Story
Alofo is a 6 year old miniature Aussie. He is in a foster home. This is what the foster had to say: Al is friendly with other dogs. Once settled in he likes his bath. Needs brushed a few times a week with his beautiful long hair. Doesn't mind grooming with clippers. Has not been to groomer but has no problem with foster mom and dad grooming him. He prefers to lay in his bed during the day. Plays with toys and his dog sister sometimes too. Starting to warm up to his people and will approach and take food/treats from their hand. Fast movements by people scare him and he sometimes barks when people enter the house. The barking may be due in part to his dog sister. During the day he goes out side to potty. Sometimes likes to mark new territory that is placed in his environment. No kennel accidents. Has used pee pad at night at times. He prefers to sleep in kennel at night with door closed though. Kennel is put up during the day so he lays in bed on floor. Does not get on furniture unless human puts him on chair or couch. Will set with humans on couch and relax. I always talk to him and approach him slowly before picking him up. Have no problem picking him up. He lets me love on him. Has done very well at his vet visits. Likes to eat food in kennel during the night. His sister is somewhat intrusive and gets in his kennel and eats his food. He lets her. He does not like the leash, refuses to walk on leash and try's to get away from it. He will follow you wherever you go outside or if you call him without the leash. Initially was Houdini and would remove his collar in seconds. Now leaves collar on and doesn't try to remove it. He makes sure everyone is ready to go back in before he goes into the house. He herds his people and dog sister back into the house after each trip outside and patiently waits if he is done but others are not ready. Alofo has been neutered and is current on microchips. He is heartworm negative. He has been microchipped. Alofo's adoption fee is $325.00. If you are a preapproved adopter and interested, email secondchancedogrescueofiowa@gmail.com to let us know. If you are not preapproved, you will need to complete an adoption application at http://www.secondchancedogrescueofiowa.com Thank you!

Story
Blazer was left in our care as his previous owners could not care for him due to living situation. Unfortunately they did not return for him. He's grown on us over the 9 months we've had him. We think he's about a year and a half old. We've discussed keeping him, but ultimately he was never ours to begin with. He's kennel trained and never has accidents. Hoping someone with a large area of land would take him in as I feel he'd love the freedom. He's a very sweet and loving boy and not extremely hyper. Also gets along with children and other dogs as far as we've seen. I hope he finds a family that will love him unconditionally and give him the attention he deserves.

Story
Karl is an adorable dog. Karl has a tumor on his right back leg. He doesn’t use that leg. Karl loves car rides and walks. If he knows you go on a car ride without him, he will pout and give you the cold shoulder when you return home. He is full of personality! He likes being in the middle of everything. He wants to be friends with every animal he meets. But he will also back away if his friendship is not wanted. Karl would not do well in an apartment. He loves to be let outside often. He loves laying in the sun on the deck or yard. He loves being right by your side and having lots of petting and cuddling. He is a countertop surfer, and he will eat anything he can reach. Karl is easy to train. He follows commands: sit, stay, lay down. He likes almost any treat. Karl likes to wrestle and play with other dogs, always playfully. He is a fantastic family dog!

Story
We rescued Hazel 6.5 years ago. She wandered onto our property in the middle of winter - starving and dirty. We found her owner and he agreed to let us keep her as he had too many dogs to care for (he says she ran away due to hunger). She has been very sweet with us, but always very territorial. We think her prior owner abused and neglected her and she has never been properly socialized due to her aggression with others. She’s playful, LOVES playing fetch and always wants to be near us. We now have a 3 year old child and another on the way. She has recently started “nipping” at my husband and lunging at our toddler. Hazel needs a home where there are no kids, no other pets, space to run and play ball, and owners who can happily keep her away from other animals. She will be loyal forever, but her recent aggression is making our home life unsafe. She is kennel trained and completely house trained.

Story
Hi, I'm Khaos! I'm an Australian Cattle Dog/Australian Shepherd puppy with a zest for life! My days are filled with boundless energy, chasing my tail, and making everyone around me giggle. I can be a wild child, always ready for the next adventure. But, I'm also a sweetheart, my affectionate nature is contagious. I love to give kisses and snuggle up close. I'm looking for a forever home where I can share my love and playfulness. If you're ready for a life filled with joy, laughter, and unconditional love, then I'm your girl. Adopt me and let's create beautiful memories together. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas twice a month. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veteinarian ($35). Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! ##2087743##
