He doesn't need a fenced yard, but he would benefit from being able to exercise every day. Likes: Cash loves all treats, playing with toys, and chewing his bones. He likes to cuddle on the couch! Cash likes being near his humans and can be called a "velcro dog" because he will stick with you no matter where you go in your house! Playing with other dogs is super fun for Cash too! Dislikes: Cash doesn't like being away from his humans, but he understands he needs to be in a crate sometimes. He prefers that the crate be at your bedside at night, or at least somewhere he can see his people. Cash can be shy at first and needs time to warm up to some men. Cash is a herding breed, so he likes to make sure everyone is safe and nearby. It is adorable! If you go in a room where he's not allowed, you will find Cash waiting patiently just outside the door! What a good little man! Cash's adoption fee is $350. All fees include spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations, worming, flea and heartworm current. All dogs over 6 months of age have been tested and are heartworm negative. If you are interested in adopting, apply at rescuedohio.org to become an approved adopter and a meet & greet can be set up once approved. ##2319346##

Story
We really outdid ourselves with originality in naming Cattle Dog, or “Cattle D” for not much shorter. Cattle Dog has all the energy and big personality you would expect from a Cattle Dog—he will patrol your yard to protect it from both squirrels and ghosts, but when not under attack from these nefarious villains, he loves to play with his friends and loves giving kisses and hugs and getting attention from his people. He’s a fantastic dog and just the best boy. A physically fenced yard is required. Cattle Dog is available for adoption in Ohio to residents of Ohio. Story
Silky soft, snuggly, and eager to please all the people he meets. Oakley is willing to trust new people, show his belly, give kisses. Knows 'sit,' 'lie down,' and getting acquainted with 'stay,' 'leave it,' and 'get down. Very interested in other dogs, but willing to be instructed to 'leave it' and carry on walking when we passed yards or houses with barking dogs. Fairly good on a leash. Very energetic, will be a good companion for someone athletic. But also Willing to hang out quietly while I you work on the computer or watched TV; even willing to ignore the nearby cats most of time. Curious about them but not wanting to interact with them. Before considering him as a pet do research on the breed. He is a herding dog and will try to steer you where he thinks you need to go. This will include nipping at your heels and hands if they are by your side. He will be good with older kids that understand his behavior. He is in a foster home so if you are interested in adoptiong me, please fill out an online adoption application at https://colonycats.org/adoption_app.html to expedite the process. Due to the large number of inquiries we receive, we are unable to respond to emails quickly. November 6, 2024, 3:21 pm

Story
DobbieMaleAge: 2.5 YearsWeight: 55 lbsBreed: Australian Cattle Dog, Australian Shepherd MixGood With: Dogs, Cats, Kids Hi, I’m Dobbie! I am an energetic, cuddly and curious boy, who gets along great with other dogs and cats! I also love kids, but I am quite excitable so would do best in a home without young kids. I am house trained and crate trained – although I do well when left out of my crate too! I love learning new things, have completed several training programs, and have mastered all the basics like walking on a leash, basic commands (sit, stay, down, come, wait, okay, no) and can even “place” on command. I would love an adopter who can continue learning and growing with me and challenging me to be my best self. Being a young Cattle Dog mix, I will need an active adopter who is ideally experienced with herding or working breeds. I would also love a fenced in back yard for games of fetch although this is not required. In my free time I love to PLAY, be outdoors, cuddle, and be as close to my humans and fur siblings as physically possible. I also REALLY love to give kisses and I’ve never tasted a treat I don’t like! I can’t wait to have an adopter all my own who will provide me all the love and the active lifestyle I deserve! If you are interested in meeting Dobbie, apply to adopt at: www.causeforcanines.org Adoption fee: $350. Must be an Ohio resident and 23 or older. Children must be 10 years old or older. ##1385204##

Story
Walter is a 4-year-old Heeler/Border Collie mix with a big heart and even bigger energy. I’ve had him since he was a puppy, and he’s been a loyal companion every step of the way. As a high-energy working breed, Walter thrives when he has room to run and a job to do. He’s smart, eager, and would do best in a home with plenty of space—ideally a property where he can burn off energy and feel like he’s part of the action. Walter has had some tension with our other Heeler over the years, and unfortunately, their conflicts have recently escalated. After consulting with our vet, we’ve made the difficult decision to rehome Walter for the well-being of both dogs. It’s important to note that Walter has not been the aggressor in these situations, but he would be happiest and safest as the only dog in the home. He is neutered, fully up to date on his vaccinations, and on regular flea and parasite prevention (Simparico). Walter truly is a great dog who just needs the right environment to thrive.

Story
Meet George McFly, a sweet and sensitive Cattle Dog who’s looking for a quiet, loving home where he can truly blossom. George has had a tough start in life, coming from a puppy mill where he didn’t get the chance to experience the world the way most dogs do. But despite his rocky past, George is a gentle soul with so much love to give—he just needs the right people to help him feel safe and secure. At first, George can be a little nervous and unsure. He’s selective about the people he trusts, but once he makes that connection, he’ll show you just how deep his affection runs. When George feels comfortable, he’s a big-time wiggler—his tail starts to wag, his body starts to wiggle, and you’ll see the real George emerge, full of love and joy. He’ll happily shower you with gentle hugs and all the doggy kisses you could ever dream of- It’s his way of saying, "You’re my person, and I trust you." Because of his past, George does best in a home where he can take things at his own pace. He’s not comfortable around kids, so a quiet, adult-only home would be ideal for him. However, George thrives when he has a confident dog companion to help show him the ropes. He didn’t get the chance to learn how to be a dog in his previous life, so he looks to his fellow canines for guidance, learning important things like play, socialization, and trust. If you already have another dog who can be his mentor, George will feel much more confident as he continues to grow and learn. George has already been neutered and is fully available for adoption, ready to start the next chapter of his life with the right family. He may need some patience and understanding, but with the right home and a kind, experienced dog sibling to guide him, George will thrive and become the loyal, loving companion you’ve been waiting for. If you think you might be the one to help George find his place in the world, he’s waiting for you with his wiggly tail and plenty of sweet kisses to give.

Adopting a Australian Cattle Dog

Frequently asked questions about acquiring an Australian Cattle Dog - the pros and cons of adopting versus going through a breeder, and associated costs.

The cost to adopt an Australian Cattle Dog puppy is around $300, which helps the rescue or shelter cover the expenses of caring for the dog before adoption. In contrast, buying Australian Cattle Dogs from breeders can be prohibitively expensive. Depending on their breeding, they usually cost anywhere from $500 to $1,500, and show-quality or champion bloodline puppies can be priced higher.

The easiest way to adopt an Australian Cattle Dog is through a rescue that specializes in the breed. A great avenue to begin looking is starting a breed search on Adopt a Pet. The search will show you all the available Australian Cattle Dogs in your area.

Australian Cattle Dog fun facts

Fun Facts:

Australian Cattle Dogs are sometimes still referred to as Blue Heelers or Queensland Heelers.

By the end of World War II, the breed was nearly decimated in its native Belgium, but luckily dedicated dog-lovers revitalized the breed.

In French, "griffon" means "wire-haired," which is an indication of what this breed's coat looks like.
