Story
Cinder is a survivor a housefire in which her owner was taken to the hospital and never returned. There was one other adult dog that survived; however, some lost their lives in the fire. She and the other dog remained at what remained of the house ( a burned out shell ) until a family member made it out to the home to find her and the other dog still there alive. She had some minor burns and her fur was the worse for wear. She rebounded quickly and is the sweetest most loving dog. Cinder never met a stranger is seeks out affection where ever she goes. She deserves a loving home and has lots of love to give in return. Please consider giving her that home. Cinder is housetrained, fully vetted, all vaccinations, spayed and is microchipped. RPACI is a non profit rescue, and currently possess our 501C3 to operate as such. Please visit us on Facebook: Rebecca's Paws and Claws in Remlap and our website: www.rpacirescue.org. All dogs from this rescue are transported from Alabama to the Pennsylvania/ New England/ Virginia area and delivered in Pennsylvania, Virginia and RI. Each dog will come fully vetted. Story
Meet Delta Ray or as her foster family affectionately calls her Miss Wiggle Butt This sweet Bully girl was seen wandering as a stray and ended up in a rural SC shelter. She was taken to a local spay/neuter clinic for her vetting when she caught the eye of one of the staff members, Holley. She sees a lot of dogs, but Delta really stood out to her, and she was so happy to meet every person and every dog at the clinic. She has a big Bully smile and a wagging tail that goes a mile a minute, earning her nickname. Holley was charmed by Delta Ray and couldn’t stop thinking about her. She decided to spring her out of the shelter for a short staycation and then couldn’t bear to take her back. She committed to fostering her through heartworm treatment and reached out to our rescue to help find her forever home. Delta Ray has been living with Holley, her husband, their four kids (ages 11 - 17), and two cats for a month now, and has settled right in. She has been great meeting new dogs and is excellent with the kids. We checked in with Holley for an update: “When I first brought Delta Ray home she was just so excited to have a toy. I’m pretty sure she was an outside confined dog because she kept trying to make a bed in the leaves. Any love she gets, she just soaks it in. She has a chill personality and caught on to our routine quickly. She is a submissive dog and has met multiple dogs while in my care. I met a friend at a local park recently with her dog, and Delta did wonderful with her and showed her belly to her. She’s a lover, not a fighter! Delta did great meeting new people at the park and just wants all the pets from everyone. I leash walk her for potty breaks and she does well. She’s led by her nose but walks at a leisurely pace. Sometimes if she sees something exciting like a duck, she might pull a bit, but if I call her name she snaps out of it. She’s potty trained and cratetrained. She will sit, wait, and has learned what “no ma’am.” means. She’s very food-motivated and learns quickly. She is absolutely wonderful with my children. She is a definite couch potato and when she sleeps with the kids, I have to drag her out of bed to go potty. She loves to chase a ball and that’s when she gets most animated. She wants to catch it a few times, chew on it for a while, and then take a nap. Delta loves to sleep! Delta would do wonderfully in a house with kids and other dogs. She’s a medium-level energy and a real snuggle buddy. The only issue we’ve had with her is that she will chase a cat. I have three cats and two of them are sweet angels. Then there is my Storm kitty. Well, she hates Delta and when I was walking Delta on leash through the house she came out of nowhere like a cat ninja and she and Delta got into it.  Storm was fine, but Delta had scratches on her nose. I think Delta would do best in a cat-free home. She is such a wonderful girl and I am so excited for her to find a permanent home! Delta Ray is a very lovable girl and an easy dog. She’s very easily entertained with a kong and some peanut butter. She just wants to sit in front of her person and get pets. Will she chew up your kids' stinky slippers? Sure! But hey! They left them out! lol.” ***** Delta Ray has proven to have excellent social skills and does well as part of a family.  Apply today! Story
