Story
Kadabra is a 2.5 year old Springer Spaniel and Pitbull mix. She also has some German Shepherd and Lab as well. She was adopted through 4 Luv of Dog out of Fargo, ND. She’s a super sweet girl who loves everyone and everything. I got her when she was just a puppy, and I started taking her to daycare as soon as I could for early socialization. Because of this, she gets along with pretty much all dogs she interacts with (there will always be outliers, of course). Kadabra has also grown up with two cats, although one of them doesn’t get along her with. As long as the cats are respectful of her boundaries, she’s fine. For a new home for Kadabra, I’d want to ensure she’s going to get the love and attention she deserves. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I’m unable to provide her with this, which I don’t think is fair to her. She would love a yard to run around in, and preferably another dog to play with. Thank you for considering Kadabra for adoption.

Story
Meet Cora! Cora is a young Rottweiler mix that was heavily pregnant when she arrived at No Dogs Left Behind. She had six adorable puppies that are now finding families of their own.  Raising puppies is a lot of work so momma Cora is enjoying her new-found freedom and ready to find her people!  Cora is a high-energy dog that loves to be around her humans. When she gets excited, Cora still has a tendency to jump initially but has learned that lying down makes her foster parents happy. When she is calm, Cora enjoys laying next to (or on) her human. She is affectionate and likes to be pet and brushed. Cora loves playing tug or chasing after the ball with the resident dog. She walks well on the leash but does get excited and pulls if she passes another dog. Cora has started visiting outdoor patios and likes to supervise the nearby people and dogs.  Cora enjoys running around in her fenced yard and would love a home that has the time to meet her exercise needs. Outside, Cora thinks she is a guard dog. She no longer reacts to passing people or bikes but still barks at passing dogs.  Cora is interested in birds and squirrels and has fun chasing them out of the yard, protecting her foster family’s garden. Given her prey drive, we expect that Cora would chase cats and would likely not be a good fit for a home with other small animals.   Cora sleeps in the kennel at night and when her foster family is at work. She happily runs into the kennel for meals or a tasty treat. In the kennel, she is quiet and can often be seen lying on her back with her feet sticking straight up in the air. Cora loves to have a durable chew toy in the kennel.  Cora has had no accidents in her foster home and goes outside on a schedule. She is able to sleep through the night without issue. Foster dad lets her outside over lunch to potty and burn off a little energy. Then she returns to the kennel to nap or chew on a bone.  Cora is very smart and has picked up on training quickly. This girl loves to work and would be a good fit for someone that wants to get into canine sports!   Cora is working hard on her impulse control and would benefit from continued training. We think a family without a young kid would be best given her size and jumping for attention. Cora has done well with other dogs and wouldn’t mind a playful canine companion but wouldn’t complain about getting all the attention as an only-dog either. This young momma deserves a loving home to call her own and is excited to meet you!   Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $525.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 18, 2024, 11:35 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* My name is Daisy and I am a senior girl who is two parts sweet, one part sassy. I'm very easy-going most of the time, but once I want some pets or think I might get to go for a walk, I can get a little bossy and bark or paw at my foster mom. I love being outside and soaking up the sun, but walks are my favorite. I get along well with the other dogs in my home, and pretty much just ignore the cat. I enjoy getting pets on the head and ears, but I'm not too sure about the whole cuddling thing yet. My favorite place to sleep is on the dog bed in the bedroom by the humans. I haven't met any kids yet, but I'm very gentle so I think I would be okay with respectful & dog-savvy kiddos!   Something really important to know about me is that I have something called hyperparathyroidism. What this means is that a tumor in my parathyroid gland produces excessive levels of parathyroid hormone, leading to increased blood calcium levels, which will become toxic to my kidneys. I'm on some meds to help with this, but because I'm an older gal, the vet thinks that it won't be too long before symptoms start to get worse, and he can't be sure what my life expectancy looks like.    But, my foster mom says quality is more important than quantity, and she says that I am a quality dog that has so much love left to give! And honestly, who couldn't love a beautiful girl like me? My ideal home would be patient, loving, and on the calmer side who is willing to work with my condition. If that sounds like you, let's go for a walk and get to know each other, I'd love to meet you!   Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and rec ommendations to keep your senior dog in top shape. Daisy is from a local impound.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can   donate   to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.     Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 19, 2024, 8:45 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hello, my name is Gussie but foster mom lovingly calls me Sadie! I’m a quiet and very beautiful adult female Cocker Spaniel who is still learning about toys, but I enjoy exploring the yard and will usually return with dirt in my nose! Hee, hee!! That said, I love nothing more than to eat, snuggle, sleep…repeat and my favorite sleep spot is either foster mom’s chest or in bed with her…I’m just sayin’!! I don’t mind baths, being brushed, or getting my ears cleaned but I don’t like getting my nails done; new people make me nervous; and loud or sudden noises scare me. In fact, I tend to pace/circle and tremble a lot, so I take daily anxiety medication (with peanut butter…YUUUMMM). This means however, that kids are not a good fit for me unless they are older and respectful of my space. I have not met any cats and I pretty much ignore the chickens here, but I am good with other dogs (I don’t even mind when they try to finish my food (Hee, hee). Anyway, I need a doggie companion at my new home (prefers females) and a fenced yard where we can frolic. I’m a smart girl who knows what “sit” means; I’m good with the crate and leash; and I am, for the most part, potty trained. However, although I try my hardest not to, I do admit that I may have an occasional accident in the house because sometimes my anxiety gets the best of me. My dream fur-ever home is a calm and quiet one with YOU…a patient, unconditionally loving fur-ever family that will NEVER give up on me. I promise not only am I totally worth it, but I will make your world a much happier one if you will simply welcome me into it! Love & snuggles, Gussie *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared.  Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption.  This will be at the adopters expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses .  Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue.  S ome of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.      Hello, I’m Lucy, and I’m a girl of VERY few words so I’m going to get straight to the point. I’m an incredibly sweet, quiet, and laid-back female Cocker Spaniel. I am blind but make no mistake…I still love my life! If you are looking for a loving companion who simply wants to take it easy and enjoy life with you, I’m your girl!  I have met chickens and cats and am completely fine with both.  Given my lack of vision, a fenced yard is easiest but as long as you go out with me, one is not needed.  Leashes and I have a complicated relationship! Not to be braggy, but I am quite smart.  Even though I am blind, I can actually do stairs on my own. Ok, full disclosure only a few and only with supervision.  I am working on getting my weight down and my allergies under control. I am on a raw or fresh prepared/cooked  diet and it is helping me look and feel my best! I was quite overweight at 38 pounds so I have a long way to go and will definitely need an adopter who will be my life coach! So far I have lost 8:pounds and my goal weight is 26 pounds.  I truly am an angel who would love nothing more than to find my fur-ever home with YOU…a very patient, unconditionally loving family that will NEVER give up on me. I have an enormous heart that’s brimming with love to share, and I promise I will shower you with ALL of it if you would simply welcome me into your world! Love, Lucy   Postscript from my foster mom: Lucy is simply amazing. She will make whomever adopts her just marvel at her.  She has a heart of gold and would never hurt anyone or anything.  I think she would be fine with gentle kids.  She is totally housebroken, wonderful in the car, as easy to care for as ever a dog could be! She would make a fabulous therapy dog to visit nursing homes and hospitals.  Her temperament could simply not be better. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared.  Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption.  This will be at the adopters expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Want to meet me? Come to the Canines for Clean Water event in Powderhorn Park near the Community Center (3421 S 15th Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55407-2234) for an Adoption Event - Thursday, Aug. 22nd from 6:30-7:30 pm. Stay for the Movie in the Park at dusk: Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Please email inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com for questions regarding the dogs.   Hi there, I'm Nancy! Despite being both deaf and blind, I'm a spirited little Cocker Spaniel puppy who's ready to take on the world! Nothing holds me back from exploring and having adventures. I may not be able to hear or see like other pups, but that doesn't stop me from loving life to the fullest. At home, I'm a bundle of energy and joy. I'm always ready to play, play, play! Whether it's tearing up cardboard, chewing on bones, or romping around with my canine companions, I'm happiest when I'm on the move. But don't worry, I also know how to snuggle up and enjoy a good nap when it's time to rest. I'm great with kids and other dogs, big or small. I love making new friends and spreading joy wherever I go. And while I'm still working on my potty training and crate training, I'm making progress every day. I do have some special needs due to my disabilities. I need daily eye cleanings and frequent ear washes to keep me comfortable and healthy. And because I can't see or hear very well, I need a bit of extra supervision to ensure I stay safe, especially when exploring outdoors.  I have what is called "micro eyes" in that my eye ball is very small and my eye lids are then too big for them.  My eye lids fold in and require daily cleanings.  If those cleanings don't seem to be doing the job down the road, I may need surgery to remove my eye balls and/or close my eye lids. We are hopeful that with daily cleanings we can avoid that.  I also came to Underdog with an ear infection, so might need some extra attention to ear cleanings, too. But don't let my disabilities fool you—I'm a brave and independent pup who's eager to experience all that life has to offer. With a loving and patient family by my side, I know I can overcome any obstacle and thrive in a consistent and supportive environment. So if you're looking for a unique and lovable companion who's full of spirit and determination, look no further than me, Nancy! *I’m a growing puppy and I have not yet had a lot of experience with crates, kids or cats and I might bark if something alarms me, but I really love to learn and hoping for a family who will take me to a basic obedience class to continue to help me build confidence and dog skills. Ideally my forever home would need to be home during the day to help me with my potty training and not leave me for breaks longer than 3 - 4 hours. If you are looking for a best friend, please fill out the puppy application. The more info you include on the application the better so I can find a good match for my forever home. Get your toy box ready! **Obedience classes are required when adopting this puppy from Underdog Rescue. Many of our puppies have a mama who was not properly socialized before coming to Underdog Rescue. Since coming to Underdog, this puppy has been in a socialized and loving home, but that needs to be continued with its Adopters. Training classes teach puppies the ins and outs of being a pet while creating a bond with their new Adopter. Obedience classes are key to creating a relationship with your puppy while having it be a happy and successful member of society. Proof of Obedience Class registration is required for this puppy before adoptions can be finalized. If you would like some suggestions, we would be happy to send some trainers who have experience with Underdog Rescue, but a Basic Obedience class in your area should work! This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. This fee must be paid within 24 hours or your application will be considered void.  We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion.   Puppy Applications will be responded to within 5 business days, after receipt of the application fee.  Please understand that paying the fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the puppy. Our goal is place puppies in homes that are suited for their individual needs. You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the puppy, we will not approve your application. We accept applications for puppies until we have a candidate that meets all of the requirements needed for the specific puppy and they have been contacted to review the adoption process as well as agree to all of the terms to move forward. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up.
