + Wait We aren't sure why our royal hasn't found her family, but we know you're out there! Until, then she'll be patiently waiting.... The adoption fee for Queenie is $400. This donation helps to cover veterinary expenses including spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations. Wish Upon a Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit, foster based animal rescue. If you would like to meet Queenie please complete our adoption questionnaire at www.wishuponarescue.org/adopt.