Meet Trevor! Trevor was spotted roaming around PG County as a stray for over a week, a county that has historically banned his breed. He was seen going up to walkers and other dogs on the street seeking attention and was clearly a young dog. WDR adopter and local animal advocate, Pink, was worried for his safety and brought him home. Trevor is the 5th dog Pink has rescued from her Riverdale, MD community, and WDR has found forever homes for each of them. Now it’s Trevor’s turn. Trevor is currently bunking with Pink and WDR alum Bella. He easily integrated into their home and has become good pals with Bella. He wants to play with her but also respects her space, and he seems most content if she’s around. If he notices she’s out of view, he will anxiously start searching for her. Trevor has quickly picked up on the rules of home life, is already housetrained, and has learned how to use the doggy door. Pink reports he is very well-mannered in the home, with no running or unscheduled chewing. He will bark at noises and people outside, but that’s improving as he’s settling in and getting more familiar. While Trevor is a young pup (maybe a year old) he has a moderate energy level. He loves going on walks and his leash skills are improving, and while he pulled and barked at first, he’s doing so much better — we think leash walks were new to him. Now, he gets two daily walks and some playtime in the yard for fetch and romping with Bella. He likes to play catch but after a few throws, he gets bored. Mostly he wants to follow Pink around the house and cuddle when she settles down. He loves a bone to chew on and enjoys his toys, but more so when he and Bella compete for the same one. They have done very well sharing. We checked in with Pink for a quick Q&A: Personality? Confident for sure and very snuggly! Have you seen him around kids? I have not seen him around young kids - but I think being kind of a puppy himself, he’d be great with them. I think he would cuddle up and watch Dora the Explorer all day long if you let him and be very gentle. Does he meet new people and other dogs well? He greets new people and visitors very well. We’ve had a mixed experience meeting new dogs. He’s done well meeting my friend's female German Shepherd who visited us but reacted to another friend’s male dog. He had not yet been neutered at the time, so we are going to retry after he recovers from his neuter surgery. "Trevor is a delightful dog to have around. He is so happy with his routine! He enjoys mealtime - he has quite the appetite! He enjoys Bella’s company and has certainly taken the role as her little brother. He wants to hang out with her, but his main focus is the human. At first, he would follow my every move. He seems a bit more comfortable now and will pick a spot and stay and even hang out on the porch for a bit when I’m inside. He is very cuddly and simply adores attention. He will sleep through the night and only gets up in the morning when I get up. I fall in love with all dogs I take in, but if there were to be a favorite, I would say Trevor is the one." What I love about Trevor: So smart So handsome So cuddly So well behaved (at home) So connected with me/humans I love that he’ll get up in the morning when we (Bella and I) get up I love that when he is done at mealtime he won’t bother Bella if she’s not I love that he follows Bella inside when I leave for work and that they are both looking out the window with joy when I pull up   FOSTER MOM UPDATE - 8/15/24 Trevor is great with his bestie, Bella, but had some challenges meeting unknown dogs on leash. We brought in a trainer to assess Trevor and work with Pink to improve his leash skills. The trainer feels that much of Trevor's reactivity on leash comes from uncertainty and not knowing what to do on leash vs. agression. He lacks confidence in what to do and will bark to avoid interaction with unfamiliar pups. He needs a leader to teach him what's expected and give him repeated exposure to work through his uncertainty. After two sessions, we checked in with Pink for a training update: "He is doing sooo much better - He doesn’t react to dogs in their own yards anymore  but still some work to do when he sees another dog being walked in close proximity - except for - and this is great - we walked past the dog he was hanging around with when he was roaming as a stray and the reunion was good! It was tense for a few minutes… but not aggressive and we were able to continue walking with zero conflict! I praised him A LOT! He pulls when I walk with Bella, but if he is pulling too much, I stop and he walks backs towards me and slows down his stride. Improvement is steady, I would say!" Good boy Trevor! ******* We are looking for loving family with some dog experience to help Trevor be his best selt. He's such a sweet boy with a social nature and a great disposition with all people. He's good with kids too, and can have good doggie relationships, it just needs to be right match for him like sweet Bella. Apply for this handsome boy today!   BREED ESTIMATE: AmStaff (Bully) GENDER: Male APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  55 lbs  APPROXIMATE AGE: ~  14 mos COAT TYPE:  short coat ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/neutered/microchipped LOCATION:  Riverdale, MD   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Story
