Meet Barbeque! This beautiful dog came into our care as a stray. Barbeque would greatly benefit from a home that will help them catch up on the snuggles and love they've missed out on so far. Barbeque does well with other dogs, but likes to take introductions slow. If you have other animals in your home, we recommend bringing them in for a meet and greet before taking them home. If you are interested in meeting with Barbeque, please submit an adoption form on our website: fairfieldcountydogs.com and we will contact you to arrange a time to visit. Story
Pilgrim is thought to be between 1 and 2 years old. Pilgrim was found on Shafer Street at University Commons, Athens. He appears to have been neutered. He is up to date on his shots. Pilgrim currently weighs 72 pounds. UPDATE: Pilgrim is a big puppy at heart who has kept a fantastic attitude through a tough journey. He was found near the OU campus in October and no one came to claim him. Shortly after Pilgrim arrived, he began vomiting large quantities of trash, including plastic packaging and bottle caps. We think that he may have been on his own and forced to scavenge for food. Despite this rough start, Pilgrim has been a good sport about living in the shelter and looks for any opportunity to make you smile. There is a note in the shelter that reads: Pilgrim loves playing with toys and stuffed animals. He truly lights up when someone takes him outside to play. Thankfully, Pilgrim has a special volunteer that comes to the shelter just to let him get goofy and throw toys in the yard. He is so grateful for these moments, but he is more than ready for his forever home. Pilgrim has had positive interactions with other dogs and is ready for a life of fun and love.

Casey is thought to be around 5 years old. She would do best in a home with no other dogs. Casey is spayed, crate-trained, up to date on her shots and she knows basic commands such as sit and come. Casey currently has a cast on her front leg but is healing nicely. Casey weighs 72 pounds. Meeting dogs is by appointment only. Please call the shelter (740/593-5415) to make an appointment. All adopters must bring in kids and other dogs in the household for a meet and greet before adoption.

Story
Neptune is a magnificent 3-year old male American Staffordshire Terrier who was surrendered by his owner on August 29, 2024. Neptune may look familiar to some of our volunteers and Facebook fans since Neptune was originally bought to the HSOV on December 14, 2023 after he was found on State Route 7 in the Marietta/Reno Ohio area. Neptune was not wearing a collar, but a microchip was detected. Our shelter staff attempted to locate his owner through the microchip data but was unable to do so since the individual to whom the microchip was registered had re-homed Neptune to a 'friend-of-a-friend' and no longer had any contact information (sigh). This handsome guy has a sleek chocolate brown-and-white coat, white markings on his legs/paws, a long tail with a white tip on the end, and a beautiful symmetrically-marked face with dark brown eyes, a chocolate nose on his pink/white muzzle, and cute 'cartoon ears'. You cannot look at Neptune's mischievous-looking face without smiling. Neptune has a playful, fun-loving personality. Thanks to HSOV Kennel Tech Emily Beaver who accompanied Neptune for his outdoor photos on December 16th. Neptune thoroughly enjoyed his '15-minutes of fame' and (like all of the HSOV dogs), he loved Emily. Neptune weighs 62 lbs and is strong on the other end of a leash. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Neptune was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Since Neptune was not reclaimed, he was neutered on February 15, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine. We did our usual 'Happy Dance' when Neptune was adopted on March 2, 2024 .. But Neptune's time in his new home was short-lived since he was returned to HSOV on April 24, 2024. Neptune is a happy boy with a very outgoing personality. We were happy for Neptune when he was adopted on June 26, 2024 .. And we were sad for Neptune when he came back to HSOV on August 29, 2024 through no fault of his own. Neptune was loved by his new family
