Story
Meet Stella - 65lbs. - Stella was purchased from someone on social media. She is extremely nervous & under-socialized. She was likely only with that person her entire life. The volunteers at the shelter have been working with her but she would do best in a home around calmer people regularly. We keep her on a leash at all times. So far she has not willingly let us touch her & barks if we try. She is potty trained & walks well on her leash. She seems interested in squeaky toys & also interested in people. She is definitely a little overweight & could use small walks to help her lose a little weight. She’s absolutely gorgeous & we just know she is going to come along. She does well with calm, confident doggos. Help us find her a foster family. We don’t think she will do well with cats or small dogs. ID# 57480450- Apply to foster or adopt. Call to schedule an appointment to meet her. - Find all our pets currently available on kokomohumane.org

Story
Max just turned 1 year old. He is an absolute sweetheart and so smart. Unfortunately, our home is very active; we have 3 kids, 3 outdoor cats, and live on a larger property. We have a lot of family and friends and kids coming in and out of door and Max does not do well with this. He continues to nip at our kids and is very overwhelmed and overstimulated easily. He has bitten our kids, usually while playing. He also nipped at one of children’s friends at a park when he was leashed. He was not provoked. We want the best for Max. We just do not believe we are the best home for him. He would do well in a quieter home, around adults who’d could take him for a lot of walks!

Story
Harper’s Compatibility:Dogs - Meet & GreetCats - UnknownKids - Best suited for a home with kids 16+Some dogs are just different in the best way possible—and that’s Harper. At 7 years old, she’s smart, independent, and full of personality. She’s not the type of dog who’s going to follow you around all day, but she’ll always be there when it counts—curled up next to you on the couch, watching over the house like it’s her personal kingdom, or waiting expectantly for a snack (because let’s be honest, food is her love language).Harper is brilliant. She picks up on emotions, senses bad days, and loves having a job to do. She thrives on routine, structure, and training—she’s one of those dogs who enjoys learning just as much as she enjoys lounging. She can be a little picky about her social circle, preferring slow introductions and respectful interactions, but once you’re in, you’re in.She’s housebroken, crate-trained, and fiercely loyal to her people. She appreciates a calm, predictable home where she can be her best self without too much chaos. She’s affectionate but likes to do things on her own terms—think of her like a dog with a cat’s soul.Harper isn’t looking for just any home—she’s looking for the right fit. One that appreciates her brilliant mind, her independent streak, and her unwavering devotion. If you’re ready for a true companion with a personality all her own, Harper is waiting to meet you!-----Adoption Fees & Benefits:Under 1 year: $2001-4 years: $1005-9 years: $5510+ years: $35Fees include: Heartworm test (age appropriate), vaccinations, flea/tick preventative, complimentary bag of food, wellness exam, and rabies vaccine.Important Notice: A `meet and greet` with any existing dogs in your home is required, supervised by our team in our play areas.
