Story
Meet Champ, a 5-month-old Anatolian Shepherd with a heart full of potential. At 30 pounds, this sweet and gentle boy is a bit on the shy side, but his tail wags with excitement when he gets the attention he craves. Champ is still learning to trust the world around him and will need a patient and loving family to help him come out of his shell. With time and care, his true, wonderful personality is sure to shine through. Champ is great with other dogs, cats, and kids, making him a versatile companion for any household. One of his cutest quirks is his cautious approach to treats—he recently took his time figuring out how to enjoy a simple milkbone, which was both endearing and a testament to his gentle nature. If you’re ready to welcome a loving, loyal friend who just needs a little time to blossom, Champ is the perfect addition to your family.

Maverick was found stray in a rural area and his owners never surfaced. The family who took him under their wing, reached out to LHS for assistance placing him in a home. He is an extremely sweet and loyal pet. He does great with people of all sizes but would do best as the only dog in the home.  He will be neutered and microchipped next week. He has been brought up to date on vaccinations and heartworm tested (negative). Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Nyssa is one of several dogs who were found on a ranch in the Texas Hill Country. We can only speculate, but we believe that the property owners sold their livestock, moved away, and left the dogs to fend for themselves.  Nyssa's mom Lydia is VERY friendly, but Lydia's pups (two generations) were completely unsocialized, so we're guessing they may have been born after the people moved. Nyssa seems content whether living inside the house or in our horse barn. She has learned to use a dog door that is always open (no rubber flap), and if she can't get outside, she will use puppy pads inside the house. She definitely likes a good bed, whether that's a human bed or a plush dog bed. She has made progress walking on a leash, though she definitely still needs work on that and could benefit from some training sessions at home. It will take love, patience, and time to bring Nyssa out of her shell. But she is such a sweet dog that we know it will be worth the effort. If you are ready to make the commitment to devote yourself to earning Nyssa's trust, please go to www.bluebonnetrescue.org to complete our application.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 13, 2024, 2:35 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Sasha is mom to the Nutcracker Suite puppies. She is small for an Anatolian Shepherd, so would do best with a larger male partner if adopted as a working LGD. Our guess is that she was probably bred during her first heat cycle, which tends to cause the momma dog's growth to slow down or even stop completely, as her body puts all of its energies in to the development of puppies. Sasha will continue to fill in with a healthy diet, but she's not likely to get any taller, or any larger in terms of her frame. In their first home, Sasha was living with chickens, ducks, geese, a couple of goats, and a few assorted other animals so has had a wide variety of exposure to different animals. Plus of course dogs, and a couple of barn cats. At Windsong Ranch, Sasha is currently living in a pasture with Nigerian Dwarf goats and a few other livestock guardian dogs. She gets along with the other LGDs, both male and female. Sasha can climb our 5' tall pasture fence, and she goes over the fence every day to have supper with her pups, who live in an adjacent yard and are given supervised time in the pasture. Thankfully, she doesn't climb the fence to try to leave our property, but still, she has the capability, so very secure fencing will be required. Sasha is very sweet with people, but she was never taught how to walk on a leash, so we are trying to help her overcome her fear of/resistance to the leash. But we don't have enough time to devote to this effort, so we aren't yet making much progress. She will definitely need work to learn how to walk nicely on a leash. If you have a small homestead, or perhaps a backyard flock of chickens, Sasha might be exactly the dog you need. If so, please complete the application on our website.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 13, 2024, 2:35 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.SugarPlum is one of the Nutcracker Suite puppies and is a solid whitish/biscuit color like her Komondor dad, but has a smooth coat like her mom Sasha, an Anatolian Shepherd. In their first home, these puppies were living with chickens, ducks, geese, a couple of goats, dogs, barn cats, and a few assorted other animals so they have had a great diversity of exposure. SugarPlum weighed 38 lbs at 4 months old and is growing at a healthy pace. She will be spayed in April in accordance with Texas law, and we'll get an updated weight then. Right now, she's growing at a pace that makes us believe she could easily weigh 80-85 lbs at adulthood. Her mom is currently about 75-80 lbs and dad is over 100 lbs. SugarPlum is playful with other pups, but settles quickly when she has the opportunity to get attention/petting from a human. In the barn, SugarPlum and her sister Clara are quick to sit or lie down close to me so they can get the most attention -- and treats! Apply on our website to make SugarPlum part of your family!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 13, 2024, 2:35 pm
