Story
Oakley was recently returned to us after being rehomed. Based on their experience with him, he is a great companion but would thrive more in a home with a single individual with no kids or other animals at their home. If you do have visitors, he would just need to be isolated from them. Once Oakley picks you as his “person”, he becomes territorial. We have a toddler and do not feel comfortable with Oakley being around him. Our other dog and Oakley tolerate each other indoors but outdoors they have attacked one another on numerous occasions. Other than that, he is great when getting groomed and he has received great reviews from local Doggie Day Cares. No biting or dog fighting with either. He loves playing fetch, cuddling, and running through the yard. He is also house and kennel trained.

HELP! Relocating due to my health and injuries, Please save Sugar & Plum! They deserve a loving home, not a shelter. Deadline January 31st 💔 Sugar and Plum are 2-year-old, 65 lb pups with so much love to give. Ideally, they’d stay together, but we understand if you can only take one. 🐾 Adorable: Chunky, quirky, and full of love! 🐾 Smart & treat-motivated: They know sit, paw, and lay down. 🐾 House-trained: No accidents – ever! 🐾 Kid-friendly & social: Excited for visitors and love kids. 🐾 Nighttime routine: Potty, kisses, then crate for treats and sleep. Sugar: Quirky and loves to lay at your feet. Plum: A lap-dog who minds well and stays close. They love chasing bubbles, need more exercise, and some leash training. Having only known one home, they’ll need patience and love to adjust. 🌟 Will transport anywhere in Texas! or anywhere on my way to California Don’t let them end up in a shelter—time is running out! If you can help, even with just one, please reach out ASAP! 🙏❤️

Story
Kale is a very sweet and intelligent Aussie mutt. She is a bit big and excitable to be around kids but I do think with training she could adapt very well. She does not like dogs that she does not know. She LOVES people, all of them. She has minor food aggression and eats separately from Lemon, but is very trainable and otherwise docile. She is so very sweet and loves fetch and squeaky toys the most. She likes to sleep in her own space and will whine if she does not have blankets, like a little princess. Cookies are her favorite thing. Kale is more of a homebody than her sister and can become nervous outside of home. Kale and lemon are not to be separated under any circumstances!

Story
Daisy came to my house as a puppy very sick. Shelters closed doors to her so I gave her a chance to get her healed so I can look for a home for her. She’s 2 year 10 months old now. I’m not doing good with my health at this moment I just lost my baby and she needs lots of attention and care. She’s very playful, loves kids and other dogs but my dogs don’t like her because she plays rough. I really want her to go to a good home with people with a good heart full of compassion for her. She’s a very smart dog, potty trained outside, kneel trained, she’s an inside dog, she loves play time outside but not for too long. She doesn’t like to share her treats with other dogs so I have to give her her treats separately. She won’t kill a bug she will let you know about the smallest ant by growling at the bug but will jump of scared if she gets closer to it. She’s fun to have around she will make you laugh with her goofy self.

Story
Avery is a fun, intelligent, loving, energetic dog! Just about everyone falls in love with him as soon as they meet him. For his new home he needs a household that’s active, has a yard, and someone who loves dogs. Avery loves to cuddle and loves his attention but in the best way! He knows how to sit, come, wait, and down. He’s potty trained and crate trained which is always a plus! He barks for attention or when he needs to use the bathroom. I’m heartbroken I have to give this little one up because he means the world to me but he deserves to go to the right family or person. Avery is the best dog I've had and I need someone who is kind to take care of him. He does not get whooped, only put in timeout.

Coco was rescued by me and my wife as a puppy we gave her the best home that we can give her for a year and 8months. and became mostly an outside dog just her and a senior chihuahua in the back of the house and got along very well. No sign of aggression was seen, just some competition here and there some digging but very very playful.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If you are looking for a fun loving girl look no further. You have found her!!!  Abbie is part Border Collie and Part just plain adorable.   She is shy at first but once she warms up is a lover.    Abbie has terrific focus and  will learn very quickly.   She will be a loving companion to anyone needing a cuddle bud.   =========== Please contact  app@aarfhouston.org for more information about this dog. You can apply online by clicking on Application . ADOPTION FEE:  The adoption fee includes vaccinations, bordetella, deworming, rabies, Microchip including a lifetime registration and spay/neuter.   PUPPIES   Texas State law requires that we sterilize any animal adopted through this agency.     This will normally occur between 5 and 6 months at one of our approved veterinarians at the expense of the rescue. Children under 8 years old  often are not a good match for our puppies and dogs.   In order to protect both, your child and our rescued dogs/puppies from harm, we seldom if ever adopt to families with young children. Approval:  You will be notified via email once your application is approved.  Once notified, we will schedule a meet and greet at one of our approved locations.   Thank you for considering a rescue! The adoption fee includes vaccinations, Bordetella, de-worming, rabies, spay/neuter and microchip. There is a an additional $12.99 fee for Home Again for a lifetime registration of the microchip. Puppies cannot be adopted outside of the Houston area until they are spay/neutered after they are 4 months old. It is against the law in the State of Texas for a rescue not to be sterilized so we have to make sure it gets completed and that we have record of it. NOTE: In our bios, we provide information based on our volunteer's experience with a particular dog; such as temperament, training, and ability to get along with others. AARF is a 501(c)3 Non Profit, all breed, no kill organization. Our group is always in need of donations in order to continue to give the needed medical care to our rescues. Adoption fees do not begin to cover all of the medical costs. Any donation , no matter how small is a big help and is greatly appreciated. Please help us to continue to help them. Thank you. Story
Rachel - Border Collie/Lab mix - Female - 4.5 yrs - www.twyla.org If you'd like to know more about this dog please visit our website at www.Twyla.org Meet Rachel: this gorgeous 4.5-year-old Border Collie Lab has returned to us as her needs and her families availability simply grew apart, like it happens sometimes. Rather than fitting a square peg into a round hole, it was determined that Rachel would be happier in a home that can more closely fit her needs. Rachel likes to have something to do, either playing with a toy or one of her dog friends or going for a walk. She seems to have a permanent smile on her face, and loves attention. She can be a little sneaky and will find unsecured garbage cans and unattended food - as she is very smart. She fine with relaxing with her pack after some playtime. Rachel is fine with most other dogs - she can be a little slow on picking up subtle social cues form other dogs ("I don't want to play right now" - "OK, how about now" 5 seconds later...) so tolerant dogs are the easiest fit, and while she is pretty easily corrected and redirect, you may have to repeat yourself a few times for her to believe you. She does want to please her humans and loves to cuddle. Rachel does not like to be left alone, and is looking for a home where someone is home a lot and can devote time and energy to her exercise, training and give her the attention and affection she craves. Some dogs handle changes easily, Rachel is not one of them, so an experienced and patience handler is preferred. Rachel would do best in a home with another dog or more than one, she loves kids, is house trained, but does not like to be alone and is not a fan of the crate. She can be crated and is currently crated, albeit in a rather high security crate. She is highly food motivated, which is great for training, is fine in the car, her leash training could use some fine tuning, but she is making great progress and has attended numerous group classes with her trainer with great success. ***Please note: All dogs are fostered in private homes of volunteers, so to meet a dog please fill out an Adoption Application so we may setup a private meetup with the dog or coordinate for an Introduction at the next general Adoption Meet and Greet, as not all dogs come to all Meet and Greets***
