Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, March 8th from 12-3pm or until adopted. If you would like the first opportunity to adopt, please fill out an application to be considered.   Adoption Fee: $650 *Rocky Road is an option for Foster-to-Adopt!* Rocky Road is the perfect mix of sweet, nutty, and full of surprises—just like his namesake! This 6 year old, 16 pound Mini Aussie-Spaniel mix is packed with personality. He’s got the energy of a double scoop, the devotion of your favorite comfort treat, and just the right amount of crunch (especially when he gets excited for treats!). Whether he’s zooming around the house or melting into you for back scritches, Rocky Road is guaranteed to add a little flavor to your life. Much like a heaping bowl of his namesake, Rocky Road came with a few extra toppings when he first arrived—like a tendency to jump on tables in search of snacks! Now that he’s settled in, he’s showing his softer side. He’s a certified Velcro dog, always sticking close to his foster dad, and loves rolling against you for extra love. While he still wears a belly band indoors as he masters house training, he’s completely crate-trained and often tucks himself in for a cozy nap in his crate with the door open. Rocky Road enjoys a daily routine filled with adventure. He starts his mornings with a walk at 6:30 am, followed by breakfast, and then naps while his humans are at work. Afternoons and evenings bring more walks, lounging in the office, and hanging out with the family. On weekends, he enjoys spending all day with his people, making sure they never have a moment without a little extra sweetness in their lives. He loves toys, will happily toss them for himself, and gets a kick out of barking at other dogs during walks—he’s still learning that not every pup wants to be part of his sundae squad! The ideal home for Rocky Road? One where his people are around often and ready to take him on plenty of adventures—hiking, walking, or maybe even camping under the stars. A yard would be a great bonus for this energetic pup, and older kids would be best since he gets extra excited for treats (watch your fingers—placing them on the ground is the safest way to serve this little guy his snacks!). If you're looking for a dog with a heart full of love, a spirit full of fun, and just the right amount of crunch, Rocky Road is ready to be the sweetest addition to your home!March 15, 2025, 8:58 pm

Story
Meet Bear, the six year old Aussie mix! Despite being a senior in age (6 years or older) Bear still has plenty of spirit and energy that is common to the Australian Shepherd breed – loves playing fetch and running. Bear has experience living successfully with an 8 year old child and has even given kisses to staff members when interacting at the Shelter. Typical to his breed – Bear is looking for above average mental and physical stimulation from his guardian to aid in him settling during down time. He would enjoy being with his people more often than not. From March 10th to March 17th, this dog’s adoption fee is reduced to $50 during the Get Lucky Adoption Special. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Meet Ziga, the neutered male Australian Shepherd. Ziga came to the Shelter as a stray so we do not know much about his life before the Shelter. Staff describe him as a handsome yet mischievous neutered male. He loves to be outdoors and happily engage with people. He has met a variety of dogs at the Shelter and has quickly initiated play. He will sometimes engage in herding breed behaviors (not a total shocker since he is well, a herding breed) so breed savvy adopters are recommended. Bonded with his guardian through force free/R+ paired with appropriate mental and physical stimulation will help set Ziga up for success. Patience as Ziga learns life skills and manners (house training, leash walking, etc) will be needed by his new guardians. If you are looking for an active pup to join you on life’s adventures – come meet Ziga today! Now through February 15th, we are hosting “Adopt Your Valentine” where adoption fees are reduced to $50. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, spay/neuter and microchips. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Story
Meet Fern, the aussie! Fern came to the Shelter as a stray with her “friend” Frisbee (a male terrier mix). Staff have observed that she is quiet in the kennel but is perking up with daily interactions with staff and other dogs. Fern is still perfecting life skills and manners such as leash walking and house training. Adopters should be patient in the transition and use force free / +R training to bond with her and help her learn. Staff have commented how sweet Fern is and noted that she enjoys playing fetch with a tennis ball. We do not have any history of Fern with children or cats.