Meet Ivy a.k.a June Bug.... This sweet girl was rescued from an unstable situation and is just as sweet as she can be. She was surrendered to the rescue by her owner, who loves her but is an addict and can not properly care for her or himself. Ivy was living tied to a tree outside a dilapidated trailer with no power or running water, and an animal advocate in the community became aware of the situation and wanted to help her. Initially, we supplied her with food and fresh water and planned to provide a source of shelter, but as we became more aware of the situation, we knew we had to get her out.  Ivy’s owner was leaving her tied out unspayed, unprotected, and was often gone for long periods. Dogs are roaming in the community that could harm her and she would be unable to get away. She also recently had a litter of puppies, and we don’t want that to happen again. The owner needed some convincing to let her go, but with an upcoming court appearance and prior record, there's a chance he could be incarcerated. He made the unselfish decision to do what is best for her, and because he let her go she will have a better life. Ivy came into our care with a few surface wounds, covered in fleas, and both were easily addressed. She’s since been spayed and had all her shots. Thankfully she was negative for heartworm and is in overall good health, and she's been doing great in her foster home for a few weeks now. Once she had a little time to mourn the loss of her person and acclimate, her sweet, fun personality reemerged. She’s a very social girl with moderate energy and has good house manners. She’s good with other dogs, cats, and young kids too! We checked in with her foster mom, Kim, for an update: “Ivy is super friendly! She’s a couch potato and champion cuddle partner. She is totally housetrained, crate-trained, and not destructive at all. I don’t feel the need to crate her. She walks well on leash and only pulls a little when it’s time to meet a new best friend - human or dog. She may work in a butt wag and happy dance when she meets someone new. I had her at the vet yesterday for a booster shot and she did great. Ivy is very smart too and already knows 'sit,' 'stay,' 'shake' and 'leave it.' I have two cats and she has been face to face with them, ears up and tail wagging. No growling or lunging. She plays with toys now and sometimes likes to wrestle. She’s definitely a Velcro dog. I think she knows we saved her so she’s a pleaser. Rides great in a car. Very kid-friendly. My 5-year-old granddaughter loves her too!” Awesome dog alert! Ivy is an ambassador for her breed. We are looking for a loving family to give this very good girl the life she deserves.  Ivy is coming to N.Va in early Sept and will be ready to start her new life. Story
Rosie was dropped off into this fosters neighborhood and left to fend for herself after obviously having puppies. She went door to door asking to be let in — it was January and rainy and this indoor girl was beside herself. After 10 days begging for help, she found the right neighbor who gave me a call and I brought her into my foster home. She had terrible skin allergies and was oh so hungry! For months she stared at trucks and on walks sat next to trucks — likely hoping it was her people’s truck and surely they were coming back for her. That was Jan ‘23. Flash forward to now, she is a solid 85# and allergies controlled, fur is gorgeous, and she loooooooooves everyone she meets ESPECIALLY men!!! She gets a daily walk and has become a neighborhood celebrity knowing everybody! Lawnmowing guys, city service trucks, linemen, neighbors…. literally stop what they are doing to come give her some petting and a happy hello! A lonnnng roll in the grass is required before walks are complete. She happily wears her raincoat on rainy days and winter coat in the cold months. Rosie has perfect housemanners and asks for very little. She needs to be the only pet in the house though, preferring to be Queen of her kingdom. She requires monthly meds for allergies. Her mast cell tumor was removed with all margins clear, and her Lymes disease treated. She loves car rides and going into stores and meeting everyone she can. A home where she can be Queen is her dream and mine. A busy foster home that requires her to be kept separated is not the ideal place for this social butterfly.
